RE: Any one use a hitch rack On the Truck for Genset?

put a recieve hitch on the front of your truck and carry it there. That's where I put mine, but on occassion put it on the back of the 5er if I'm not carring bikes there.

RE: Second battery needed?

spend the extrs money and get two 6volts from Costco. I bet the battery that came with your RV is not even a true deep cycle, but a hybrid type typically seen in boats because they need cranking power.

RE: Honda EU3000I or 2 Yamaha EF2000is Generator

Hapco also sells a compartment for about 1000.00 that will fit in the bed of your truck. It's made for the Honda or Yamaha 3000 and you can leave it in your truck permenent. Has a fan inside of it to keep it cool. I'm not ready to spend the money so right now I either put the Honda 3000 on the back of the 5er's bumper or on the front of my truck. It's a pain to put it in the back of the truck by myself, but it can be done.

RE: Honda EU3000I or 2 Yamaha EF2000is Generator

I also have the key fob start/stop on my Honda 3000 and it is a nice feature to add. I did see camping world selling a 3000 that came with two key fob start/stopping as well as a built in hour meter. I think it was a Champion and it was almost as quite at the Honda if not the same. They only wanted $1100.00 for it. It was just in an add about a week ago.

RE: Running fridge on LP

Why is there a switch to turn off the fridge from auto to gas only. If it's left in auto, shouldn't the fridge switch to gas automatically when you're not hooked up to power? As for the disconnect switch I have never used it. When I get home, I plug the RV in to a 30amp.

RE: Coachmen Charparral 30FBH

I have the 2012 32'2" Coachmen Chapperel. So far no problems with it. I pull it with my 1999 Ford F250 diesel with no problems. Granted it weighs a little less. I think around 8800#'s

RE: Stopping water siphoning and sanitizing

First thing is you should put some water into your fresh water holding tank. If you don't most of the bleach is going to end up in the drain hoses. I had this problem the first time I did it. Second you can do like others said. Just put water into your water hose before screwing in your hose connection to the RV and than use the force of the water to push it into the RV. I fill up the tank until I start to see it coming out of the over fill tubes at the bottom of my RV. It's also nice to take the RV on a road trip to move the bleach around in the tank. I do this sometimes when I'm heading to a full hook up site and dump it there. It's a lot of work to pull it out of the backyard just to drive around the neighborhood. The other method would be to fill a 5 gallon bucket with water and bleach. Than use the small hose that should have come with your RV and suck in the miture from the bucket using you water pump when in the winterizing mode. Or you could by a small 12volt pump that attaches to a drill and pump it in. Yes I wish they would have kept the old fashion fill cap systom because it made it nice when dry camping.

RE: Near Miss While Setting Up

Well I guess I didn't read the instructions that came with my deluxe Bal chocks. I put them in prior to unhooking and levelling. I guess I will go out and purchase some regular chocks and play it safe and then use the bal chocks fr stabalizing. That's why I like reading these threads.

RE: landing gear setup

I like using blocks. Don't like to extend the smaller legs too far as they are not as stable as the outer portion. Also they take for ever to lower and raise. You just have to make sure you have your trailer tires chocked. Had a friend who was on blocks who didn't have a chock on his tires and when he backed his truck in he knocked the king pin and the trailer backed off the blocks and slammed onto his bed rail. In addition to using chocks on both sides, I also hold the manual brake controller when hooking up.

RE: Bike rack on front

I put my 3000 watt honda generator on the front of my 99 Ford F250 and at the time had a 3300# cab over camper. Never overheated so I suspect having a few bikes would not restrict airflow.

RE: Fifth wheel hitch education needed

Some of the newer 5er designs don't require you to have a sliding hitch on the shorter beds. I know my 2012 Coachmen Chapperal doesn't. The king pin sticks out futher and the front cap is designed different.

RE: Battery

I changed by 12 volt Interstate on my 2012 because it is not a true deep cycle battery. Not sure why the dealers put these in RV's since they are more for boats requiring some cranking power and doesn't have much on amp hours. I went to Costco and picked up two 6volt. Went to home depot and bought a plastic tub and used it to vent the batteries top and bottom. Between having the six volts, LED lights, and a Honda 3000, not sure if I even want to go solar until the price comes down some more.

RE: Air Bags

I installed them on my 1999 Ford F250 because by Camper tilted more on the right side from the extra weight there. Not sure if I need them now that I have a 5er that weighs just under 9000#s, but I put about 30psi's in them. Would like to know the best way to lower the back end of my truck though. It still sitts up too high. Some one told me that Fords built them to sit up high in the back. Not sure why.

RE: Dead bolt lock!

I don't mind spending the money for a lock that all I have to do is push a button. It had nothing to do about it being more secure than the regular lock. But I do understand some of you would rather spend your money elsewhere. I was only saying if my lock ever goes out, I'll look at spending the $230 for one that has a key fob. Get tired of unlocking it all the time with a key. Peace Out.

RE: Re: cracks in truck tires

The reason for the cracks is more to do with not using your truck than the sun. At least that was what I was told when I went back to Costco because of the cracking. They also don't recommend putting armoral on the tires. They almost didn't give me a credit for bad tires because of the dressing on the tires. Said it voids the warranty. I now use my truck more often since I no longer have a camper sitting ontop of it as I went with a 5er. Covering the tires with plywood does help, but the tires need to be turned. At least this is what I was told.

RE: Adding a Second battery

I also have photos that I can email if interested of my 2 six volt battery install in my 5er. I went to home depot and purchased a rubbermaid cargo box. Drilled a hole in the bottom and glued a pvc pipe that already had a flange on one end (bottom vent). I did the same on the lid. It holds both batteries with a little room to spare. It was a lot cheaper than buying a dual vented battery box. I also purchased a small 6 guage wire at Auto Zone that already had fittings on both ends to join both batteries in series. Only took me about a 1/2 hour minus the time for the glue to cure on the PVC fittings. This is for the 5ers that don't have a seperate battery compartment, but usually have the batteries in the front storage compartment that are vented out via a tubs.

RE: water sanitizing

I'm going on my first boondocking with my new 5er so I need to fill my water tank. My old rv had a fill spout on the outside and you knew the tank was full when the water started spilling out. So my question is once I start pumping the water into the tank after turning the handle selector to do this, how do I know when the tank is full?
