RE: Redwoods

Ancient Redwoods RV park in Redcrest is also on the avenue and has water, sewer and electric (no cable).

RE: Redwoods

Has anyone camped along the Avenue Of The Giants?
Depending on the size of your rig, there are plenty of options for camping on the Ave of the Giants. One that comes to mind is Richardson Grove state park which is right on the avenue. We stayed there several times when we had smaller rigs.

RE: Ironing Board for Motorhome

I had to ask my wife what an ironing board was. We don't even have an iron at home or on the road.

RE: Looking For Marcus

So - where is Marcus - he used to respond fairly quickly to members concerns but lately - nada!??
It took exactly 52 minutes ( at 11:27 pm) for a member of the GoodSam care team to respond in a satisfactory manner to the op's concerns. What difference does it make if the response is from Marcus himself or a member of the team he has established to monitor and handle the problems and concerns posted here? To expect him to monitor and respond personally to a forum which is active 24 hours a day is ridiculous.

RE: Membership expired

So Admin says it was an honest mistake and I accept that. Now those who threw around "sleazy and fraudulent", do you still want to stick with that or admit you jumped the gun?? Inquiring minds want to know?
I'm sure you know that the ones you are referring to will never admit to being wrong. In the past few days I have seen Marcus and his team referred to as minions, underlings and hired guns as well as sleazy and fraudulent. They don't even appreciate the fact that Marcus gives us the opportunity to post our concerns and criticisms here. I know of no other company, club or organization that provides their members and customers the opportunity to do this. And many of these people admit to not being members; which leads me to believe they just need to criticize someone and GoodSam is an easy target. Honest criticism can be productive. But the name calling and belittling of those who I believe are making an honest effort to improve the club and services provided helps no one. No, I do not work for GoodSam; but I have been a member since 1990 and have seen many improvements in recent months and I am confident Marcus and his team will continue to do more. I want to say a big "THANK YOU" to Marcus and all of those members of his support team that make GoodSam a leader in promoting the rv lifestyle.

RE: Oil change on Onan 7500 quiet diesel

According to my manual the 7500 QD holds 3 quarts including the filter. Incidentally, you can download the manual online at the Onan website.

RE: Membership expired

But it's not "sleazy" or "fradulent" enough to stop frequenting this forum and posting this kind of remark?
I know you will take a lot of heat for expressing you opinion, but I just want you to know that I agree completely with you. There are some here who just can't resist taking any shot they can at Marcus and GoodSam. I have been a member since 1990 and have always appreciated all that GoodSam does for the rv'ing community.

RE: Discounts at campsites with GS Club?

If you worry about 10%, you have big problems on a $30 stay.
That's kind of a silly statement to make. How about if you are staying several nights as we often do? On a 10 day stay 10% pays for one full night. Plus, even if you only stay one night, $3 can add up pretty fast on an extended trip. Maybe $3 isn't important to you, but on a thirty day trip it becomes $90 pretty fast.

RE: Sonoma County, CA or Nearby

If you want to be right near the water, you can't beat Doran beach or Westside park in Bodega Bay. Doran has all back-in sites, while Westside is mostly pull- throughs with views of the channel in and out of the marina.

RE: Coast to Coast/GS/GNPs

It would really help if the good sam parks had pricing next to them.
Unless the park agrees to not change their pricing for the time period covered by the guide book, that would be rather useless information. I can't imagine any park would agree to those terms. I know I certainly wouldn't if I were a park owner.

RE: Brookings Or to Portland

Hwy 101 from Brookings to the North is a very scenic and easy route to drive. You will have to head back to I-5 at some point, but I would go all the way to the Astoria area before heading back to I-5. Yes, there are some narrow winding areas, but nothing to be concerned about. We drive that section regularly (usually North to South) with a 40' dp and toad. Take your time and enjoy all the things that the Oregon coast has to offer. You can't beat the Oregon state parks.

RE: What's Frugal and what's cheap?

We do the opposite. We eat out more often when on the road. We always enjoy trying local eateries and have found some really great places to eat. Besides, we rarely eat out when home, so trying new places is a real treat for us.

RE: Older motorhomes

We have a '97 Dynasty with the 325 Cummins and Allison. I keep all systems serviced and ready for the road. We also tow an '08 Edge. I would not hesitate to head out cross country in this coach.

RE: Front Windshield Curtain Cleaniing

Take them to a local dry cleaner. They will clean and press the pleats so they look as good as new. We have ours done every two years. We usually pay around $30.00.

RE: Camping at Redwood National Park

Ancient Redwoods rv park in Redcrest is a great place to stay for access to all of the redwood parks. I would also recommend that you visit the Victorian village of Ferndale a few miles North of Redcrest.

RE: Advice on Costco or Sam's Club?

Our experience has been the opposite of most here. We had both and did not renew Costco. Costco always had long lines waiting to get checked out. To me the atmosphere was like a flea market, with products always being moved to different locations between visits and similar items not being grouped together. Of course the meat, refrigerated and frozen items were always in the same place, but we always had to search for the products we bought on a regular basis. At Sam's club we can wander the isles just as we do at a regular grocery store and always find items in the same place. Also, checkout is always fast with minimal waiting. As far as selection and pricing, we have not noticed any substantial difference.
