RE: Where Have You Taken Your 4x4 Dually Pickup & TC OffRoad

Great pictures.
This is what i like to know about TC's and Dually's off roading. The limits on where you can go, driving slowly and taking your time.

RE: Ford towing guide question for a F350 XL SC 6.7L 4X4 SRW

Another question about the F-350, as stated above.
Is it better to order from the Factory through a dealer built how you would want it to be, like the XL. Then you add the options you want in the base truck that, starts cheaper like the XL stated. You'll be waiting for a while, but that is alright with me as long as i get what i want and need.
A lot of truck and cars come to the lot with a lot of added options you may not want, or not even use. So natually the price goes up accordingly for something you may not want in the first place.
Thank you for your input.

RE: Ford towing guide question for a F350 XL SC 6.7L 4X4 SRW

My F350 has a sticker on the driver's door jamb with as-built payload listed. It is a separate sticker from the one with axle and tire info.
Thank You for the tip,
I'll check for the sepatate stcker from the one with the Tire and Axle Information.

RE: Ford towing guide question for a F350 XL SC 6.7L 4X4 SRW

While it is possible to order a 10,000 GVWR, you do NOT want it, because it will reduce the GVWR of the truck. You probably will not find one anyway. It would have to be a special order to get the 10,000 GVWR - probably only when you need the reduced GvWR for some reason, such as needing to park on a residential street.
The F-350 supercab should have a curb weight around 7,000 pounds, so it should have a 4,100 pound cargo rating - give or take a few hundred pounds. You can look at a couple of the dealer's F-350's and see what their curb weight is.
Good luck with the new truck!
Fred.
Thank You for the advice,
That is good that i do not need the 10,000 GVWR package. I'll be checking the curb weight.
Thanks,
Scott

Ford towing guide question for a F350 XL SC 6.7L 4X4 SRW

Good evening everyone, i don't know if this should be in the camper section section, so being a truck question here goes.
Researching and looking at the Hallmark Chuchara XL 9.5 full bed Popup camper for some off road camping, not extreme . It shows on the Hallmark site a Wet Weight of 2,850#, i am adding 800# just to be safe.
I am planning to own a Ford F-350 XL 6.7L SRW SC 4X4 4FX Off Road, the question is.
In the Ford Towing guide page for F-Series Pickup slide-in Camper it reads the following:
4X4 6.7L SRW Supercab wheel base 158.0" GVWR 11,100# Requires 10,000# GVWR Package option!, Ok that is fine. The Max Weight shown lists two Weights 2,869/1669 with option!. What do these two weights indicate combined weight= 4,538#, or am i reading it wrong.
Thank You for your input and it is appreciated.

RE: Gen. charging TC batts and using boonie AC power?

I never use that small cable thingy, they mostly junk. I just plug my into my gen with the umbilical cord, shore power. I don't charge my starting battery that way but I do use it to charge the other three battery's. If you run your genset and plug into the shore power cord you can run what ever 110 volt stuff you have, within reason.
This is for only charging the TC battery's correct. If you have an A/C you will probably have to run it only on low setting, and cut out some 110v Equipment, or not start the A/C at all. Just want to make sure for my own information.
Thanks,
Scott

RE: First Fifth-Wheel

I found a school parking lot to pratice my backing. They have large lots marked off for the buses and allowed me to try and put it between the lines over and over. It sure helped me.
Great Advice,
When i move will have to locate a school close by.
Thanks for the tip.

RE: 5er Newbie

I was reading Truck Camper magazine one day on measuring the tallest Pickup camper. A lot of pictures were shown and a lot of the owners had a height of the camper placard to the dashboard, in big letters. Think it is a good idea.

RE: Hallmark Pop-up Truck Campers

I have a hallmark guanella which is the 8' instead of the 9.5' (therefore lighter) and we do exaxtly what you are looking to do, light to moderate 4x4. In colorado that is a requirement to get to some really cool places to camp. We have no problem whatsoever, and we slept in minus 5 on multiple occasions this year with our 2 small kids and were just fine. I love my hallmark and am a huge fan and let everyone know it, they build campers like they use them themselves and are always making improvements that you would only notice by using them. People have their allegiances in the hallmark vs outfitter competition, come to colorado like you said and judge for yourself. Ask for randy at hallmark. 4 wheel campers are the lightest, but i believe you give up some of the comfort. We run a gmc 2500 duramax and love our combination.
Thank you for the reply and a referance to Randy. I am leaning toward the Hallmarks 9.5 Cuchara XL but i want to be sure. I also like the fact that the Cuchara has a Honda storage box that can be added to the back of the Camper listed on their option package page.

RE: Hallmark Pop-up Truck Campers

Thank You again for the replies.
After reviewing the 9.5 Apex Outfitter and the Hallmark 9.5 Cuchara. I will have Defiantly have schedule some vacation time to come back to the main Land and go to Colorado and check out both Companies. Its pretty close between them. Do any of you have the Honda EU 2000 Generator or the AC Polar cub. How about the Solar packages #1 or #2,and the Rhino Rack, Yakima or Thule rack system with the Cargo Box.
I'll let you all know when i will be in Colorado. Might be in a year or so. Planning is in progress. Talk with you all later.

RE: Hallmark Pop-up Truck Campers

Thank You For the Replies. Yes i am planning to get the Ford F-350 XLC CC 8'bed 4X off Road. Sorry I left that out of the first post. I will check out the Outfitter Apex and Four Wheel to make sure. My plan is make summer and fall camping at a week or two at a time, maybe a month out, with up to two people at the most. Starting in the Black Hills in SD into Wyomings BH Mountains. Wyoming could take the whole summer and fall by its self. Eventually all of the Western States. May take a few years just depends on how mush food, water I use. Gas will come into play on how far out i get. This is a few years out but that is why i am planning now for retirement.
I have also read that Yellowstone NP, you should have a hard sided camper. So might have to check on that.

Hallmark Pop-up Truck Campers

Hello everyone,
I have been researching Truck Campers and I have a question about the Hallmark Cuchara XL 9.5' camper. I would like to go off road and figure they would be a good fit with the low profile in the woods and hills. I am not an Extreme off roader just want to explore and dry camp, fishing included. They are rated for four seasons, but i don't think i would want to test 20 below in the Camper. Good or bad what do you thing.
Thank you for your inputs.

RE: Brand new to this, have a lot of questions

I've been researching for a year now still a ways to go. I have two tablets of notes i have been writing information into, maybe a book. Buy the trailer first after a lot of research. Then you can get the truck.
At Minimum Ford Heavy Duty F-250, Dodge Ram 2500, GMC Serra 2500, Chevy Siverado, may have to go up to the next level of trucks depending on the FW. All are good trucks its really up to your preference.
Good Luck,
Scott

RE: Too old to continue traveling ? Grown children urging ..

Keep doing what you love to do. I figure that if a person keeps active for as long as they possibly can. Then that increases your life (IMHO). You can plan keep traveling longer than if you go to a retirement home. You will know when the time to stop. Your children just trying to be helpfull, and that is very nice. My Aunt who lives up in Ridgeway Washington is 94 and still drives her car, and gets around pretty well. My plan is to retire at age 62 and plan on Rving for 10 years, after that we'll see.
Good luck, and happy trails.

RE: NuWa Inductries

Scott NuWa are great trailers and if you have the Young frame that is even a bigger plus. They are heavy and 17.5 rims and tires are much better on the larger ones. They still have service at the factory location.
Chris
Thanks Chris
My orginal plan was to try and find a 2-3 year old NuWa 30 FK or 327 LK. I will keep track online and see how it works out.
