RE: Fifth wheel hitch

I also have a 5th wheel and have Reese SS hitch but not a slider. The four "pucks" stick up about 1/4" above bed floor. I use a 1/2" sheet of the closed cell foam board in the bed. The TC just crushes the foam around the pucks and makes a smooth surface for the TC. The TC also settles into the foam a bit too, so there is no movement side to side. I have been using the same sheet of foam for a couple of years now and it hasn't deteriorated much at all.

RE: Larger TV

If you have the wooden swivel TV enclosure (living area) that came in some of WW's, you can remove that and put in up to a 30"er on an wall mount arm. I removed the enclosure and installed a 26" LCD in mine. In the bedroom if you have the corner TV enclosure you can either remove it or cut the opening larger. I opened up the enclosure and put in a 19" LCD in mine. I am thinking of removing the entrie shelf and end wall in the living area to open it up some to be able put in a 32" or larger at a lower height. The shelf currently limits the height to an odd height for viewing.

RE: Sierra Spine Tingling road trip

Great report Jefe, we were just a little west of you, off the 120 and 395, went all the way to Carson City, NV. Love that area, Yosemite was too crowded though, had to go down the eastern slope a bit to find a nice little NFS camping spot.

If you want to take a trip down to San Diego and stay in either Chula Vista RV Resort or Santee Lakes RV park. Check out Doug's Mobile Awning they are great guys, good prices and service. Have used them to repair both of my RV's awnings.

RE: Overland Expo East - Oct. 3-5, 2014, Asheville, NC

I sure am interested in it and would love to stay on site, but $490 for the two of us is a bit high. Anybody know what the day pass is expected to cost? If you check on-line, I found a 3-day pass for 60 bucks, I think it was an early bird special. That was for the OX in AZ though. It seems the day passes don't start selling until a few weeks before the event, so keep checking the OX site. In AZ there was on-site boondock camping for 10 bucks a night.

RE: jefe4x4 interview

Great interview Mike, having met both of you at the OX, you are both masters of the craft of TC'ing. Jefe takes it just a bit futher out there in extreme off-road TC'ing, not many would do what he does with a hardside TC. My hats off to both of you.

RE: My First Truck Camper...HELP!!!

The owner's manuals aren't very helpful, may give model and specs, tanks sizes and such, but that's about it. You will have more luck with the individual appliance websites, most have manuals on-line you can download. Most all manufactures use the same appliance brands.

RE: Trip Report: Sierra Trout Fishing, Camping and Paddling

Great report Buzzcut, we'll be in that area next week. Gave me some good ideas for camping there.

RE: Fuel Station not pumping

The Graco/PBL pumps use a plastic woodruff key to hold the drive gear, if the gears bind then the woodruff key could break. Pump would run but wouldn't pump. I have seen this happen. I would pull the cover and check to see if the gears and key is OK. While you are under there check all of the hoses for cracks creating a possible air leak.

RE: Another almost TC Check In

The Tigers are more a T"C" than a C to me. I guess an Earthroamer would be the closest in form and function with out the hugh price tag. We welcome all adventurous types, who don't like to follow the beaten path. Hope to meet you at the OX.

RE: Camper or 5th wheel ?

In theory the pickup has more ground clearance but who in their right mind would take a super long wheelbase super wide DRW truck offroad even if it is allowed and in many places they are not allowed including on many public beaches. I do this exact thing with both my TC and 34ft 5th TH in the SoCal desert, ISDRA, and Ocotillo with my Dmax. As for C's, I have pulled out stuck ones several times, they suck in the sand. The TC is way more versatile than any MH or C. It just depends on how adventurous you are and how far you wish to push your limits.

RE: Lance Cab Over Strut Bracket Location

Right off the bat, not many people use cabover struts. Nearly, possibly completely, NONE of the replies you will receive here will be based on actual experience. They will be almost pure conjecture. I will have to disagree on this part of your post. I have the struts and I am sure other Lance owners here have them too. Mine work great, on our concrete freeways it takes a lot of back and forth motion out (proposing). There are 3 lengths made for the different cabs made. Measure eye to eye in the collapsed position and post it. I have a spare set that are made for a crewcab and are to long for my setup. If you choose to move the mounts, the advice given on moving the mounts is sound, I would email lance.

RE: SoCal Rally April 11 - 13, 2014

Kathy, first you need a picture hosting site like photobucket or tinypic, upload the pic's to the site and then use their link feature to post them on this site. You will have to use the "Advanced Post Form" above this block. Then click on the image Icon or the Link icon and paste the link. and that should do it.

RE: SoCal Rally April 11 - 13, 2014

We would like to thank all who made the rally and BBQ possible. We had a wonderful time, it was good to see old friends and make some new ones as well. We made it home in just under 2 hours, so much for that horrible SoCal traffic.

RE: Fresh water fill up

Living in SoCal earthquake country, we keep water in ours all the time just in case.

RE: How low are your mudflaps when loaded?

I lost count the number of times I ripped off one those rubber flapper style on a curb when backing over it. I put on the Husky molded style and now have about 4 to 5 inches clearance loaded and don't have a problem backing over curbs now.Husky

RE: Electric Brake Controls?

are these controllers only used with electric brakes. asking as a lot of boat trailers have surge brakes. Yes, electric and electric over hydraulic (disc brakes). Surge has no electrical connection to the TV. I use a Jordan 2020 which has a cable attached to the brake pedal and provides true proportional braking. It is another controller which was bought out and never returned. I think a replacement for the Brake Smart is called Max Brake. I don't think you can go wrong with the P3, they are very popular.

RE: SoCal Rally April 11 - 13, 2014

Wow, we are less than 2 weeks away, where does the time go. We will be coming in on Thursday night and will have Chili and maybe some cornbread for Friday night's festivities. The Margarita bar will open on Saturday afternoon, we will have both alcoholic and non for the kids and the teetotalers.

RE: Hellwig Big Wig Installation Report

Is there any problem clearing an oversized diff cover with the hellwig on a dana 80? Although I don't have Dana rearend, I do have the MagHiTec cover on mine and there is plenty of clearance with the Big Wig. Another is to be sure to order the correct kit, if you have an oversized exhaust system. Mine would have interfered if the stock kit was used.
