RE: Satellite installation DIY?

We have a VU Qube and were also concerned about it getting legs. . .so what we do is bring it in at night or when we leave the area but leave the cable on the ground so it only takes a minute or so to get back on. The biggest advantage of a automatic portable is that you can get reception where there are a lot of trees around. This is especially nice during the hot Summer months as you can pick out a nice shady spot and still be able to watch TV.

RE: Electrical Problem

I would say take a close look at the contacts on your transfer switch. . .10 years is a lot of opening & closing and you might be able to dress them out rather than replace the switch.

RE: Difficulty locating source of leak

I saw where a guy cut a thin piece of plywood to fit in a side window then cut a round hole for a leaf blower to pressure his coach and used a soapy solution in a squirt bottle to look for bubbles and find the leak. I haven't tried it myself but it seems reasonable & might be worth a try.

RE: Condensation in the Headlights

I had a amber side light that had moisture in it all the time and I tried to seal it every which way but no joy. . .finally I drilled a 1/16 " hole in the bottom to let it breathe and the problem went away. . .hope this helped

RE: Batteries

The only way to tell for sure is to use a volt meter and take a reading at the battery terminals when the coach is plugged in.

RE: Installing Satellite on a new Class A

I have a VU Qube that I purchased over a year ago and it does a nice job especially where there are trees around. . .I was concerned about it growing legs, so I just bring it in at night or when we are going to leave the park & leave the cable on the ground. . .then when I bring the Qube back out, I set it in the same place where the cable is and don't have to touch any adjustments. One thing for sure, it beats the heck out of setting up the tri pod especially in lousy weather.

RE: Can't Get in The Entry Door !!!

The same thing happened to me 2 months ago when we came home from camping but we were on the inside. . .I wiggled & jiggled the latch until it barely worked one time then when the door was open, emptied a half can of spray lube on every thing that moved and it worked perfectly. . .now I know that you are on the outside and can't get at the mechanism, but here is an idea. . .drill a very tiny hole just large enough for the straw on a can of spray lube to reach inside and let her rip. . .me thinks that it would be a lot cheaper to repair a 1/16" hole than to pry or bust out a window.

RE: Cost comparison / Gas and Diesel upkeep and maintenance

I have had both gas & diesel rigs and am able to do my own maintenance so don't see much of a cost difference either way.

RE: Give me answers on sulfiting batteries.

I had the same thing happen on my diesel tractor. . .it wouldn't start, then when I put a charger on the battery, it appeared to come up to full charge in just a few minutes but still wouldn't start my tractor. Before buying a new battery, I bought a "Battery Minder" as their brochure said that it would de-sulfinate batteries and sure as heck, after leaving in on for several days, it started right up and that was three years ago. Needless to say, I was sold and bought two for the motor home and haven't had any problems at all.

RE: RV Batteries

Batteries normally don't use much water if you have a three stage charger. . . some of the earlier rigs have a constant voltage charger which boils the water out fairly quickly as it doesn't back down the charging rate when the battery is full.

RE: RV Covers

I bought one a few years ago, used it one time and decided that it was not worth the trouble to put it on & take it off as it was awkward & heavy plus there are lots of tripping hazards on the roof. . .much easier & safer to wash & wax my rig. Also, they tear easily and don't last very long.

RE: May purchas Fleetwood Expedition

We bought a brand new Expedition in 2006 with the Cat 300 and it has been pretty much problem free. . .the Cat has plenty of pulling power in the mountains where we live, the Allison is smooth, slides & jacks all work nicely & exhaust brake does a good job. . .the minor problems include one A/C that developed a tight spot on the fan motor which I had to free up, the door lock almost locked us inside and I had to use spray lube to looses it up and we had to read the owners manual to get the wind shield wipers to work. Not intuitive at all. . .lastly, one of the overhead front window fans was noisy and I had to take it apart & lube the shaft and that's about it for 3 years of service so no complaints from me.

RE: Dead batteries?

A digital volt meter & hydrometer are necessary tools to trouble shoot your system. . . we have a 2006 Expedition and never have dead batteries even when left off for months at a time. Having said that I do have two 1 amp battery minders ,one on each system, connected to keep a trickle charge going.
