RE: Whazoo's trip of a wifetime, a PDL doc (prettty darn long)

I continue to be amazed at the lengths you will go to and stress you will put your truck and camper through, to entertain your fans. Our set up would never allow us to follow in your paths but it does cause us to yearn to get out west. Thanks so much, Dave for a great report!

I live here in a little town named Petoskey, in the north western part of the mit and I can truely, it truly is an awesome place to live! An endless selection of places to camp, hike, and kayak and right out our back door. It doesn't get much better than this.

RE: Our Article in TCM came out !!!

Such a great article! I can't tell you how much I love to hear of families spending time camping and traveling together. As our girls were growing up, we made several trips out west to the national parks and many trips to the Upper Peninsula, ourselves. And you're right, I can't tell you how expensive those trips were but we are still talking about what great times we had and tons of pictures to prove it. We rarely ate at restaurants but loved to pull off at parks and rivers to have our lunch and dinners.
Our big trips back then were in a pop up, travel trailer and 5th wheel but even now, with the girls older, (26 and 19), we still love any chance we can camp together in our TC.
It was a fun read and I'm sure you will always be a close and loving family because of your camping trips together.
Thanks,

RE: My Rieco-Titan Remote Control Jacks quit working

Crisis Averted!! The remote is working and everything is load up and buttoned down.I've offended mentioned that I am not the mechanic type. So, when something mechanical quits working, where most of you just look at the problem as a challenge, I just simply go into panic mode. Anyways, I had the manuel out and the only solution I could see was having to finish loading manually and that didn't look like a very fun prospect. But before I started down the manuel road, I tried looking at the control box one more time and just started jiggling the wires. Guess what? the main power wire was loose. My first thought was, "it can't be this simple". But when I tightened it down and hit the power switch, the light came on.
Thanks again for the responses and suggestions. Again, this forum is an amazing support group and I appreciate all of you for it.
Thanks,

RE: My Rieco-Titan Remote Control Jacks quit working

It seems that the control box is what's not working. When I switch the timed on button, the light will not go on. And yes. if necessary, I can operate it manually

My Rieco-Titan Remote Control Jacks quit working

I'm loading up my camper tonight and just as I am about an 1" from dropping it in the bed of the truck the remote control system just stopped working. I figured it just timed out so I went back to turn it on but nothing. The camper is now so close to the bed of the truck and tilted forward to be level with the bed that I can't even pull the truck out from underneath the camper. I'm in a real fix right now and could use some advice real quick. Thanks

RE: Can people make a living towing RV's to dealerships

I appreciate everyones input into this topic. Obviously, there is a lot more to think about than expected, especially if this is a prime source of income. Thanks everyone.

Can people make a living towing RV's to dealerships

Just thinking out loud and not even sure if this the right forum to be asking this question but what chances are there of making any real income from towing RV's from the manufacturer to dealerships? I own a truck camper now but have owned both travel trailers and 5th wheels. It's just a thought right now and have no idea what I could be getting into so a little insight what's involved would be appreciated.
Thanks,

RE: Is it OK to gloat?

I really couldn't tell you which is the least expensive way to travel so I'm not about to gloat either way but I am very thankful I can choose to take my truck and camper on our vacations.
First of all, I love to drive. It may take a longer time to get to our destination but for me, the driving is all part of the vacation. I just love to get behind the wheel of my truck and cruise.
This past February when we took a month long trip from Northern Michigan down to the Everglades, it took us three day to get there and the entire time we were having a ball. This was the first time we slept in rest stops and we did that each night we traveled to and from Florida. It was a blast! Travel all day and stop around 9 or 10. We'd watch a little TV and have some wine before turning in and then sleep comfortably in a warm camper all night. In the morning, we could take a warm shower and have hot coffee and breakfast before hitting the road. When we needed the microwave or my wife wanted to blow dry her hair, it was a simple flip of the switch to turn on the generator. We kept the slide in but had plenty of room to use the bathroom or exit the camper. I even loved listening to the semi's run their engines all night on either side of us. Just the thought of knowing we were on the road in our TC kept me grinning from ear to ear.
The rest of the time we stayed at campgrounds. Some were state CG's but most were in the Everglades. But we also spent several nights at Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge while in the Keys. I was surprised it only cost us about $65 per night. As a side note, we never made a single reservation for our entire trip. We also spent six nights with family and even spent those nights in our camper.
The vacation cost us about $1200 for diesel and the entire trip about $2200. I could go on and on about this trip and many of our other camping trips out west or in the small forest CG's in the Upper Peninsula of Northern Michigan. We love spending time out doors and I love getting there from behind the wheel of my truck. So for us, it's not about what is more or less expensive, it's more about being able to choose the way we love to vacation.
Thanks,

RE: FL keys camping

We stayed at the Big Pine Keys Fishing Lodge for a couple of nights this past February and thought it was a very nice place. My only suggestion would be to make reservations very shortly. We just lucked out by getting a spot but I here it's pretty full all winter season.
Wish you the best,

Any Opinions On K&N Air Filters on a Duramax Engine

I'm not even close to being a backyard mechanic so please excuse if this sounds like a "no brainer" question. But I've had my truck for a little over a year and it dawned on me that I never even looked at the air filter. I do have the truck service on a regular basis but I don't ever remember anyone talking about changing the air filter. Anyways, I took a look at it and I really don't think it looked too bad but I was talking to my neighbor who works for Car Quest and he mentioned I should look into replacing it with a K&N filter. My truck is a 2004 Duramax and I believe it is a LLY. Any opinions on K&N filters? Thanks

RE: Would Stable Loads be a help in my situation?

I can only speak from my experience but the Stable Loads made a phenomenal difference in our ride. This past winter, my wife and I took a 4000 mile round trip down to the Florida Everglades and Keys and I was very impressed with how well our truck handled with our AF 1150 sitting on its back. For such an inexpensive investment, I would highly recommend giving them a try.

RE: torklift

If you are talking about the Stableloads, I can assure you, they are very simple. I am a very non-mechanic type but had no problem installing them.
