RE: 8,500 lbs plus dry weight

If you want to play then you got to bring the toys to the party that can handle it. I went from a Hybrid to the unit in my signature. Also went from a Ford E250 Conversion Van to a Ford F350 so I could tow the new beast safely. I have seen 1/2 ton trucks pullling them all the time just not something I would feel comfortable doing. I am sure the weight police will be along shortly so grab a soda and Popcorn and get ready for the show!!;)

RE: T.T. tounge jack

The Barker VIP 3500 electric tongue jack was the Power Jack we bought. We bought ours online at AdventureRV.net. I installed it at the campstie in about 25 minutes. Totally worth the price of admission.

RE: Grills that hang on the side wall of the trailer

I used one on my Hybrid and never had any problems. It was my main grill cooked steak, Burgers, Dogs and chicken on it every trip never noticed the side of the camper getting hot and no discoloration what so ever on my Camper come to think of it never remember have to wipe splatter off the side of the camper unless the DW did and I just did not notice!! Use and enjoy it they wouldn't put it on the RV if it was going to be a hazard to the RV.

RE: Allegheny tunnel

The Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel on 64 you have to stop and have your propane checked also and demonstrate to the inspector that it is off.

RE: gray tank

Just remember everyone was a rookie at one time.....I believe you probably have 2 gray water tanks and a Black water tank. Same set up as I have. Sure you will get it figured out for sure as soon as you get it on to a site and start playing....Been out 3 times with our newest RV and even though this is my 4th RV I am still learning !!

RE: Good and Bad about Blue Ox Sway Pro

Hi Rescue Maybe can help. I looked up your camper. http://www.keystonerv.com/cougar-xlite/ Nice camper, congrats. That 34' 7" long camper starts out at 7,401# dry with a 750# dry tongue weight. That comes out to be 750/7401= 0.101 or X100 = 10.1% dry tongue weight. That is a very light tongue weight for a camper of that length. That means when you load it, you would really want to get it more in the 13% to 15% range. Since you have 1,599# of cargo capacity, if you added 1,200# of stuff, (not hard to do in 35 feet) this could put you up at 8,601# loaded GVW. At 13% loaded tongue that is 1,118# and at 15% that is 1,290# loaded tongue weight. Tell us what "ride is a little rough" feels like? In this case a trip to the truck scales can really help sort this out. Need 3 set of weight in progression. TT & TV hitched with WD on, TV and TT hitched no WD (drop the chains) and then truck only. All axle by axle weights. If you are at 1,000# WD bars now, and you should be up in the 1,100 to 1,200# TW range, you really do not want to go lighter bars. I have some experience with your truck suspension, mine is a 05, yours and 06 but they are close. Also tell us, what do you have in the truck bed when towing the TT? and where is it in relation to the rear axle, on top, in front or behind? Any chance of providing fender heights unhitched and then hitched with the WD bars snapped up? Do you haul fresh water to camp and if so where is the tank in relation to the TT axles, on top, in front or behind? Hope this helps John John all good questions will take me a few weeks to get back to the RV and get it hooked up with my crazy work schedule. Actual weight of items inside of RV is more like 700lbs with most of the weight in the back of the RV except for maybe 200lbs up front. I haul about 3 gallons of water Fresh water just enough to flush the toilet while on the road. I have a short bed truck with a ARE Deluxe Walkin Cap which does away with the tailgate on the truck but the ARE Cap weighs almost 450 lbs and a Carry probably 600lbs of gear in the back of the truck when towing. I have changed out the shocks and put on the Rancho rs9000xl adjustables. Rides a little rough is kind of hard to explain. I towed a 6K TT no weight dis or sway control for the dealer on a 25 mile trip on the highway and did not even know the RV was back there it was a smooth ride the same road with my trailer you could feel every bump and the front end of the truck almost seemed like it was bouncing somewhat. Will try and answer the rest of the questions in a couple of weeks although it is going to take a while for me to get to scales. Thanks for any input or thoughts

RE: Good and Bad about Blue Ox Sway Pro

Well so far I like the quality of the Sway Pro still dialing it in since I have not been out much. Called Sway Pro for some tips and must admit there customer support is awesome. They gave me a few things to try since my ride is a little rough when I am hooked up. They said if what they recommend does not work then they will do what ever they need to do to ensure that my towing experience is enjoyable when using there product. Going to reconfigure somewhat while I am out at the camper this weekend and see how it tows home and if I am still not happy they will replace the bars with a different set since my camper is right at the in between weight which the 750lb bars could be used when the camper is empty but since my planned tongue weight was more then 750lb they sent the 1000 lb bars which might be possibly the reason of the rough ride.

RE: Question re: mattresses in hybrids...

We used a 3" topper on top of our heated mattress and I was comfortable. But then anything is a improvement from sleeping in a tent in a sleeping bag on the ground. Of course wife complained so now we are in a 35 foot travel trailer with a sleep number mattress , I expect she will sooner or later find a reason to complain until I put her in a Brand new Class A Diesel pusher!!

RE: Need Help (03 Rockwood 26FT)

There is usually a lighted switch inside the RV, which has what looks like a water drop on it that switch needs to be in the on/light position and ensure your your gas is on and it should start on gas. You should also have a switch to turn on the electric if you want to use electricity instead...With that you must make sure the switch at the waterheater if it has one is turned on by removing the access panel at the outside of the rv for the water heater and turning it on and you might want to ensure the breaker at the power. breaker panel is also on. Before doing any of this you need to ensure that the water heater has water in it. If for some reason the vehicle is still winterized and you turn the electric on to the water heater without any water the element will burn up...I am speaking from experience on this one. I am pretty sure some of your fellow campers at the campground will be able to ensure everything is set up correctly or ask the camp host r somebody from the campground staff and they usually will point you in the right direction... Happy Camping!!

RE: Who drives a F-350 as their sole vehicle and likes it?

Mine is my daily driver unless I ride one of the motorcycles. Since my other vehicle is a ambulance parking the F350 is not a issue for me. Just do not think it is worthwhile for me to get another vehicle. Wife has her car which we use if you are blasting around town in the evenings as a family. But even with out the travel trailer hooked up we use the F350 as our travelling vehicle as a afamily if we are going over 50 miles from the house since there is more room and the kids can be comfy also. CHanged out the shocks to the Rancho RS9000XL's all the way around and it rides so much smoother unloaded now but can be adjusted on the fly when you have the Trailer hooked up.

RE: New TT What Do I need?

Georshrwd great call going to mount one in my outside kitchen this weekend on the new RV. Always trade the one out in the Kitchen on the RV since I am not a fan of the stock one but forget the outside kitchen.

RE: 2001 Ford F-350

Not sure about the price but next door neighbor has a 2001 7.3 with little over 457000 and although the truck body has seen better days (Uses it for his plastering business) the truck runs like a champ. It is totally stock and he has replaced the alternator, water pump, shocks and besides that has only done the normal expected maintenance. Darn good truck in my book....On the other hand my 2006 F350 6.0 with less then 60k is getting ready to be treated to a new Oil cooler already since the origional one has crapped out so the tear down begins on Monday. If I gan get 400K out of my F350 I will be extremly happy.

RE: Elec tongue jack. Atwood, Barker or Bulldog?

For the cost of any of them I see one in my future since cranking up 8500lbs of Travel trailer is less fun then it was when I had the 4500lb Hybrid. If I have to buy a new one every 3 years so be it this old man is done with cranking the beast up and down 8 times for a weekend trip in 75 to 90 degree weather!!
