RE: WW 4005 FTL - New A/C's - need suggestions...

I agree with Bryan about the air flow from the A/C unit to the duct work. There is a way to improve this flow with a small simple modification.
By taking off the plastic grill on the Ceiling off the A/C unit and using a flash light to peer inside... Look for any holes around the frame of the A/C Unit. Use metal foil duct tape to seal any leaks that allow air to flow from either the intake side or the exhaust side of the A/C.
Next, look at the metal wall that is between the Intake Side and the Exhaust side. This might be held in place with double side foam tape. If there is a gap that allows air to flow between these two areas, it will need to be sealed with the Foil Tape.
You said when you open the Quick Cool... you get plenty of Cold Air.
Next look at the discharge side of the A/C unit. Air is blown out of the Unit with a fan... that air blows down and it must then make a hard 90 degree turn to each side of the RV to go into the Duct work that runs in the ceiling.
Look for any rough edges, air leaks as well as any possible blockages. By using the foil tape, smooth out the connection between the duct and the A/C Unit.
You can build a diverter that will allow the air being blown out of the A/C unit to smoothly travel to duct connection. This would be shaped in the form of a Tent. By building a Tri-angle directly below the discharging air flow (above the plastic quick vent), it will allow the air to be guided to each of the Duct connections. Making this should really improve the Air Flow to the ceiling vents.
I also opened the last ceiling vent on each duct run and put a block just past the opening. Doing this prevented any leaks past that location in the duct work. I couldn't trust that the duct was sealed well on the ends. I wanted to prevent any cold air going to the Attic and not into the living space below.

RE: What is considered proper bracing for 2nd A/C ?

I agree the frame should support the weight of the A/C unit on the roof.
Question I have...
Do you plan on using both A/C units at the same time? With a 50 Amp rated cable and circiut breaker box you should have no problem. But if you RV has only a 30 Amp set up, running both as well as any other electrical uses may pull more power than a 30 Amp system can offer.

RE: Frig roof vent cover...

Plastic Scraper for caulking on rubber roof. Scrap away the old caulk from the plastic fridge cover first. Once your able to pry off the vent, then work the caulk from the rubber roof. Remember the rubber roof is much like the rubber inner tube. It Stretches quite a bit before it would ever tear. When re-caulking the new vent cover, use self leveling caulk that is made for a rubber roof.

RE: RV Parks and Storage in Little Rock, Arkansas

I've not stayed at this park yet but it is in North Little Rock.
DownTown Riverside RV Park
This park is small, they offer discounts and wouldn't it be neat to sit on the river edge watching the water traffic float by.

RE: Solar Controller Safety?-(was " Sliding Out the Fridge" )

I ran the wires down from the Solar panels with out moving the Fridge. There is plenty of room behind there. They just need to keep the wires on the other side the Gas Vent stack.

RE: What material anode rod to get for my water heater

They are both designed to do the job. What's important is that they be changed often enough so there is no damage to the tank itself. The Anode Rod is sacrificial and ment to deteriorate. Far less costly to replace yearly than to purchase a new Hot Water Heater.

RE: Filling Fresh Water Holding Tank

Often times the Vent hose that runs from the fresh water tank to the fill port hangs down in a few places. This traps water in the low spots. When you fill the tank, the trapped water in the small vent line causes the tank to build back pressure which makes the water push back. The fill port is larger than the vent line (which is blocked by water in the low places) so place for the pressure to be released is back up the fill pipe.
Two methods may help prevent this from happening. One is to blow out the vent line, clearing the standing water from the low spots. OR try cutting the male hose fitting end off a short maybe 5 or 6 foot section of hose, then run the length of hose down into the fill pipe, as much as you can. Fill the tank slowly with the hose deep in the fill pipe... which will allow air to pass back up along the side of the hose... to vent the tank.

RE: new FT ers looking for best maildrop, reg and ins company

South Dakota here as well. We've been full time for more than 5 years and have used My Home Address for our Mail forwarding company. They are located in Emery SD.
My Home Address
As already stated you need to compare the different states for the best that will fit your requirments. Keep in mind that if you continue your full time lifestyle your going to need to renew your drivers licsence. SD does NOT at this time allow you to do this through the mail. Driver Licsense gets renewed on or up to 180 days before your birth day.

RE: Louisiana State parks near N'orlens recommendations?

We stayed 4 days at Bayou Segnett State park in early November of this year. I too would recomend the location. You can do an on line Reservation.
The park has full hook up... has Free Washer/dryers... The sites are large... Satellite dish TV will worked well in about any site. Restrooms are average for a state park... As far as being safe... the rangers patrol the park through out the day and night.
There is a Free Ferry that takes you across the River... dropping you off at the River Walk area which was across the street from Harrahs Casino. There is a tourist trolly to do site seeing... and of course... there is always the French Quarter !
Have a great time, Marv

RE: A/C Freeze sensor problem

OK.... Freeze sensor could be laying along the side of the Unit. Remove the grill cover... using a flash light aimed at the coil above the electrical box... it should be a small round sensor attached to the third coil down from the top. if its not there... reach along the side edges... feeling for the sensor... it has two wired going to it... and it should have a wire clip that slips between the fins of the coil.
While your looking up there take a look at the sheet metal wall that seperates the intake air (above the filter area) from the discharge air. This sheet metal wall might be held in place with double sided tape. It may have shifted down and could have an open gap allowing the cold dischared A/C air to flow back into the intake side... this Mixing of the cold air with the warm moist air could cause the coils to freeze. The two sides need to be seperated... and free of any leaks between them.

RE: Trailair Center-Point Problem

If you locate a leak at a fitting on TrailAir Centerpoint System... the fitings are designed so you can disconnect the plastic hose. Use a spray bottle of soap water to locate any leaks in the system... when it's pressured up.
You will need to bleed off the air pressure to be able to disconnect the plastic hoses from any of the fittings.
Where the plastic hose goes into the fitting there is a small Ring that is lose... sort of able to spin around the plastic hose. Push the small ring in or towards the fitting... with the metal ring pushed in... pull the plastic hose out of the fitting.
The Plastic hose MUST be cut true and square... it seals inside the fittings with a "O" ring... any burr or slight off square cut of the plastic end can cause it to leak.

RE: ATTENTION: Arizona,Florida,New Mexico and other Snowbirders

We are trying Rockport/Fulton Texas this winter. We have had few good days in the mid 70's so far.... but more in the 60's. This week (12/16/09) it's been rain and cold with plenty of wind yesterday. Warm returns next Monday.
I should have guessed... but I'm finding more over cast days than I thought would happen. We'll give it one more month...
