RE: Fingerlakes Lakes New York
If you need full hook-up, I would definitely stay at the Watkins Glen KOA. It is a little to the south from the majority of wineries and water but we have never had a bad stay there. If just electric is fine, Sampson State Park is good. A lot of old trails to bike on as well. We also enjoy Sampson. Cayuga State Park may have some full hook-ups, but they were always booked before we made reservations.
There are a ton of wineries and tours, multiple lakes for boating and fishing, dinner cruises on the lakes, etc. Really is a great area to live! :C
RE: What is the condition of I-81 through PA?
Thanks. Working on the details as to the route. If we elect to travel 15, we would hit the area around DC in the middle of the night or very early morning. I know I-81 from about New Milford to just north of Harrisburg was very rough last spring and a lot of construction around Scranton. Debating on adding miles to avoid the rougher road - about 20 miles to travel 15 through PA from NY - and then subtracting miles from our usual route by hitting DC. Of course, slowing down is always an option too!
Edited for spelling
What is the condition of I-81 through PA?
Making the run to Myrtle Beach in April. Our last trip, the road condition was very rough in places. What are conditions now? How are the other routes? FWIW - we usually run I-81 to I-66 to US-17 to I-95. Sometimes we hit US-15 to I270 and down. Thanks, Mike
RE: Gas vs Diesel
Wow! All these posts and not a single "study" for the OP. I have owned both a 6.0 gasser and a 6.6 diesel pulling the same 5'er. I enjoy traveling with the 5'er much more with the diesel - better power (I can travel with cruise control engaged the entire trip), better economy towing (11 vs 7 mpg), in essence, it is more enjoyable and less work. Yes, the diesel cost more to purchase. No, it does not cost a lot more to maintain. Yes, I get better economy normal driving (19 vs 13 mpg). Yes, diesel is currently more expensive than gas.
All said and done - I would purchase another diesel - IF my driving requirements remain the same. If yours are different, a diesel may not be the right choice - or a gas truck may not be adequate. Take all the information presented here with a grain of salt - a lot of irresponsible posts occur and misinformation is passed along as fact. Good luck, Mike.
RE: Would YOU Tow This Rig???
The weights you've given are above the GCWR, but below the other ratings. I would tow it. Speed is just as important to safety as weight, IMHO. Drive sensibly and you will have no more problems than if you were the 640 pounds lighter. Good luck, Mike
