RE: Pictures of our seasonal lot

Opie we are from Bellwvue too! Small world!
Looks like a nice seasonal. Lots of good places over here on this side of the state. We usually head down towards Coldwater, Potawatamie Recreational area is nice and fairly big sites. Waffle Farm is nice, on the north chain of lakes, kinda small sights. We just got our trailer a few years ago so still lots to discover here in the great state of Michigan.

RE: New Guy with 2010 Ford Exp.

I don't have the "HD" package and haul a 30' trailer weighing 8000lbs with my 2007. I bought a 7 pole harness and mounted it under the hitch. The blue wire under there is your brake controller. Simple electrical work. Don't quote me but I believe you have the same Trans cooler as the "HD" package. I know mine does. I have towed in 100 degree heat and temp never gets hot.

RE: Shopping for 1st Tow Vehicle - questions....

I will answer the OP question.
You dont need a 2500 (3/4 ton) truck to pull that trailer for weekend trips. Drive the both of them and see what you like better. Looking at the Chevy 1500 you can always veer over to the Tahoe/Suburban comparable to the Armada.
If you are like me i bought a 7000lb trailer, didnt want a truck (needed the 3rd row of an SUV) and vehicle was going to be wifes daily driver. She drove an Excursion and hated it, wouldnt fit in our garage or her parking garage at work. So we bought a 2007 Expedition EL. Works perfect for us. Sure i wont pull every grade in the country, but i didnt buy it for that.
Everyone on here will tell you that you need all the power you can get to pull the lightest load, they make new trucks every day so if you were to get a heavier trailer, you can get a new...bigger truck. That GM 5.3 or Nissan V-8 will work perfect.

RE: Towing with 2012 Ford Expedition

Towing just about the same weight and length trailer with a. 2007 EL Expedition. Use an Equalizer hitch of which I spent a lot of time perfecting its set up. I have no issues with towing in and around Michigan, I drive 60-65 and get about 8-9 mpg. Sway is a non issue and I can hold my speed on any freeway and no trouble stopping. So far about 10k miles on this set up and haven't exploded any drivetrain parts and frame hasn't broken in half. Set up your hitch as it is very critical to get the weight off the tongue as much as possible and the front to its factory height.
Have you taken you rig to the scales?
No I have not. I am sure I am right on the edge of what the manufacturer rates it for. I am comfortable towing it, my wife has driven it for several hours at times. If it was overloaded I still wouldn't switch tow vehicles.

RE: New Vehicle & New Trailer - Can I tow this question...

I am towing a 31 footer weighing over 8,000lbs with a 2007 Expedition El 4x4. I have zero trouble with that trailer with a finely set up Equalizer hitch. Sure I am "overweight" of what ford recommends...but it is very comfortable tow and handles it just fine.
Wow......that's great advice :R .
OP, Skid809 has solved the whole issue, as long as you're comfortable that's all that counts. Don't worry about those silly things that Ford gives you like tow ratings, tongue weight limits, RAWR and GVWR, just git-er-done......yeeeeeeee-hawwww.
To say it can be done comfortably, yes. Heck my wife even drives once in awhile and has no trouble, and somehow the expedition has not broken in half yet after 6,000 miles towing this set up.

Sure I am "overweight" of what ford recommends...but it is very comfortable tow and handles it just fine. I have towed the same trailer with a 2001 F150 "7700" and the expedition is a far superior tow vehicle to the "hd" f150. Wife drove one excursion and hated it...said it felt to clunky and it wouldn't even fit in the garage. So for what it's wort...YES it will tow it safely, get 8mph loaded and 16-19 unloaded, we needed the 3rd row and this was what we ended up with.

RE: Advice on purchasing a used Expedition

didn't realize that about the production line, eric james. Useful info!
And Skid809: You'd go for the EL Eddie Bauer even with the higher mileage (16K miles over the same year XLT)? I mean, I'm a sucker for amenities but hard to argue with an extra year's worth of mileage in my pocket. Any particular reason to go with the higher trim line other than amenities?
Keep looking! But look for an El. I found several and looked for weeks and had to drive 3 hours (to Chicago area) to buy ours. I like the amenities, but I could live without them. I would rather have the length than all the goodies if I had to choose.

RE: Advice on purchasing a used Expedition

Go with the El. We have an 07 Eddie Bauer and love it...Wife drives to work daily and gets about 18mpg mixed driving. We pull a 31ft 7500lb trailer all over Michigan and have no problems with it. The 6 speed over the old 4 speed makes a huge difference ( parents have an 05). Fold flat rear seats are a plus. We paid 20,500 for our 07 two years ago with 50k on it from a dealer...apparently we stole it!

RE: Looking at a keystone, Laredo

I am over 7500 loaded with a 2007 El expedition. Sure it won't win any races. I have had no trouble with my 31 footer in any conditions. Trans stays right at 190 all day even in temps near 100 and feels stable. Even with 4 kids aged from 2to 7 in the back seats. If the expedition had an ecoboost you all would say he was ok...

RE: Champion 3500 acting up

I just picked one of these units up on the 4th of July and loved it for the first 16 hours of run time in this 100+ degree Michigan heat...only to have it stall every 20 seconds. Turns out it has a faulty (black wire near the oil sensor) and they are sending out 2 new ones ASAP. Besides that it runs my 15k a/c and everything else perfectly.
