RE: RV Rentals

Here are links to two companies which one sees on the road all the time. I have no personal knowledge for either of them.

Both companies are experienced in renting to people from Europe. You should have no problems. I have frequently talked with people from Europe while camping in the south west areas. (Many from Germany at Monument Valley, Zion, and Bryce Canyon)

RE: Rincon Parkway?

This is probably late but I was watching para gliders near the parkway yesterday afternoon and found close to a dozen empty slots available at 4 PM.

RE: Is VanDamme State Park near Mendocino open?

We camped there in late September and they were just in the process of annoucing the cuts. At that time, the ranger said that only MacKerricher would be open until March. MacKerricher is also a great park on the north coast.

RE: Rincon Parkway?

It has been back open for quite some time now. I have not been out there for a week or so and can't say if it is already filled for turkey day.

RE: Boon Docking in CA

The Rincon Parkway is a County park, not a State Park. The State Park is further south, beyond the day use areas. FYI, the parkway has porta potties about every quarter mile and some trash dumpsters. It was recently resurfaced but as described, it is just parallel parking next to the rock barriers. There is no nudist beach is Ventura, there was an unofficial area near Bates Rd. in near Carpenteria but I think it is a thing of the past.

RE: Halibut in Alaska

Probably he was talking about Ninilchik. Just wait, you will likely get dozens of recommendation on charters to use and places to stay. All will be right. Even if you don't charter there, at least stop by and watch them launch the boats, it is something to be experienced.

RE: PALM SPRINGS TO HWY 101 PACIFIC COAST

In answer to your question of where you should start north on 101, I would recommend against starting in Santa Monica through Malibu. The scenery is nice but the traffic is terrible. I would agree that taking the 210 to join the 134 taking you to the 101.
From Ventura all the way to the Gaviota Pass is an easy road. Whether you go inland at Santa Barbara or stay on 101 to Buelton, you will face some steep grades. I prefer 101. If you are going to Solvang, you can easily drive there from Buelton. If you are driving from Palm Springs, depending upon the time of day, that can be one long day of driving.

RE: Los Angeles to Twin Falls, Id

My only comment would be to fill up in Bishop at either the Von's or the Piute Palace rather than Tonopah. We took that route to Jerome last May and it was an easy drive, very scenic, and the road was good. Weather in May was perfect for this trip. I think we stayed the night in Ely before heading to Idaho. Look for the base jumpers when you cross the bridge heading into Jerome-Idaho Falls. Quite a sight.

RE: $6500 tax credit for current homeowners to buy new RV?

The government website is probably your best source of information and what you do with the information open to interpretation is up to you. http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=206291,00.html

RE: Update on Rincon Parkway

I drove out there this afternoon and can report that they have repaved the parkway section and re-marked the individual parking spot. I can't bring myself to call them campsites. As far as I can tell there are no improvements, per se. There are 127 parking spots. I don't know if the spots are the same size as they were before.

RE: Kirk Creek Campground in March

30 to 40 degrees, windy, foggy, rain, hail. Darn Sunset Magazine for listing Kirk Creek. It used to be a little known gem on the Big Sur coast where you could just drive in and hope to find a decent spot.

RE: Best place for solar panels?

I notice that you are in Phoeniz. RV Solar Electric is located in Scottsdale and are knowledgable and fair people. They were honest enough to tell me that they could not match a recent deal on a panel..most of the time they can. I have also dealt with AM Solar, located near Eugene, Oregon. Same thing, very easy to deal with and were quick to replace rather than repair my HPV22b controller. Not all panels are created equal. In addition to the wattage, consider their maximum amperage also. You want them to put the maximum juice to your batteries for the least price.

RE: Broken Radio Antenna - Where To Find Replacement?

It is a standard rv radio antenna. I found mine at a local auto stereo specialty shop. I could not find it at parts houses or Pep Boys. Mine cost about $25.

RE: Camp Grounds around Los Angeles

It would be helpful if you could say how long you expect to be gone and how far you are willing to drive to park your rig. Also, whether or not you are a member of the Elks club.

RE: Camping World Spartenburg

Mis diagnosis of problems on RV's is not limited to Camping World. While I have also had a problem with a CW service, I have also had them make an adjustment after the fact in the form of a credit. This was while they were owned by the Affinity Group. I expect that a legitimate concern brought to a manager's attention will get some response.

RE: Getting from 101 to PCH

I would head north on 101 to Camarillo and cut over to Pt Mugu at Lewis Rd offramp. Then back track south to Leo Carillo.
For JohnG3, Leo Carillo is located between Malibu and Pt Mugu, not north of Santa Barbara.

RE: Condensation in double pane window on driver's side

Ironic that just this afternoon I had a glass company give me a quote to replace the stationary section of the drivers side window. His quote, with me doing the removal and installation, was only a $100 less than what Fleetwood would charge to drop ship both halves of a new window set. I would check your manufacturer before deciding on a local company. I may still go that way but options are great things to have.

RE: Workhorse recall - brakes

Bsinmich, if you want to join a class action suit, why not start it yourself rather than waiting for someone else to start it. I am sure there are a number of people who are also waiting for someone else to start it and would be willing to join you.

RE: Oregon State parks price increase

There are higher fishing license fees for non residents, I see nothing wrong with any state having a two tier rate schedule for State Parks also. Oregon parks are truly a bargain and should be adequately funded.
