RE: Brake controller install for an 2008 F-150 XLT questions

This is actually for an ATV trailer with brakes. Same concept, except he ordered it without the emergency stop mechanism (so does not have, and does not need the battery charging relay).
Here is an odd one. He did the hitch wiring last night. Tested to make sure all lights worked (it did). Left the trailer hooked up over night, and hooked up the controller today (got the wrong pig tail, so he had to buy a vehicle side harness and splice it with the one that comes with the P3). Once he got it all installed, he went to start the truck and the battery was dead. I asked if he left any lights on after testing the hitch wiring last night, and he said no. I asked if he left the key in over night, and he said no (though it should not make any difference, since he does not have the charge relay or a battery on the trailer).
When he jumped the truck and took it for a test drive, the trailer brakes worked as advertised.
I printed out the 7 pin pinout, and he is going to bring it over and I will check it all with a meter. Anyone have any idea how the trailer being hooked up could kill the battery over night with the key off?
Might just be coincidence. Here in Texas I normally get 5-6 years out of an automotive battery. So might just be time for a new battery (taking for granted he has not already had to change it).

RE: Seafoam, Who has used it, what Results?

Pretty common in the ATV world. Some guys run it in every tank. Others just run it when they are going to store awhile. Yet other run it if an ATV was not put up properly...it is supposed to clean up the gummed up fuel system pretty good.
No personal experience...I just ride my ATVs through winter, so I dont have to worry about them gumming up.

RE: LOAD RANGE E TIRES ON STOCK WHEELS ?

I put E rated tires on my F-150. It led to a noticable decrease in fuel economy. I run the front at 35PSI and the rear at 45 PSI.
I don't think I would go to E if I did it all over again.

RE: Towing with 5.4L Triton 3V

I tow with a 2010 4x4 with a 5.4. It has the middle set of gears (3.54?)...IE NOT max tow. It gets the job done. I don't try to beat any speed records, and normally just drive 60-65 MPH on the flats. I drove it from norcentex up to Denver and back. There were times I was driving 40-45 MPH going up the mountains...could have driven faster, but was passing semi tractors as it was...so I was happy with that. I get 6-9 MPG towing my 29 foot trailer. My guess is that it weighs about 6500 lbs with our stuff in it. I don't tow with more than a couple gallons of water in it.

RE: Brake controller install for an 2008 F-150 XLT questions

Thanks for the inputs. He ordered and received the p3.
He started reading something about needing a 40 amp self resetting breaker at etrailer. My understanding is that it should already have power (might need to add a fuse or relay) wired all the way back. This is correct right?

RE: Brake controller install for an 2008 F-150 XLT questions

Looking at the prodigy products online, the website I am looking at says the P2 has a "tri-axis accelerometer" and the P3 has a "single-axis accelerometer." This makes the P2 sound better...which is supposed to be better, the P2 or P3?

Brake controller install for an 2008 F-150 XLT questions

Buddy of mine has a 2008 F-150 XLT SCREW. His truck did not come with a full tow package. As such, he has since had a class IV receiver installed and my understanding is that it already had a 4 pin plug for the bumper.
He wishes to install a brake controller and 7 pin.
Question was brought up as to whether or not his truck is prewired for a brake controller. Does anyone know off hand if it is?
Any recommendation as to what brake controller to get?
Any he should stay away from?
Recommendation for where/how to mount the controller in the cab?
Any inputs on ANYTHING are appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean
