RE: I'm a retired salesman

I was looking at a brand new 4Runner before I bought my '08 at the Toyota dealer that I get my service done at. The salesman I had was one of the pushiest I've dealt with (let's do the papers tonight, bring your trade tomorrow, we're open late!). He really didn't give me any time to contemplate a $36,000 purchase. We left that night he didn't hear another word from me. I appreciate that you're trying to do your job to the standards that are expected of you, but please be a little respectful to your customers.
When I went to look at my '08, it was a different experience. The salesman I dealt with was a lot more understanding and didn't push. He was the one who got the sale.

Odd Request

OK- just brought home a fantastic third vehicle to replace our falling apart VW Jetta. I found a pretty mint 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe LX (3.5L V6, 4WD) with 31,000 miles on it. Very happy with the deal and the vehicle and we're hoping it's more reliable transportation than the VW.
It didn't come with the factory rear headrests and I can't find them anywhere. Any advice on where to maybe pick some up? I'm thinking we may have to try a salvage yard?
Has anyone managed to find something like this?

RE: Kitty Litter ?

Kitty litter and charcoal in the PUP each winter. Probably doesn't help much, but I do it anyway.

RE: Is it that time of year again?

Oh I miss Nordic skiing (in northern Wisconsin, of course). You bring back the memories. I had one set of waxed and two sets of waxless. I actually enjoyed the waxed better, provided I put the right wax on. You do have a little more time, it seems, before pulling out camper.
I also have several pairs of nordic skis and when you get the wax right, the wax skis far out perform the waxless ones. If you get up this way in the winter check out our nordic skiing places Xskiing Laurel Highlands. Also check out Laurel Highlands for a great camping destination - Many interesting areas including whitewater, biking, history, architecture, etc.
The Laurel Highlands is a great place to explore! So many great things to see!! We went to Ohiopyle State Park last year and stayed in the Park's Kentuck Campgound; it was great. I would recommend it to anyone!

RE: Where are you going for your season opener?

Aunt and Uncle are getting their new seasonal Paradise Pointe fifth wheel delivered this coming Monday to Kozy Rest Kampground in Harrisville, PA, so I'm sure our first trip of the year will be there. River or lake front camping is planned for May before Memorial Day.

RE: Type of Tow vehicle

2008 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD with the 4.7L iForce V8 with just over 59,000 miles. Haven't towed the PUP with it yet, but I'm hoping that changes in the next week.

RE: Tossing Tacky Decor in TT

My present TT has blue cushions and curtains. I'm not overly happy with it I would prefer more neutral colors but, I can live with it. But, I have seen some TT that have a pink type interior decor. At least I don't have that. I couldn't live with pink.
Ouch! haha... I kind of have grown to like the pink in a "classic camping" tacky way

1988... Seems late 80's, early 90's pink was all the rage.
I've got the 90's pink in mine too...I'm ok with it for now...

RE: What do you think about this setup? (VW sedan & 5,000lbs)

I can't help but wonder...how much do all of these "upgrades" cost? I think the money would be better spent on a more adept TV...just sayin'.

RE: Is it that time of year again?

I think a lot of us in the colder areas are getting really anxious for warmer temps and going camping. Last weekend we had a brief warm-up and I drove from just east of Pittsburgh to Hancock, Md to ride my bicycle on the Western MD paved trail - Today I went x-skiing for a while. Still able to get out there, but at 75 yrs young I don't go nearly as fast as I used to. Meanwhile my campers are begging to be released from hibernation.

The anxiousness is setting in up in northwestern PA too...:E

RE: Got myself another 4Runner!!!

It's a 2008 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD with the 4.7L V8, which I may add, is as smooth as butter (I've never owned a V8 before!). It's rated to tow 7,000 lbs, which I won't even get close to with the PUP (who needs that 80% rule!!). It's got a little over 58k on the odometer and was "Toyota Certified".
Out of curiosity, what's your cargo carrying capacity on that 4runner?
(on edit: I ask because I'm trying to help figure out towing capacity for my in-laws and they have a V8 4runner, too.)
This will be listed on the sticker on the driver's side door sill, right?

RE: Got myself another 4Runner!!!

They're great vehicles, you should have many happy years with that. I still miss my '03 and '04. You won't even notice the pup when towing and will soon be thinking bigger trailer.....
I'm going to resist the temptation to upgrade for a few more years...

RE: 06 jayco feather M21 3 rear king slide?

My aunt and uncle have the 2007 213 model. The rear slide really opens up a lot of room in a smaller trailer. We have had at least 8 people inside at once and it didn't feel too cramped.
As far as quality goes, Jayco builds one of the best units out there for the money. They aren't perfect, but there are a lot of high quality touches and they back their products with a two year warranty.
I would say to go for it if it's the one that you want!! I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Jayco product.

Got myself another 4Runner!!!

Well, it wasn't an easy decision, but I left my house on Monday with my '99 4Runner and came back home in the evening with a shiny silver '08.
I had been tossing around the idea of finding a newer one with less miles and stumbled on this one. Stopped at the Honda dealer on our way to Pittsburgh to look at a couple of different options. Drove a Pilot there; it was nice, but pretty boring and little cheap on the inside. Liked the Ridgeline that I drove (leather, navigation, sunroof), but it was pretty hard to back up with that slanted bed (had to do an embarrassing three point turn in the parking lot).
Unfortunately, as soon as we started the 4Runner, I wanted to take it home with me. Did the normal song and dance when buying a new car, back and forth with numbers, financing options, etc. It ended up being a pretty good experience.
I have faith that it will be just as reliable and trustworthy and my old 4Runner was and look forward to many more years of happy ownership.
And I'll man up to it; I cried a little when we left my '99 at the dealership.
Pics to follow!

RE: What was your first car?

1998 Ford Escort LX- 2.0L Mazda sourced 4 cylinder, 4 speed auto, 4 doors in a very classy "Champagne Frost"...$750 worth of freedom. Bought it with 94,000 miles on it and ran it right up until the day I decided to turn it on its roof on my way to work. Somewhere around 142,000 on the clock when that happened.

RE: New Toyota Tundra in 2014

Apparently, the Toyota Tundra is going to be redesigned for the 2014 model year.
Until Toyota makes a one ton diesel crew dually the big three have nothing to worry about. Most of us don't have space shuttles to move from the side yard to the barn and any of the big three can also get groceries just like the Tundra.
Or until they build something that doesn't look like a turd.
Toyota as a TV... now that's funny right there.... :B
Hmmm...I think my Toyota TV looks pretty non-turdlike...

RE: Another scam on Craigslist

Unfortunately, there are too many scams on Cragislist. It's not just the sellers either; I always get a ton of bogus emails when I'm trying to sell something. Bottom line: if it's too good to be true, then it simply isn't true.

RE: Mid-Atlantic Beach Camping- Summer '13

Thanks for all of the great suggestions.
I'm definitely going to look more into Frontiertown. It sounds like a nice alternative that is close to the beach and has the waterpark for more entertainment.
OBX or Myrtle would be great, but that's a little further away than I wanted to go right now. Maybe in a couple of years when we all have more vacation time...
Also considering Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. It looks interesting as well.
