RE: KZ owner needs help!

I had a similar problem with my fridge, it appears there was a fair bit of air that had to be purged before it would ignite.
My water heater is at the rear of the trailer on the opposite side from all the other gas appliances. I have a feeling it would take 4-5 trys before it would work, I must try this at some point.

RE: Simple little mod.

My setup is a collapsable wheeled cart with 2 Reliance water containers ratchet strapped to it and a 120 volt pony pump. I can then wheel 2 full jugs close to the water inlet turn on the pump and empty each of the containers in about 2-3 minutes.
Works great, my shoulder reconstruction was yelling at me after a few runs of "carry the heavy container 300feet then lift and dump".
Next is to get a short piece of 1/2 inch copper pipe fitted on the end of the intake hose to make sucking up the water easier as just a plain piece of hose tends to curl a bit.

RE: Waxing Decals

Just did a "quick" wax of my whole unit, 4 hours later it is slick looking and "sexy".
Used meguires and just went over the decals. I use this on my cars and go over the decals on those and have never had a problem. They appear to be the same type of coloured vinyl.

RE: side to side leveling

I am afraid you can't get away from the tote of levelling stuff.
This last weekend the site we were at was so unlevel side to side that I ran out of blocks/etc. Just used a long piece of wood to dig a hole infront of each tire on the high side. Got everything more level than I thought possible. In addition the 2 holes for the tires worked like incredible chocks.....
Next purchase will be a couple of sets of the orange lego thingys!!!!

RE: Just a bit off

This was just one idea I was looking at.
I wanted an extra spare for safety, travelling on roads where service/repair may not be close by.
I thought this would help.
I distribute all of our stuff throughout the trailer on the floor with most of the heaviest stuff close to the center and the rest all around.

RE: LOOKING FOR TWO SLIDE TT - NO BUNKHOUSE

Spree 245 ks has what you are looking for but with two bunks in the front.
The bottom bunk flips up for storage and the top bunk is essentially just a big shelf which can be organized for storage with totes.
Works great for 2 adults or 2 adults and 1-2 kids.
Relatively light weight and has good features.

RE: Just a bit off

The "ballast" component is to optimize the tongue weight to my vehicle, hitch, and trailer weights.
I purchased one of the tongue weight measuring thingy's and found if I can keep the tongue weight to approx 690 to 720 lbs then everything tows really smooth.
More weight and my rear sags and i get too close to the max axel weights.
Less weight and the rear gets a bit squirrly.
Right now I use soft sided water containers in rubbermaid totes to adjust the tongue weight and weight balance of the trailer.

Just a bit off

I was hoping to be able to mount a second spare on my bumper for ballast and safety.
I contacted k-z and the rear bumper is designed to hold 100 lbs.
My current spare and holder is approx 55 lbs.
Add in the weight of the sewer hose and i would be appox 12-15 lbs over weight.
Oh well, I'll just have to bolt some tool boxes to the rear bumper for extra storage and ballast.

RE: Well, the wheels did not fall off!

My question is this:
What are accepted towing principals when on 2 lane highway. I am not going to risk my wife, child, dog, vehicle, and trailer to satisfy someone's need to waste gas and exceed the speed limit but I don't want to cause problems either.
You will probably make a LOT of those kind of friends until you get an ADEQUATE tow vehicle so you can drive normally and NOT become a rolling road block. In the MEAN time just do what you CAN do and be prepared for a lot of angry people because you apparently don't understand the principal of using turn outs to let traffic by. YOU may be on holiday but everyone ELSE is not. When driving below the speed limit pull over and let others by.
I am trying to be considerate and get some good information.
Please do not be condesending or degrading, that is not what I asked for. Yes I was below the speed limit for a very short period of time when going up a particularily steep and long climb.
I am not trying to be a road hog, that is why i am asking these questions.
I understand my tow vehicle is not optimal for some of you but until you give me the cash for a new one please be considerate and helpful.
Now let the flaming begin and don't hold the punches i really want to see how constructive and helpful people can be.

Keeping fresh water fresh

On our last trip the fresh water did not smell so fresh, especially the hot water. I just use the water for washing and brushing teeth, etc. Drinking water is brought from home (I just don't like the tasted of any other water). I have a feeling some critters were growing in the hot water tank in the 3 weeks from one trip to the next.
I should probably have sanitized and flushed the system prior to our newest trip.
A quick trip to W-Mart for a jug of bleach with sanitizing the system cured the smell.
I noticed the small container of "water freshener" on the shelf for $7. It said it was a sodium hypochlorite product.
I thought to myself why not just put a little bleach in the water when I fill up, it will keep the system clean and kill any bugs in the water I get at the camp ground.
Does anyone do this and how much do they use to keep the water "fresh"?

RE: Air tabs, does anyone use them

Did a few calculations and if they give me 4% fuel savings it will take 8-10 years to pay back their cost with my usual towing per year.
This is considering the optimal benefit. If it is less than 4% then I may be dead before they pay for themselves.

RE: Well, the wheels did not fall off!

Would only suggest, that if on a2 lane, and you are going under the posted speed, and have line of cars behind you. Pull over when safely possible, and let them go. A little courtesy goes a long way. Today on the Blue Ridge PKY. several motorcycles caught me. I just eased over, and let them go. Didn't hurt at all. And made my ride less stressful.
That is what I did, there are several passing sections about every 10-20km and when able I slowed down and let everyone pass.

Just looking at improving stability at higher speeds as well as reducing drag and fuel consumption.
Anyone have experience with these?
Here is the link.

Well, the wheels did not fall off!

We took our first big trip in our new Spree 245ks. Went to the weigh station, adjusted the WDH, all axel weights, GCVWR, etc all within the limits with some room to spare.
Blue lake ontario was our destination (blue means you can see your feet wiggle when in water up to your chest).
5 hours or so from home (Winnipeg Manitoba).
I did notice some concerns when driving and would like some input.
1) When towing in the past my truck loves to sit at about 80kph (50mph) for towing any trailer. Our hybrid was the same. On 4 lane divided highway I did not care what people think, I'm on holidays and there is an extra lane if you need it. Speed limit 100kph.
2) On this trip we had to make about half of the drive on 2 lane highway up and down some hills with lots of twists and turns in rain storms with some pretty good cross winds. I liked my 80kph speed but the long line of people made me speed up to 90kph or just a shade below depending on conditions. Speed limit 90kph.
3) When passing several cars honked and swerved at me agressively with kindly hand gestures. I have to admit that yes on some steeper and longer climbs I was unable to keep up to the posted speed limit without hammering my foot to the floor needlessly. Condidtions were not optimal for towing with periodic heavy rain and strong cross winds going up and down hills, in and out of cover.
4) In talking with a couple of seasoned rv'ers, with nicely set up rigs, this aggressive swerving is not uncommon. They gave me a few tips that helped me to get up the hills without flooring the vehicle and maintain speed better.
My question is this:
What are accepted towing principals when on 2 lane highway. I am not going to risk my wife, child, dog, vehicle, and trailer to satisfy someone's need to waste gas and exceed the speed limit but I don't want to cause problems either.

RE: First trip in Spree 245KS LX; Underbelly covering dragging

I have a 245ks as well.
I check the underbody regularily as I am concerned about something coming loose. No problems so far.
I agree the rear slide seems "wobbly" when going in and out but is solid when fully deployed or stored.
The side slide is the same.
I agree the bathroom is really small but I only use it for emergencies. We do use a stool under the feet when sitting on the toilet, as for some odd reason, it is really high.
We are taking our first really long road trip today. I will see how everything works out.
I have to admit I would like to see under the trailer to check out all the mechanicals, but I don't feel like taking the underbody apart.

RE: Combing grey water tanks

Just picked up my twist on waste valve to equalize my grey tank into my black tank..... Then when I want to dump I will get a little whoosh of grey, then dump the diluted black, then the full grey.

My Coleman-mach thermostat never really changed the fan speed when I put it to high or low....
I just wired my new one to the high fan setting, moves air really well and not much noise at all.

I have a kz spree 245ks with a rear slide and side slide and really love it.
Can't comment on reliability as we have only had it for about a month, but so far really good.
