RE: Trip report, part one: 2013 Overland Expo and the TC flood

One of the unusual happenings, at the EXPO, was when a small group of RV.net TC’rs were standing around, talking with me, when an individual walked up and introduced himself and began talking with us. He admitted he was not with our group, in fact had never signed onto RV.net, but in fact was a mega long time lurker. He proved this fact, very quickly, but counting down the 4 people that were standing there with us, correctly by their names and handles! We were all surprised and of course I said; “you probably don’t know who I am, as I don’t post often, or have pictures of me posted.” Without a hesitation, he pegged my name and handle, immediately. It just proves, there are many more people out there reading our posts, than we could ever imagine. Before he walked away, he did say that he just might sign up and who knows, he might be reading my post this very minute. b So much for being the king of anonymity, you are now one of the "infamous" now. That was one of the more interesting happenings of the event.

Jefe it was great to meet you and your lovely wife. Those are awesome pic's in your report and the pic site, we had a great time. It was nice to finally put some faces with forum handles, some were quite different than I expected, which is always a treat. Steve and Sally it was just a pure pleasure to meet the both of you, I hope you two have a safe trip back to the UK. Bryan that is great to hear about the TC's being included in next years OX. We can hardly wait to do it again.

RE: Intro - Hawke

Welcome to the forum and the TC world. Roadside Assistance is a good choice, I have used it and it saved me a $500 tow bill when the trucks rear end decided to grenade on our way home a couple of years ago. Enjoy your trip.

RE: Where Have You Taken Your 4x4 Dually Pickup & TC OffRoad

In the southwest deserts of CA, AZ and some remote areas in Oregon, just take your time, plot your course and at times I have used spotter for some of the more challanging areas to a help avoid any serious damage. Damgage for me sofar has mostly been scraps and scratches. Unigue problems with a DRW is width of the fenders and the duals collecting rocks.

RE: Supplies for your Toy Hauler/Trailer

Sandrail, gas, beer and frozen burritos...... I am GOOD TO GO!!!!!!!!! We really need to work with you on your choice of what constitutes fine dining meals don't we? :B HAHAHAHAHA. I am no chef that is for sure!!!!!! Linc if you're like me, when I'm in the dunes I'm riding, not there to cook. Quick meals, no elabrate feasts unless it's T-day weekend, then I have to defer to the DW for that one. All good suggestions, but I see no one has mentioned the toys, tie downs and straps to keep the toys in check when traveling and proper containers for fuel and other liquids.

RE: Need Answer Immediately: Gas Fridge Operation

If you are connected to 120vac then it may try to work off of AC mode. Mine is a Norcold and auto selects between whatever is available. But if I push the button once it selects AC, 2 for GAS and 3 for DC. I would unplug the AC and see if it picks up the GAS mode.

RE: Can I safely remove the fixed bed in my FB3000 WW?

I am happy to hear Mark could help you out. He's OK in my book, I don't care what some will say about him, he just got caught up in the bigger is better to soon and then the bad economy. WW made a very good TH until the mid to 2000's, then they suffered some serious QC issues. I really think if the economy came around faster, WW would still be in production. We still really enjoy our LE, although it is a 06 and it is starting to show it's age. We have had very few minor problems with ours.

RE: information on 3 different fifth wheel toy haulers

I would choose the WW FTL too, but you will need to upgrade your truck. The FTL had an 18K weight sticker, at least the ones I looked at did, some even had 4 axles.

RE: Add-A-Wall Installation - Clear Flaps on Inside or Outside?

Our windows are on the inside as well, we use our ramp at the beach for a porch. If rain is in the forecast we put up the ramp, even though it covered in vinyl the under layment is just OSB and would want that to get wet much.

RE: Cord rubbing on tailgate

I don't know of anything that you can put over the cord as anything will collect road grit and rub on the tail gate. The only choices is to hang so it clears the tail gate, install a plug in the bed or buy a 5th wheel tail gate. I tried the hanging thing once but couldn't get to stay completely off of the tail gate at all times.

RE: A warning for my BBQ'ing friends

Apparently this is a fairly big problem, because last week there was an article in our paper about the same thing. I brush then wipe the grill with a paper towel sprayed with Pam, keeps things from sticking too.

RE: New here with a few questions

Nothing wrong with a metal roof. Up to I think 2005, all Lances had metal (AL) roofs, the lites didn't have the enamal coating just bare AL. My first Lance Lite was metal, I kind of preferred it to the TPO which is on the one I have now. The metal didn't require any kind of coating, just clean it and inspect it once in awhile. No matter the roof material it still has to be maintained to prevent leaks. Good luck with your camper, sounds like you got a deal.

RE: Resources for locating campgrounds

I don't have any additional info on finding campsites, there have been some really good ones. I do have a few suggestions while in AZ, of couse there is the Grand Canyon either rim, the tourist usually go to the South rim. Then there is Prescott Valley, Jerome an old copper mining town, and Sedona.

RE: KQ Ranch in Julian Ca

We are CRA members too, KQ is an older park, lots of the sites only have water and electric. The area on the other side of the pond is where we like to camp not as crowded most times. The sites are fairly large and you shouldn't have a problem. They have lots of activities and usually sponsored breakfasts and dinners on the weekends, if you like that sort of thing. We liked to stay at Yuma Lakes as well as Emerald Cove, but haven't used our membership in a while.
