RE: 12 Volt Outlets

One table top location I use one of these USB CELL PHONE type receptacles to be able to charge cell phones etc which is pretty neat... http://assets.bluesea.com/images/products/1016.jpg height=200 Where did you get the dual USB outlet?

RE: 12 Volt Outlets

I went so far as to install a 12v outlet on each side of the bed so my wife and I can charge our phones at night. On the dash I use a GPS and a second charger for my phone while driving. I do have a 300 watt inverter, but it is hard wired on its own circuit. It runs the laptop while driving if the kids want to use it.

RE: PayPal DOES Stand Behind The Buyer.

I have used Paypal for over 12 years and have a separate checking (business) account just for Paypal. And I have a merchant account and a Paypal Business Debit card. The cash back I get every month more than pays for the monthly fee for the checking account. I like using my paypal debit card as I not only get a % back, but I get an email on my phone within a minute or two of making a transaction. I have also had some issues in the past and was backed up by Paypal. Now that they are starting to offer an actual credit card, maybe their status as a "non-bank" will eventually change.

RE: Sprint mobile broadband?

I have Sprint and my phone is capable of being a Hotspot for up to 5 devices. The bad part is Sprint charges $29/mo extra for this service. Since I do not full time yet, I did not choose this option. I purchased PDANet only to find Sprint blocks it in their phones. I did not feel like jailbreaking my phone. Instead, I picked up a ReadyBroadband prepaid dongle on closeout 2 years ago for $20 and get 1gb data for $45 (online or at Walgreens). Worked great on our first trip. On our last trip, my kids found out Netflix worked... ran out of data on the morning of the last day. next trip, I plan on blocking it in the Cradlepoint router I have.

RE: Low priced leds, fast shipping

It worked for me. Go back to the original post, the quoted post did not change. Thanks, that was my mistake...

Your first link for the 10 pack does not work. Thank you , I fixed it. "The following critical errors have occurred: Sorry, you are neither the buyer nor the seller for this transaction. Only the buyer or the seller can access this page." Only you can access that link.

RE: Low priced leds, fast shipping

The 48 LED panels I originally bought are no longer sold with that seller and I needed some for a project I am doing so I order a 10 pack from this seller. 48 LED panels 10 for $17,99 shipped i ordered them on the 19th of March and got them on the 4th of April. The packaging and panel look nearly identical, they appear to be just as bright and a bit warmer in color but not enough to make a real difference. I also ordered a 120 LED cob light for the porch. clicky This is much brighter than the incandescent bulb that was in the porch light, Well worth the $13 for two shipped. Your first link for the 10 pack does not work.

RE: Grillen Time.

For me it would be simple, the Weber has a cast iron grill that will hold enough heat to sear. There are a lot of grills and they will all cook meat, but without the heavy grill it's hard to get a chunk of meat right. I also travel with a Weber. I have a Q220 and a hose to hook up to the RV as I had an adapter installed just for this. I love cooking on charcoal, but I have been in places where getting rid of the ashes was a problem. The cast iron grate makes up for most of the lack of charcoal but I miss the flavor sometimes. I also purchased one of those reversible griddles for doing hotcakes on as well as vegetables on the ribbed side. At home, all charcoal and I have 11 Weber grills and smokers in all. As someone else stated, Weber has hands down the best customer support of any BBQ maker. 24/7 and here in the USA. Most of their products are made here too. Only the cheap gassers sold at Walmart are made in China (the Spirit line).

RE: Ham Radio instead of CB

Now I wish I bought the dual band mobile. I know what you mean. When I lived down there the 440 repeaters were easier to get on but up here 2m is almost all we have. The few 440 repeaters are hardly used. I have a dual band in the RV and in the house and a 2m in the mini-van I drive all the time. And then the dual band HT for when I take my wife's car or whatever. You will soon have a collection of radios, just like the rest of us ;)

RE: Refrig temp

Call David Force at RV Cooling Unit Warehouse and get one of the Amish-made cooling units! Your problems will be over plus you won't ever have to worry about becoming a "crispy critter"! :B I purchased a new cooling unit from the same guy and highly recommend him! But if you unit is new, I would turn it colder and watch it. With an RV fridge, you need to learn to open the door less often and do not put warm items in. try your best to put items that are already cold into your fridge.

RE: HP Inkjet printer ink rip-off

The new Brother laser printer I purchased last summer replaced an OLD HP Laserjet 5mp I purchased in 1994. The printer actually still worked, but it could no longer print PDF files due to not enough memory (thanks to Adobe updating Acrobat...). I got $50 trade in for it at Staples, the new printer was on sale and I had a $50 off coupon. I doubt I will get 17+ years out of the new one.

RE: A walk down memory lane

I met my wife at 300 baud! Anybody remember Boardwatch Magazine? Yep. Jack Rickard and One BBSCon, too. I started a BBS in 1991 when I moved to this small town and missed the one I left in So Cal. Boardwatch was my favorite magazine and I regret throwing them all away. I loved going to the conventions! I eventually turned my BBS into a small ISP and then sold it years later, but unfortunately after the dot bomb... My first computer was a Timex Sinclair kit I built. I have been building my own since then. I put one in the dash of the RV and tell all my friends I have a 31' mobile PC!

RE: HP Inkjet printer ink rip-off

I get my HP ink after market from meritline.com as well as toner for my Brother all in one (MFC-7860DW). My laser printer sees >90% of all my printing as I usually do not need color. Once my HP color dies ($39 at Walgreens...), the wireless Kodak is probably what I will replace it with.

RE: Which Batteries?

I looked up those batteries and my RV could not handle them for both weight and size. The ratings are impressive, but how are you going to hold 2-6 batteries that weigh over 100 lbs each?! That said, I will stick with my Costco golf cart batteries.

RE: Which Batteries?

I purchased the 6 volt golf cart batteries from Costco and have been very happy with them.

RE: working from the motorhome = workamping??

What network does Mellenicom use? They do not have a coverage map on their website and not having one is kind of useless to us travelers...

RE: Ham Radio instead of CB

This has been a great thread, we are in the research process at the moment. One of the requirements in the coach is the ability to to install my ham gear. We want to be fulltimers in 2020, so I have a few years, to collect equipment and build antennas. Just a small warning, it is a constant and ongoing process ;) I often joke about my 31' computer case and mobile ham shack.

RE: Ham Radio instead of CB

Got the FT 1900r today. Already installed the radio and hooked up the coax. Tried hooking power to engine battery but you is only putting out 11.3 volts. I put engine battery on charger. Will make permanent connection tomorrow and run some tests. How do you guys have yours connected engine or house batteries? Sounds like me when I got started. Just went and purchased a bunch of stuff and never regretted it. I have my radio and PC hooked to the house batteries. To keep the engine battery charged, I use a Trik-L-Start. I do not like having a dead engine battery...

RE: Ham Radio instead of CB

Really, only twice a year? We have them every other weekend with 250yesterday locations in my immediate area of LA. Have you checked out the Good Sam Hams ShutterStuff? I'm surprised they haven't chimmed in. When I say small town, I am talking a population of about 19,000. Even at twice a year, there are probably 6 people at each class. I could drive to Bremerton, 90 minutes away, as they have classes monthly but I work full time and have teenagers involved in music and swimming. Weekends are full! I could probably bribe the local VE's into testing me as i am known around here for my BBQ...

RE: Ham Radio instead of CB

Found a Good Sam Ham Club online for So Cal, but their frequencies are above what my HT can handle and I'm not sure if a General or Extra license is needed. Will just stay with 2 meter for now. I have been a tech for over 20 years now and last year went to my first Field day. I am now waiting for the club to hold their next testing session (small town, small club and they only do this twice per year...). I have been slowly setting up an HF station at home and am already planning an HF radio for the RV. I would encourage you (and anyone else thinking about it) to visit your local clubs Field Day setup this June 22nd-23rd. Ask for the GOTA (Get on the Air) tent and try your hand at making contacts. You do not need a license to try the GOTA. This is set up for first time people and Hams that have not been on the HF bands for more than 6 months.
