RE: Should I establish residency before buying

There is a 3% sales tax on the difference between the traded in coach and the new one if the new one is more expensive. If you go the other way, there isn't. If you've paid a sales tax that is higher than SD you get credit, but probably no refund from the original state.
I actually live in SD and they are talking about raising the tax, and have already raised driv. license fees, so get it a bit cheaper while you can.

RE: brake buddy

When we had our MH our BB went out 3 months after the warranty expired. They sent us a loaner with a return postage sticker so we could send ours to them for repair at no cost. When it came back again we had a return postage sticker for their loaner. Great company.

RE: Headed to Lake Havasu......Need opinion!

Glad you had a good time. We used to live there. We hid on the holidays, then went to the lake the day afterwards...not a soul in sight!
I bet it was hot!

RE: Who makes good 5th wheels that are also really nice looking?

We have a Newmar Torrey Pine and altho' we no longer full time, you could full time/snowbird very easily in this one. Roomy, lots of storage and I like the floor plan. We've had very little trouble with it.

RE: Remembering Why I Snowbird

"Should have stayed south one more month !! " Old man winter doesn't know when to give up in the north country! We're south and west of you in South Dakota but we know not to put away the winter coats yet. May blizzards aren't out of the question.

RE: Anyone have a digital keyboard in fiver?

When we had our Class A diesel MH and full times we carried hubby's small, but full sized church organ with us. It would fit in this 5ver, but we've settled down and it is in the house. http://dakotawind.zenfolio.com/p713837289 Here is a link showing the organ going from the Alfa to the Country Coach.
If we could carry that a keyboard would sure be able to come along.

RE: Where's the Beef - er - Kitchen counter space?

I'm not sure of the logic. Huge coach, very little counter space, no pantry, but a dishwasher and residential refer. Ok, you can carry food in the refer, but where do you put it before with so little cupboards and little or no pantry? Yep, they say they don't cook.
Altho' Alfa is gone, they had ok counter space and a great pantry and storage. Our Country Coach was ok on the issues above, but some have me wondering. Our 5ver is pretty good too. But you couldn't beat the Alfa for pantry and storage.

South Dakota News

Here is some tidbits from the South Dakota legislature:
They tried to get the gas tax raised here, but it failed. Also they were proposing a rate hike in the registrations, but that failed too (which I'm surprised!) Give it time and they'll finally do it.
The tourist tax has been raised from 1% to 1 1/2% so I imagine camp ground fees will be going up.
The biggest hoopala is the proposed tax on methane emissions from the EPA which was started to control the emissions from industry, cars etc. If you who register here know anything about your home state, you know it is considered a rural state and our biggest industries are tourism, farming and cattle. So now some brilliant soul has decided that cattle emit too much methane gas and now they want to tax cow farts. Ok, how much gas do cows emit and how do you decide how much each cow should be taxed? As funny as it sounds, it would put a big strain on the cattle industry here.
On a good note, you now can do your registrations on line. You can access the site at: www.SDcars.org
Happy travels from a previous full timer (I miss the road, but love it here!)

RE: RV hobbies

When we full timed hubby had his small, but full sized church organ with us. We redid the inside of the coach to accommodate it. I had my computer, internet and do a lot of photography and Photo Shop.

RE: My Wife Has A Problem Reaching Pedals???

Hubby says he marrying someone taller in his next life...LOL
I'm 5' and can relate. I used a pad behind my back and found a block of wood, padded it with some carpet and strapped it to the excelerator. Also had a block of wood underneath my heel as well. When we got a coach with adjustable pedals, that helped, but not enough. I do this now with our big pick up.

RE: Locked Out..You Won't Believe This One..

That's good. Years ago a couple got locked out of their See Ya motorhome...the one that has the separate small trash can door. Everything was locked except that door. The wife was skinny enough to get through and unlock the entry door.
If it were me they would have been selling tickets to see me squeeze through that door and get stuck.
Glad all eventually worked out. We have our cats with us too and always make sure one of us has our keys hooked to a belt loop when we exit the truck.

RE: crazy driving

Always some person out there driving crazy to give the rest of the Class A drivers a bad rap.
When we had our big Class A's we stayed in the RH lane as much as possible, went between 55-65 depending on the road, conditions and what state we were in. I'm sure some wished we were going faster, but hey, it was my home and I wasn't going to wreck it. We always wore seat belts too and so did the kids. I have to admit I would get up to go to the potty but other than that, we were wearing our seat belts.
Sounds like it was an accident waiting to happen, then I bet he'd blame it on the other person. These big things don't stop on a dime!
