RE: Washer/dryer choices

We have stackable units, 120 Volt Kenmore Dryer, Maytag Washer.
They work great, the washer and dryer each take about a hour to complete their cycle.

RE: Tire pressure on dually

I run 50-60 max in the rear and 65-70 max front.
Loading the tires to 80 is way overkill and just beats you and the trailer up going down the road.

RE: Full timers-repairs

How do you like the Titan Leveling System?
We really like it, it works very good, it is not fully automatic but only takes a few minutes with the remote.
It was the right choice for us, we move every 2 to 3 weeks so we use it quite a bit.
Great value leveling system for under $2500

RE: Full timers-repairs

Since we fulltime, I have done all sorts of repairs and upgrades at CGs.
When we traded for our new truck I installed the 5th Wheel hitch in the new truck at a CG in Florida. (The truck dealer removed the old hitch from the truck we traded in)Since we went from a 6.5 Ft bed to a 8 Ft bed I sold the slider assembly and bought fixed mount brackets then remounted the head assembly.
I installed our Reico Titan Leveling System at a GA State Park.
I repacked our wheel bearings and inspected the brakes at a CG in Florida.
When living on the road, where else are you to do repairs.
I usually do not ask, (sometimes it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission) I watch the CG and see what others are doing, if there are long-term or fulltime residents at a CG then they have to do repairs at their site!

RE: Looking at trucks

If you really want to look at some $$$, look at the GMC 3500HD DRW SLT (same as the Chevy LTZ) Nice console, comfortable seats, lots of gadgets standard, more numbers on the window than I got fingers and toes, but we love ours :)

RE: Sleeping problems in Travel Trailer

Since we fulltime we recently ditched our factory mattress and replaced it with a custom made memory foam mattress with gel foam on the top layer.
It sleeps great, I now oversleep in the morning and do not get hot at night.
Wish we had done it sooner.

RE: Jayco service

Since I replaced the main power connections on our Schwintek Slide controllers and lubed the track rollers, we have setup and moved about 8 times from Georgia to South Carolina to Texas and back to Florida and had no issues at all.
Both of the Schwintek slides has never worked better.

RE: Longest Satisfactory Use of Easy Lube Axles?

We have the Dexter Easy Lube, but with a little over a year and a half of fulltime use and a little over 10K Towing miles, I decided to pull the hubs and inspect the brakes, repack the bearings and replace the hub seals.
On the right rear brake, I found the self Adjuster Spring broken and the self adjuster not working and on the left rear side I found the hub seal leaking grease onto the brakes.
There was not a lot of grease on the brakes yet, was able to clean up and installed the new seal.
Also I was installing a MorRyde Wet Bolt kit due to squeaking noise from suspension, found one spring with no evidence it ever had a busing in it. All the other spring bushings were in place.

RE: Age old question.

We have a 2012 GMC 3500 DRW, been a great truck so far, very capable tow vehicle.
It will handle anything we will be putting behind it now and in the future.

RE: dual pane windows & weight

We got the Dual Pane Windows on our current 5th Wheel, love them, will never have another 5er with out them.
Yes they are add weight since every window has 2 pieces of glass and they add cost to the 5er but well worth it !!!

We like to do 250 to 350 miles max per day but have done 500+ and were totally worn out at the end of the day.

RE: First time using Dexter E-Z Lube axle

I went ahead and pulled my wheel hubs this weekend while installing a wet bolt kit.
I was going to repack the bearings and use the Dexter Easy Lube but I wanted to inspect the brakes so I pulled the hubs.
Found one the self adjuster spring broken when I removed the hub.
Found one of the leaf springs did not have a plastic bushing in it (No evidence there was every one), guess now I know where the squeaking noise has been coming from.

RE: We Took Your Advice Ordered a Dually

You did the right thing, we switched to a Dually last June and have been very happy with the change.
These big 5th Wheels are heavy and have a lot of surface for the wind to blow around.
Our DRW tows great, rides great and is very stable is all conditions.

RE: Husky Hitch Opinion

We have a 16k Single Jaw Husky hitch that we have pulled our last two 5th Wheels with.
Good hitch, solid construction and like the single jaw, no worry about it coming open

RE: rear axle ratio change better towing capacity

I have a 2006 GMC 1/2 Ton Company truck that I have had since it was new.
It has the 4.8L Engine and currently has a little over 250,000 miles on it.
It has been a great problem free truck but it has very limited load / towing capacity due to the small displacement engine.
With any sizable load or weight it will struggle on even the smallest hills.
I would never attempt to pull a Travel Trailer of any size with it !!!

RE: Pinnacle wireless slide

We had to replace the batteries in our Pendant too.
Still after the battery replacement sometimes our remote would stop and start if I was at the rear of the 5er (Farthest away from the Controller), I increased the length of control module antenna wire and now remote system works great from anywhere.
X2 on verifying the large slide works smooth and correctly

RE: KOA Reservations vs what you get when you arrive

I always add a few feet to our length when reserving or talking to any CG.
We find the site size problems at Campground's from time to time.
Many now have info on the web with actual length and width dimensions which helps a lot when looking for a CG.
Also sites like http://www.rvparkreviews.com help a lot.
Trust me it is not KOA, it happens at any CG, it has more to do with the owners and operators of the CG than being a franchise CG.

RE: Custom mattress

Since we fulltime we decided to a custom mattress for our 5th Wheel from http://www.mattressinsider.com/rv-mattress.html
They will make any size, we measured the actual platform size and have notched corners on the bottom to match our platform. (Our OEM Mattress was larger than the platform as it hung off the end and sides and did not fit very good).
I just sent them a sketch of the size with dimensions.
Mattress arrived in about 10 days, it fits perfect, well made and sleeps great.

RE: 5'ver hitch install

I moved our 5er Hitch from our previous 07 Chevy 2500HD to our 12 GMC 3500HD, was not that big of a deal, but drilling that first hole in a new brand new truck was the toughest part.
Also changed the mount from slider (6.5 Ft Bed on 2500HD) to a fixed mount (8 Ft Bed on 3500HD).

RE: Rv washer and dryer

We have stackable units, they are the 24" Compact models.
The washing machine is a Maytag and the Dryer is a Sears 120 Volt model.
Both units are actually made by Whirlpool, as there are Whirlpool models with the same specs.
Bought both of them at Sears about a year ago, we fulltime and used them regularly.
We have been happy with the performance of both units.
The Washing Machine takes about a hour to complete a standard cycle, the dryer takes about a hour also for most items so it works out good for us.
We run the washing machine and dryer at the same time once we get started and both usually finish within 15 minutes of each other.
