RE: Flamingo Campground/Everglades

The only generator we have is a Lowes 8500 which is pretty loud. Is that permitted during the day? I wouldnt thinks so but may bring it just in case.

Flamingo Campground/Everglades

Made plans to camp at Flamingo in January for 3 nights. I see that there are no hookups. This will be the 1st time we camp w/o water & electric ( almost really camping LOL). Can anyone who has camped there give us a little advise on what we will need.

RE: Long Key State Park (The Florida Keys)

We have camped at Long a few times and the last time it was late July about a year ago. I think camping there in the middle of the sumer is part of the problem. We were also "shocked" at how HOT the ocean was in front of our site. When the tide goes out at Long Key it does get ugly. A couple of years ago many of the tree's were removed which greatly reduced the shade that is mandatory in the summer & perhpas may somehow attracted more bugs ( Hmmm). Unlike most on this forum I place LK at the bottom of the list of the 4 SP's in The Keys. Once again...camping anywehere down there from June -October is really tuff. We camped at Bahia Honda (waterfront) one June and that was pretty good. Nice swimming from the site but still hotter than Hell.

RE: Bahia Honda Aug 2-7 will be cancelling

Too bad you have to cancel. I just looked at your Bahia Honda pics. Really nice!! Got a question for you, since you had a water front site. I have a site right across the road from the waterfront sites. ( May 2010 ).Is there any room for me to get to the water with my kayak without going through someone else's campsite? Thanks, no substitute for experience.. Russ You can launch from the marina area which is right there... maybe some of the waterfront sites will be open. We usually bring our kayaks there and always seem some friendly folks who dont mind if we launch from their site with permission of course. We were just down in Marathon for July 4th..it was hotter then hellll. Figure we can skip another 5 days of blistering heat.

Bahia Honda Aug 2-7 will be cancelling

Looks like we are going to cancel our trip to BH in August. If anyone would like the spot send me an IM and I'll let ya know what date we cancel it for sure.

RE: Long Key Reservations

Long Key is at the bottom of our Keys SP's list after they cut down those tree's and removed what little shade there was. We have passed Long Key several times on our way down to Curry hammock and Bahia Honda.. Its sad looking in my opinion..might as well just pull over on the side of the hwy and set up camp. :(

RE: Arriving early at Florida State Parks

We have camped at Sebastian Inlet several times and have arrived early. There is plenty of overflow room in the parking lot and the Rangers were fine with letting us park in that area...Usually the sites are already open unless you arrive really early. We'll be @ Sebastian Inlet June 11th for about 4-5 nights.. Nice parks, great beaches, fishing is also good. The stores are a bit of a ride so stock up before arriving.

RE: Going from 205/75R15 to 225/75R15?

I replaced the 205 75R/15 Maxxis tires on our TT about a week ago and went with the larger 225 75R15 tire. Like previously posted just make sure you have enough clearance in the wheel well which you should. I DID NOT go with Maxxis...had 2 blowouts within a month on the 5 year old Maxxis tires that looked just fine prior to the blowouts. The Load Range D tires are a good idea. I noticed an instant change in handling when I changed to the larger tire.

RE: Ants, Ants and More Ants.....HELP

I second the TERRO product perviously mentioned. Living in South Fla. we had a major ant problem in our house. I sprayed, bought traps etc and the ants always returned in full force. A friend told about the Terro product. I bought a couple of boxes at Lowes for inside and outside of our hosue....and within a day or so the ants were gone. That was about 2-3 months ago and I havent seen an ant yet.

Looking foward to hitting the road this weekend with some peace of mind. Heading to Ft. Desoto for 8 days. Life is Good :) but it aint cheap !

RE: Almost another blowout at 62 MPH

Consulted with the local tire shop this morning. He suggested that I go with a larger KELLY tire which is 225/75R15 which will also be an upgrade from a C to a D for load...or 6 ply to 8 ply. I could have went with a 10 ply but the cost was considereably higher. The four tires installed, balanced, filled with nitro, heavy duty valve stems and disposal fee. $420 out the door.

Almost another blowout at 62 MPH

I posted about 2 weeks ago that we had a blowout on our TT while traveling between 60-70 mph. Many forum members correctly reminded me of the 65 mph rating on TT tires. When arrived home yesterday from a 3 day trip my DW noticed that another of the original tires looked like is was ready to go. The belt was sperating from the rest of the tire. This time around I kept the mph at 62. At least we made it all the way home and now my question is what brand to replace them with. I just got a price of $84 per tire insatlled for Carlisle (spelling?) Tires. Are these any good? Thinking aboutr Goodyer Marathons if I can find a set of 4 locally before next weekend when we take another trip.

RE: Just brought home our first TT. Whoa...

Your story reminds me of when I picked up our JayFlight. Towing the TT home in a Tropical storm w/ 35+mph winds...It was the first time I towed anything bigger than our old pop up. Congrat's on your new toy....and may you have many years of healthy camping.
