RE: on the road

Lazy Days Campground at Montgomery City is a very nice campground. It is West of St. Louis and just off of I70. We have always enjoyed staying there.

RE: Awning

My husband made some supports for our slide toppers with pvc pipe. I made him a bag out of old jeans and when he takes the supports out he takes them apart and stores them in the bag. This keeps them neat and out of the way. The pvc supports do not blow out like the beach balls/floats we have tried.

RE: NEW 5TH WHEEL SLIDE AWNINGS YES OR NO??

I agree with everyone on the slide topper cutting down on the heat inside the rig and not having to brush off the top of the slide before you bring it in. I also wanted the slide toppers because my hubby isn't getting any younger and I didn't want him climbing up to clean off the top of our slides. Having him on the roof is nerve wracking enough!

RE: Life after FTing

We bought almost a half acre of land near family and had RV hookups installed. The tax on the land is around 35.00 per year. When we come off the road (hopefully not for several years)we will find a used mobile to put on the land. Life is to short for what ifs!

RE: Rv Buglarized

I agree....where was this park? I certainly don't want to park there by mistake. We are in the Rio Grande Valley in a park with very good security. We have heard of several parks (without the fence and gate) that have been hit.

RE: On I 90 in Montana!

Thanks for all the help...our fiver is about 16,000 pounds. We don't know of any construction. The guy who was telling us to avoid I 90 thought that was to much for the truck. He said the road was straight and straight down. Which seems kinda strange to us because it is an interstate. We came over Lolo Pass today with no problems. Again thanks for the help!

On I 90 in Montana!

We are West of Bozeman, MT and have been told not to travel on I 90 between Bozeman and Butte due to Homestake Pass. We were told to go back to 12 hiway and up to Helena and back down on 287 to I 90. We are pulling a 38 foot fiver with a Duramax diesel with Allison Transmission. Any thoughts or help you can give us would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Hospital in Lewiston, Idaho

Old Biscuit..... I guess I wasn't clear on the VA. The VA doctor in Missouri thought he would be okay but only if we went directly to the VA in Spokane. We went to the Spokane VA immediately upon return. We explained what was happening and what the VA doctor in Missouri told us. The doctor in Spokane told my husband to come back for a stress test. It is a three hour drive to Spokane from our volunteer position. We believed the Spokane doctor and went home. I called the VA on Monday (five days after the Spokane ER visit)because the promised letter/call about the stress test had not been received. I was told the doctor had marked it as routine! My husband was getting worse and that is why we went to the ER in Lewiston. Thanks to everyone for you best wishes.

Hospital in Lewiston, Idaho

In March of this year my husband and I became full timers. We each had a physical before we left and received a good report. They were amazed at how healthy my husband was and that he only took one medication. My hubby is very active, riding his bike, walking, etc. Two weeks ago he began experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath while walking, etc. He did tell me because he thought it was indigestion! We went to the VA Clinic in Belton, MO (was there for a family function) and the doctor wanted him to go to the hospital immediately. But my stubborn Missouri mule wanted to come back to where our fiver is located. The doctor said okay but go to the VA Hospital in Spokane the minute we got back to Spokane. We did and was told someone would contact us about a stress test! At this time my husband continued to only experience chest "discomfort" and shortness of breath on walking. To make a long story short this past Monday things went downhill rapidly. I took him to the ER at the hospital in Lewiston, ID. What a great bunch of people. They knew we were a long way from home and took very good care of us. My husband had a 100% and 99% blockage and a 20 and 30% blockage. The larger blockages now have stents! Anyway if anyone is in the Lewiston area and need ER care don't hesitate to go to the hospital in Lewiston. As for the VA I have lost all confidence in them. This will not stop us from full timing....there is to much to see and do in this beautiful country of ours. Happy trails to all of you. May God Bless you as he has us!

RE: Clothes hamper mod?

I love reading this thread. We had a laundry chute in our old rig and I loved it. Shortly after purchasing the rig the laundry chute came in handy for something else. We picked the rig up, drove 35 miles home and discovered the dealer had given us the wrong keys. Our neighbor had a fifth wheel and therefore could open the basement door. My husband crawled through the basement and up the laundry chute to open the door while we waited for the correct keys to arrive! Always made me think about the possibility of bad guys doing the same thing!

RE: This is the way we are doing it.

I agree with sdianel. We began full timing in March and all ready I'm finding "treasures" I thought I couldn't do without are being given to the local charities. We also bought a small piece of land and put hookups on it so we will have a place to stay when we go back. So far full timing, getting rid of the house and stuff we didn't need or hadn't seen in years has been a very good thing. Each person is different so each has to decide what is best for them.

RE: street address

We are using a mail service in Madison, SD. Terry is awesome and we have had no problems. Terry notifies us when we have mail and we tell her where to send the mail. We are work kampers and have a post office box here. Friends and family just send the mail directly to us until we leave the area. We use Madison as our "home of record." We have our Driver's License and truck/trailer there also. Has saved us a lot of money so far.

RE: "Dish" for Fulltimers

We have Dish TV. When we called to set up the account the young man told my husband our address was the same for three or four other people. My husband explained it was forwarding address and there was no problem. We pay by paperless billing and it has worked fine. Good Luck!

RE: RE: Can I make 1100mi &back in 9 days

We drove from Missouri to Idaho in four days. We didn't rush and took our time. My husband drives between 60 and 62 mph. I would like to say that with kiddos along you have to stop more often. Good luck on your trip and most of all enjoy the trip!
