RE: Anyone Paint Their Own RV?

Numerous forum members on iboats have painted their boats with the "roll and tip" method. Amazing results from what I've seen. All at a gazzilionth of the price of a pro paintjob. Most cannot tell the difference. Here's a good site that explains: http://hubpages.com/hub/Roll-and-Tip-Method-of-Painting
I'm considering doing my boat this year.

RE: 2006 Gulfstream Endura

Umm. Well, I believe most anyone would hold back comments in fear of offending you or anyone else who has a Gulfstream. Personally, I have always been leery about a few different makes. I'd rather not say which ones. Here's a link to the Gulfstream owners forum "wall of shame: Gulfstream Wall of Shame
The fact is, any RV can be a nightmare. Stay on top of things and do proper maintenance.
How did you like your Dutchman? Just askin'.:W

RE: RV Insurance / Awnings

Well tell us the rest of the story.
Ooops...yeah I guess I was kind of vague. My insurance company picked up the whole tab minus my 500 dollar deductible. My point was that the cost of the awning replacement wasn't the only issue when making a claim. The collateral damage made the claim economically sensible.

RE: AM radio reception?

Am is fairly poor on my MH as well compared to my other vehicles.
AM still has it's place for newstalk, traffic and sports.
Satellite is great but doesn't cover everyones locales or teams. IE: staellite traffic radio on XM is great idf you live in Boston, NY, LA, Chicago or Miami.

RE: awnings

I believe that anything longer than 22' made by A&E requires a center support and not using one voids warranty.

RE: When is it time for new tires.....

Don't ask for opinions... Read it from the experts
Dang you stole my thunder! :B
And it's not just Michelin. Other manufacturers state the same thing.
You'll have some on this site tell you how unsafe tires are after 3 years to 15 years and everything in between. If you have cracks in yours, regardless of how old they are, they're worthy of changing out. With only 18000 miles on them, they are no doubt original and past due.
To read a date code, look at the first two digits of the numerical code on the sidewall, this is the week. For example a code of 0608? 06 would be the 6th calendar week. The second two digits indicate the year. So, 08 would indicate 2008.

RE: K&N high flow filters

Sam. Based on your posts so far, it seems you almost agree that you've been lucky so far. I will agree with your EGT claims, I had the same success with mine on my previous tuner equipped PSD Ford when pulling up the mtns. But I knew I was chancing things based on the fact that I was running a tuner on my engine. It was a calculated risk. I believe the same holds true for oil wetted filters. My Blackstone tests also were clean, but I often wondered how much luck played into it. I read many posts on 'thedieselstop.com' about what everyone called "dusted" engines.

RE: Affordable smaller propane tanks

I bought an 11# tank at a Sports Store in Couer D'Alene Id for 29 bucks. The 5# bottles were 65 bucks!

RE: RV Insurance / Awnings

At that point, making a claim for a damaged awning probably wouldn't be worth my while anyhow.
Well, let me tell ya a story. I had the awning pulled away from the rig by a low hanging branch (at <5 mph). The result was that the awning while tearing away, also damaged the side of the rig and put two small holes in the rubber roof. $10,200 later.......:E

RE: Largest fire in the history of Wis, caused by fireworks.

Look....A paraflare caused the fire - NOT fireworks. Paraflares are not "fireworks". Yes they're a pyrotechnic, but that's where the similarity ends. Paraflares can burn a long time even after they alight and with high intensity. Fireworks normally do not.
That said, fireworks can be dangerous.

RE: oil change

Don't worry about getting every last drop out. Seriously, sometimes we get a little to anal about these things. Get as much out as ya can and careful how much you put in depending on how much drained out. Just be careful that your stands/jack are rated to hold up your rig. It's an easy job!

RE: Favorite driving music

No country here either. A guy can only take so much of their dog dying, wife leaving, don't got no shoes and going to prison.
Ummm, ya forgot the part about his pickup truck?

It's just not worth $7/hour to run the genset just for that.
Yeah....not even close. You need to get that fuel leak fixed!! :B

RE: Holding tank valve issues

I just replaced my black Valterra on my '99 because it had developed a very slow leak which resulted in an ugly surprise when I removed the sewer cap! Ick. I won't go into detail, but suffice to say, I spent a LOOONG time in the shower.....

RE: Banks Power Systems

While I've entertained the idea of doing this, the increased noise in an already noisy rig, puts me off when weighing the benefits. Just a caution, some of the claims Banks makes (especially with respect to mpg and accleration numbers) are ...well....generous. Put it this way, you;ll never recoop the $$$ for the cost of the system through improved fuel economy.

RE: out with the old tv in with the new

take the tv stand off the bottom for a cleaner look. I would also run wires through the cabinet door. I hate to see wires.
Ummm....did you read his post??? :S
....still have to do some cable management......
.....Then when I take it down from it's mount to put on the table ..........

RE: Roof leak A/C

"fisher60" said it. Unlikely that the gasket needs replacing in an '07. The bolt tightening will do the trick. Tighten each one a little at a time, but not TOO much.
