RE: Upside down handle on hitch

I flipped mine down several years ago and have not had any problems. I am 6' tall so I do not have any problems reaching the handle. My wife can not reach the handle but that is ok cause it is not her job.

Your Duck Is Dead

Thought this was funny. A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird’s chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, “I’m sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away.” The distressed woman wailed, “Are you sure?” “Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead,” replied the vet. “How can you be so sure?” she protested. “I mean you haven’t done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something.” The vet rolled his eyes, turned around, and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck’s owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly, and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, “I’m sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck.” The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys, and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman. The duck’s owner, still in shock, took the bill. “$150!” she cried, “$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!” The vet shrugged, “I’m sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it’s now $150.”

RE: Now I went and did it

I had to fix a hole in my 5er. Went to Wal-Mart auto section and picked up Bondo with fiberglass fibers already in the mix. I mixed it per the instructions on the can. I put it in the hole in several layers sanding between layers. This sets up in minutes. After sanding the last time I sprayed the area with white (Fusion Rustoleum paint for plastic)then sanded with 1800 grit sandpaper. If you do not know where the hole was at I would almost defy someone to find it. This fix was much easier than fiberglass mat.

RE: Forest River Fifth Wheels

We own a 2005 Cedar Creek 5er and love it. Have not had any major problems after pulling for over 42000 miles. I would not hesitate to buy another one. Good luck with your choice.

RE: Tire Bubbles

Wow, talk about a bomb about to go off. You need to go buy a lottery ticket because you are one lucky son of a gun.

RE: Our second RV trip

Yes they are nuts! The point of our RV is to enjoy ourselves. When we travel at 62-65 mph we are able to drive comfortably and in total control of our rig. When I have driven over 70 I feel as though I am outside of the envelop and something bad could happen at any time.

RE: Leaky toilet

We have a 2005 Cedar Creek and had the same problem. There was a small cleaning tool that came with our unit. I cleaned the seal. I also added a small amount of seal conditioner and let it set overnight. Have not had a problem since then (3 years). We do now clean the seal once a year and add the conditioner each spring.

RE: Good Sam Benifits?

I am a life member of GS and find that the benefits that we receive sometimes fall into the invisible category of advocates. The work that GS does to help keep laws RV friendly allow many of us to still park our RVs at home. This forum (while not titled GS) is part of the parent company of Good Sam and we could lose it without the support of membership. Before you throw rocks at an organization make sure that you know everything that it does for you. As others have said, look at all of the organizations and pick the one that is right for you but keep in mind, the total advocacy that they do for the RV experience.

RE: Front cap of fiver is open on bottom.

I also have a Cedar Creek 29LRLBS which I think is what you have. That very same seam came apart on ours. Our unit is a 2005 and the problem showed up the second time we used it. The problem was the screws. They put new screws in and we have not had a problem with it since then and that was 4.5 years ago and 35000 miles later.

RE: They'll be fine... they'll be fine... they'll be fine...

Sound like your wife is a keeper. It must make you feel good that she is capable of handling such an emergency. I hope this doesn't put a damper on her driving experience.

RE: Used RV Value

Sometimes the confusion is the difference between the trade-in value (wholesale) and the used vehicle values (retail). You might talk to a dealer and see what they would sell a used unit for then compare that to the NADA value.

Issue with Tire Replacement

Today, after checking with the local tire dealers, I selected one to replace the tires on my Cedar Creek 5ER. While they were changing tires, I went back into the shop (even though the signs said not to) and found my unit up on jacks with them placed on the axles about 10 inches in from the wheel. After they peeled me off of the ceiling they said they have always jacked trailers that way with no problem. This dealership has been in business for almost 50 years. My question is, has anyone else had this problem and has it ever caused damage to the axle? After a lengthy discussion with the manager he put a statement on the invoice that they had jacked the unit on the axle.

RE: D-Day

My birthday is June 6th 1950. It is an honor to share my birthday with the day that those brave men fought their way on shore to give the freedom back to those that had it taken away by a "crazy tyrant". :By feel the same way about each of the brave men and women that continue to fight for our freedoms.

RE: Integraged trailer brake

I have had the integrated brake controller on our 2005 Ford f-250 which we bought in September of 2004. The same day that we bought our first 5er. It is the best thing since sliced bread and slicker than snot on a glass door knob to use all of the cliches. Once you have used it you will never go back to the old add-on brake controllers.

RE: Breakaway switch hook up

Like others have said, I use a clip that is attached to a hole on my Reese hitch. The clip that I use is a carabineer. To prevent the breakaway cable from getting caught, I run the cable through a 18 inch piece of garden hose. It does not affect the operation of the cable but does prevent it from getting caught in corner of the hitch or other things in the area.

RE: Taking Delivery Saturday woo hoo

Congrats on your new 5er. If I were in your shoes I would not be able to sleep between now and Saturday. Hope you have many great trips and memories.
