RE: Choosing a Dealer

Now that is refreshing.

RE: Choosing a Dealer

but I wish I had patronized a Good Sam authorized dealer where I could have more confidence in the integrity of the dealership. Now that's funny stuff right there. That is funny, my MH came from one and I ended up getting the rear radiator steam cleaned, front end aligned and had to replace the front tires. The experiance I got from this was priceless as the next MH I buy will be gone over with a triple fine tooth comb. Having to replace the front tires due to alignment actually got me some money since the TYRON System they "installed" to prevent the tire coming off the rim from loss of air wasn't on there. They refunded the 1500.00 real quick. There was a miscommunication in the shop. Always wondered how many other "miscommunications" in the shop happened. The radiator was clogged due to a short Oil Blow by tube spraying all the oil blow by directly into it. There was a Service Bulletin issued by Freightliner and they would cover the parts and cleaning of the radiator under the chassis warranty. The GOOD SAM Dealer was a National Dealer yet claimed to know nothing of the SB, I didn't find the problem until I was pulling a long grade a month after the Chassis warranty expired and 9 months after I bought it. It was a Good Sam Certified RV. If I buy another used RV I will check for recalls and service bulletins. BTW, this dealer actually has a full service maintenance facility.

RE: Mattress Replacement ??

Dave, You've got that right. The responses were more differing then I really expected. Some like the Sleep Number bed, others didn't. Some liked the Foam Type beds and others say they are too hot to sleep on. We're still about were we were before I asked. The most comfortable bed either of us remember was our waterbed, but it wouldn't be the most practical choice cruising down the road. Right now we are getting ready to head to AZ right after Christmas and will be there for at least 3 months so I think we will look at Bed in the Box and Sleep Number to see which one we would like. I'm sure I can find a Sleep Number store in Yuma, wonder if there is a Bed in The Box store there also? The thought of the Memory type foam is interesting because if you get the proper density and thickness it could be really comfortable, the only concern would be it just might be a little warm to sleep on.

RE: Hospitality/Hotel management

With your experiance as a Nurse, have you considered Traveling Nurses. We met a couple in AZ a few years ago that did that and they loved it. Just a thought.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I'm sorry to hear this, wish I was east of Gary, I would have taken a leg. Richard, sometimes things don't go the way you would like, but you are well aware of that. What's important here is that Diamond has found her forever home and that she will have someone to love and someone who will love her. All of us should be happy that that one day you were drawn to her and saved her so that she could continue to love and be loved. God Bless you and Sue for all that you do.

RE: RV Service near Bisbee/Tombstone

SGTJoe: Thanks for that. I looked at both sites; look good. Hope they are still in business in March! I have bookmarked their site and will contact them when we get closer. Buy you a coffee or hot chocolate when we come through Utah with our newly repaired hot water system?!:) Thanks for the drink offer, but in two weeks we are out of here until mid-June. Will be in sunny and warm Yuma. Will be parked next to some great people we met last year from B.C., if you come that way stop in and celebrate St. Paddys Day with us, always a hoot.

RE: Mattress Replacement ??

Thanks for all the great responses. We will look into the Foam types and the Sleep Number bed. The Bed in the Box seems like a pretty good deal with their return policy. Also on TV we saw an add for the Sleep Number with "try it for x days". This is what we are interested in as what works for one may not work for another. Like the idea of try it or return it. Really thought I would get more positives on the Sleep by Numbers since that is about all you see in the RV's at the Dealers and Shows.

RE: RV Service near Bisbee/Tombstone

Can anyone recommend an RV service place near Bisbee? We will be crossing into the US at Douglas in March, need the water heater removed and the check valve replaced. We plan to spend a few days in the Bisbee area, but would really like our hot water shower back!:) Failing that, I guess we'll head to Tucson--who has a favourite RV service there? There is one close to Bisbee in Huachuca City http://www.rvcity.net/ They've got 3 excellent ratings in www.rvservicereviews.com. WARNING watch your speed as you drive through that town, they have a pretty aggressive traffic program due to the Military Base in Sierra Vista. Also, right behind RV City is a pretty nice RV park should you need it.

Mattress Replacement ??

Our queen mattress is approaching ten years old and we are thinking of replacing it soon. My question is what have you replaced your's with. We spend over 6 months a year in our MH and want a comfortable bed. What would you buy, Sleep By Numbers, Memory Foam or regular mattress? What's really comfortable?

RE: The old girl is back - where to start

Yep, this thread is what a lot of us old tinkerer's needed to get us going again. I'll be in Yuma in 2 weeks and going to tackle the floor with Allure and find out why my back clearance lights don't work. Maybe a 32" flat screen too. Thanks for the energy boost Steve and good luck on getting her going right.

RE: The RV alarm went off at 3AM

You really have to appreciate Texas, had the running thieves had the OP's property in hand he could have shot them as they run and been justified. A few recent incidents on this proved that. Now their PD is actually going to come and take prints, I'm impressed.

RE: Verizon Military Discount

I found out about the 15% discount a few months ago. I went to the local Verizon Store and asked for it. All I did was show them my Retired ID, no 214 was needed to get it. So, if you are retired just show your ID, if there are any Active Military, just show your ID.

RE: No electricity at Fishing Bridge this summer-2010

If you're not happy with the no elect there is a great rv Park in the town of West Yellostone called Grizzly, it's just outside the West Gate to the Park. Check it and others out at www.rvparkreview.com

RE: Help pipes keep freezing!!!!

When the temps are cold enough to freeze, it is time to fill the water tank and disconnect the water hose from the rv and from the water source, drain all the water from the hose. On your sewer hose, close the gray tank off and make sure there is no water left in the sewer hose, it will freeze and may break the hose.

RE: The old girl is back - where to start

I see you're getting a lot of good suggestions for more power, so thought I would offer one. Have you considered changing out the 454 with a 1996 Vortec 454 or even better if it would work and fit an 8.1 GM engine. Both are excellent engines, don't know the cost, but just thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

RE: Texas Crud

Haven't tried the lemon & honey since I was a little guy living with my folks. Great stuff from what I remember. There is something else that we have tried when the CRUDE first started and that is apple cider vinegar, it soothes the throat and helps with the cough, try it. Only a tablespoon every few hours worked for us. It can't hurt and you won't overdose and it also helps reduce chlorestral. It can be mixed with equal parts honey. Check it out on google, vinegar can be used on a lot of illness problems. There was a hot toddy that my Mom used to mix when we got real bad colds that worked too. But don't recall what all was in it.

RE: Motor home payments

When we bought our current DP, we had a choice, pay cash or pay off the S&B. We chose to pay the S&B off, that way if anything happened to me the wife has a home free and clear except for the dang property taxes. With regards to the MH "mortage", my trade in was paid off a few years earlier so it was the down payment. Do I like having a payment, NO, but with our retirement income we can afford it. We sure enjoy the DP over the gasser, even if we are making pymts. We do plan to pay it off as soon as we win the lottery or a Texas Holdem tournament.

RE: Louisiana to Las Vegas

That is the shortest way but as mentioned you could hit snow/ice in the high country. Another way, but longer would be to stay on I-10 to Yuma, take 95 from there North to Las Vegas. Shouldn't have any problems with snow or ice on that route.

RE: Happy Hour

I like the socializing part, but I don't drink Alcohol. If I'd continued to drink the way I did 22 years ago, I probably wouldn't have lived to see retirement. If someone declines an Alcoholic beverage, please don't push the issue. I enjoy the stories and lies heard, and told, amongst my fellow campers. On any given day, I can hold my own in the joke telling department--Sober! By the way, did you hear about.....? ***Friend of Bill W. Not a problem, I fully understand and respect that. If you see where I'm from you can see why. In fact we are going to GS's 11th birthday party in a little bit and SIL's folks will be there also, so out of respect we don't bring or drink alcohol, but we will have a great time. If you ever run across me at Happy Hour, I'll offer if I don't know you, and if you decline, you're still welcome to join in the hour or 2 or 3.
