RE: Jayco or KZ

Had both a KZ spree and a Jayco Jay feather. Both had a 2 year warranty, wouldn't steer you away from either since both were relatively good quality. In our case the we had less issues from the KZ. And the KZ dealer service was far superior in our area.

RE: hotwater tank pops loudly

Since its brand new my guess you have some blockage between the gas flow and the igniter. I had a similar issue where the unit was shipped with an extra little mounting bracket loose in chamber. That little bracket lodged between the gas feed and the spark igniter. When enough gas build up and hit the igniter and the mini explosion occurred. My POS dealer never found it. I decided to take it apart and it was right there plain as day.
Could be nests or something else but that's where I would start. If there is no blockage it's a fault valve or regulator.

RE: 2001 F150 Supercrew Towing

I have an 2005 with the same motor and rear. It was a good match with our 5500# TT loaded. It struggled on mountain grades with our current TT about 6500# loaded so we retired it from mountain grades. If you keep the TT less than 5500# or don't plan to use it in the mountains, I think you'd be fine.

RE: how long for delivery of new rv

In June 2009 we ordered a KZ Spree told us 6-8 weeks took almost 11 weeks.
We order our current Shadow Cruiser in May 2011 took exactly 5 weeks from the day we ordered it.

RE: Replacing Window/Frame in Entry Door

I HOPE YOU DIDN'T INSTALL THE GLASS FROM LOWES! (Unless it was maybe laminated glass!) Besides being illegal, it's NOT safe. .........
Well if it is illegal I guess I should sue the builder and ankmar garage doors because the OG glass wasn't tempered. If it wasn't for the film I put on it would have fallen out in large peices.
Anyway point taken, thanks for your thoughts.

RE: Have you used it this year

We did 15 trips this year at an average 3 nights per trip. Considering its Nov 1st and 70 degrees here in Denver I could have gotten in at least 2 or 3 more. We put the TT into hibernation to early this year.

RE: Replacing Window/Frame in Entry Door

I haven't had to replace our TT door window but early last spring the wind blew out 4 windows in my garage door at home. Checked around at local glass companies and got quotes north of $300 on cut to fit glass. My HD didn't do glass, walked into Lowes gave the guy my dims and a couple hours later went back in and it was waiting for me. At check out the price was just under $50 bux. The only thing is the glass isn't as thick as what the glass shops quoted but for the price difference I didn't care.
On the TT I'd really look into the plexi, lowes stocked some real thick sheets, I think it would be better for R-Value and security over the thin plain glass they carry in stock. You could always by the opaque film to put on it.

RE: Cruiser Flooring issues

We have the 260 unit so similar but not the same as yours. We have a lot of creeks and squeaks in front of the dinette area. It will "pop" quite drastically every so often, so much you can feel it in your feet. I haven’t noticed any seam movement in the plywood decking when it happens so I was thinking its more a missed placed screw that slips. We documented it with our issues list last year and our dealer did nothing about it.
We even had the entire flooring replaced front to back due to several issues with screws being too long and damaging the flooring. I asked the dealer to investigate it further while the decking was exposed. They said they did but I'm doubtful since it didn't improve. Someday I may try to fix it myself but that would involve dropping the holding tanks so I'm not anxious to dig in to that project.
I would be interested to hear anything you find out on the topic though. So keep me posted.

RE: Gassers... Please Post your Experience

1) 2012 Tundra Crew Max Limitied/Platinum 5.7 engine, 4.3 rear, 6 speed
2) TT 2012 Shadow Cruiser 260bhs ~6300# ready to camp
3) combined ave 17.5 mpg
4) Deepends drastically on the trip/route, average ~10-11ish, could be lower than 8mpg on one trip and as high as 14mpg on another trip.
5) Perfect match! easliy pulls everything I've tossed at it in Colorado with power to spare.

RE: Need new tires ALREADY!

Lippert covered the cost on mine, cruiser will tell you they are not under rated. Technically true, they are not under rated. Look under any Cruiser RV product (or other lightweight brand FWIW) 6500-7800# GVWR, you'll probably see dual 3500# axles. Those other models/brands don't have the widespread issues as the Shadow Cruiser. There was some defect with these, I've been told its bad tires, bad steel, improper initial camber or some combination thereof.
I feared the new axles might be to HD for the application and start wearing on the outside. I have just over 800 miles on mine since the swap out. So far (knock on wood) no measurable wear.

RE: shower drains into 11 gal. black tank!

Yep, they have been doing that since 2007 on these models. snip.....
Its been the design since the 165 was introduced back in 2003/2004, I had a 2005 and back then I knew a couple guys with 2004 that were plumbed this way. I thought they finally changed it but I guess not.

RE: Need new tires ALREADY!

I've seen it mentioned to consider upgrading to Maxxis. Is this the one most are using/recommending? ST215/75/14 D rating (1870 lbs @ 50 psi)
What is the new model of the replacement axles being used and what size is found there? Is it another Lippert replacement?
Wish you the best, seems like several more are joining this club every week.
My 3500# axles were replaced with 5200# made by Lippert. I can tell you they look like tree trucks compared to the 3500# twigs. I used load C tires in the stock size, I didn't know if the upsize would work on the stock rim/clearance. Most of my travels are within 200 miles or less and load C still left me some room so I felt confortable. If I did long distance traveling I probably would have tried the up size.

Carlisle Tires are also what Lippert agreed to install on mine, I just decided to spend a little more and pay the diff between Carlisle and Maxxis. So anyone going through this don't accept anything less.

RE: Keystone Outback Feature Question

I use my OS for hot water to clean off my BBQ before I pack it away. Also use it once and awhile to wash the dog, but can really only do that when we're parked on a conc or asph pad. otherwise it defeats the purpose. Still don't think not having one would be a deal breaker for me though.

RE: Battery dies quickly

I usually get about 3 days out of my battery dry camping. Thats with the frig and water pump on and using lights only when necessary. If we use the heater very much its more like 2 days. I always plug it into the house for at least 24 hours before we go to make sure its as close to fully charged as possible. I have the same TT as the OP and there isn't much extra to draw 12V power (like tank heaters etc.)
I'd say either you didn't start with a fully charged battery, your radio was on real silent, the front storage compartment light or porch light was on and didn't notice. Maybe even the signal booster on the antenna was switched on. I guess one other thing I do to conserve power is I leave the truck running and connected when I use the slide or power awning.

RE: Need new tires ALREADY!

The dealer told me that Lippert was sending new axles that still had 3500 on the label but were really 5200. I questioned why something would say 3500 from the factory when they really are 5200.
I will be able to see if there is a difference. What do you guys recommend for a 205/75/14 D LOAD tire.
Who did you speak with at Lippert or Cruiser ? as i am having a tuff time getting answers out of anyone and would like to speak with whomever you did. Now i am having the same issues but my 1 year manufactured warranty is up and my Extended warranty thinks it is an alignment issue but is clearly not the dealer has replaced 30 units already this summer.
Thanks for any help that would be great
I believe the standard lippert axle warranty is 2 years
http://www.lippertcomponents.com/OwnersManuals/Trailer-Axle/8-3-10-Trailer%20Axle-Web.pdf
I don't know if they carry that over to manuf installed products or not (most Dometic products don't) but I can tell you I had better response to my issue from Lippert directly than from Cruiser. I can email or pm you the guy I talked with at cruiser but in all honesty he was friendly but not much help.
I never had a direct contact with lippert I used their warranty email warranty@lci1.com they were great just very slow to respond. Average responce time about 3 days. Lippert told me they will work with any service center that will work with them so you don't need to go back to the dealer.
I would start with a friendly inquiry to Lippert. I also think you should have some grounds to fight the extended warranty but I don't have experience with that.

RE: 2011 Shadow Cruiser Axles

Hope all shakes out for you,
I strongly recommend anyone with a Shadow Cruiser check your tire wear frequently. I have yet to hear one of these 260 or 280 models going for more than 2500 miles without some extreme tire wear. There are at least 8 different people on this forum that had/have issues. Cruiser really needs to setup here before someone gets hurt. I'm thinking about filing a report with NHTSA.
Edit;
I retract the above Thrasher has more than 2500, I stand by the rest.

RE: Vinyl propane tank covers

I think there are hard tank covers which have a top door for access.
Yep they do but they're just as easy to access by lifting the whole thing off as it is to mess with the finger nuts that hold the top door closed.
I don't know about that, maybe if it were screwed together and not riveted like mine was. The one that came on my trailer fit the 30# tanks to sung (and too close to the tn jack) and buy the end of last season the bottom 3 rivets on both sides broke away. I picked up a plastic cover with top access door on sale at CW over the winter and I like it much better. Just my opinion

RE: City fill, Antifreeze hand Pump?

Thanks all, our pump is kind of a pain to access and we might have the same problem as Jim. There isn't much in-line length to install the additional valve and Tee without relocating the pump. I like that garden sprayer idea from Terry. I have an old sprayer I don't use and several old hoses I could cut to length.
For those that did it, did you go through a water pressure regulator into the system or just pump directly in?
