RE: Filling Propane Tanks

I only have had the tanks filled while on the trailer when I was leaving a campground and the the fill tanks we right there at the exit; otherwise I have always taken the tanks off of the trailer and had them filled.

RE: Propane Switch Over Valve

From my experience the indicator is either green or red, no in-between. If the guage is green and the tank is empty or tank valve is turned off or the gusge is bad.

RE: Vent Cover Replacement - Step by Step

Thanks for the kind words. It really was kind of fun actually. I only needed a screwdriver and a pair of pliers and less than an hour of my time. I also installed a battery cut off switch and I was hoping to document that too. I have noticed after about 4-5 years thing need to be replaced or maintained, even if they aren't used that much like the vents.

RE: Best practices to prolong tire life?

Roll 'em down the highway is the best way to prolong life. :W
This also gets you the best mileage for your money out of your tires and keeps you doing what you like to do! :C

RE: Stored TT draining battery

We had that happen so we installed this. I put it right in the top of the battery box.
I went to Pep Boys and bought a short battery cable so I wouldn't have to cut the cable. Take the negative off and put it on one side of the switch, take the new cable and connect the other side of the switch to the battery. Whenever you are not using it, turn it off. I went one step further and got a solar charger. The key with that is you have to install the charger cables directly to the battery or it won't charge. Also, remember to turn on the baterry cut off if you are towing or charging the battery from shore power.

RE: Battery Drain

Same thing happened to us. We got the battery cut-off switch for around $15 at the local RV store. You put it in-line with the negative cable and turn it off when in storage. I just checked mine today after a week of sitting and it is still showing full!
This is the one we got.

Vent Cover Replacement - Step by Step

On our last camping trip, when we stopped for lunch, I went to open the roof vent and the plastic had disentigrated!
So this weekend I went to the local RV supply and picked up two replacements.
There are four different hinge types available. This is for replacing the "crimped-end" style of hinge.
The process was fairly simple and took about 15 minutes for each one.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/1_OldCover.jpg
1-The old vent cover (The one that was still there!) cracked and brittle.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/2_RemoveFrame.jpg
2-Remove the outer frame (This vent was in the bathroom so make sure to close the toilet-lid so you don't have to fish for the screws!)
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/3_FrameRemoved.jpg
3-This is with the outer frame removed.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/4_RemoveHandle.jpg
4-Remove the crank handle (Make sure the vent is in the up or open position before you do this) Next is the screen.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/5_RemoveScreen.jpg
5-Two small screws hold the screen in place.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/6_RemoveCrankAssembly.jpg
6-The crank assembly has to be removed to get the wheel out of the track. You will bend something if you dont!
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/7_LiftAssembly.jpg
7-Lift the assmbly and remove the wheel from the track.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/8_UnpackNewCover.jpg
8-I decided to replace the old white cover with this smoke color (The RV store was out of white!) White $11.99; Smoke $13.99
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/9_BraceFirstEnd.jpg
9-Slide one end of the brace into the slot. Make sure the track is orientated so the wheel opening is towards the hinge side.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/10_ScrewSecondEnd.jpg
10-Two small screws hold the other end of the brace
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/11_VentAssembled.jpg
11-The complete assembly. Now it's time to go up to the roof.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/12_RemoveCrimp.jpg
12-This is the crimp style of hinge. Bend back one of the two ends. Make sure you know what hinge style you need before ordering (or like me driving to the store thinking there was only one kind!)
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/13_SlideOldCover.jpg
13-Slide off the old vent cover.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/14SlideInNew.jpg
14-Slide on the new vent cover.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/15_CrimpNew.jpg
15-Crimp both ends of the hinge!
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/16_InsertArmWheel.jpg
16-Insert the wheel from the crank assembly. Time to go back down to complete the installation.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/17_ReplaceCrankAssembly.jpg
17-Replace the two screws of the crank assembly. Now is a good time to test the movement of the vent to make sure everything works as it should.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/18_ReplaceScreenCover.jpg
18-Replace screen and cover.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/19_ReplaceCrank.jpg
19-Replace crank.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/rushep/VentCover/20_NewCover.jpg
20-New cover in-place and operating corectly!
That was it! Not too difficult.
I just want to share this experience to show how easy it was and as a reminder to check the condition of even the little things before you head out on the road.
It was lucky for us there was no rain that week we were without a cover!

RE: New tires for the tow vehicle

I have the Terra Grapplers and they are great performance tires. The only problem I have is the rears tend to wear down too quickly. I know I am kind of a lead foot but it seems like the don't even make it to the next oil change without going near bald in the back.
Today I am replacing the rears with GoodYear Silent Armors. My last truck I had Wranglers and they would last 30K miles so I hope to get the same out of these.

RE: Boondocking in the Smokeys on One Battery

I can get 2 1/2 nights on our battery. It never fails in the middle of the 3rd night the heater won't light. I have tried the truck to recharge but it takes too long. I was thinking of getting a solar panel jusdt to keep the battery topped off every day.
