RE: Hearing aid delivery, Canada to Lo de Marcos - CAN YOU HELP?

Lester, I find it hard to believe no one is coming your way. You could try contacting Carol at la Penita and asking her? I am sure she has stuff sent down from BC. I have her email if you need it, just PM me.

RE: we lost a dear friend....xnorp

I have known George for almost 10 years, stayed at his home in Ione, WA, even. I am shocked beyond words. I knew he was ill, he sent me an email about 4 weeks ago telling me all about it, and how he was optimistic. I never expected this. RIP George, you were one of a kind. You will be sorely missed.

RE: Sonoyta Crossing Owner/Pet Database

I take a lot of those containers of benefull wet food across each year. They are in my trailer. They have never asked and I have never offered. Now you have 2 kitties to hassle with, Ray.

RE: Culican to Mazatlan toll road

I'm a little confused, Culican is a long way north of Mazatlan and i am sure it is not bypassing all that existing toll road south through Celestino. Are you referring to the new section of toll road bypassing Mazatlan that they were constructing last year to tie in with the new toll road from Durango. That would be where highway 15D ended at the junction with hwy 15 coming down from Culican. In other words are you referring to a connection between the green sections in the image below? If so, that is good news. http://www.vancouver.hm/temp/mazatlan.gif

RE: Lukeville vs Nogales crossing

I would go south at Nogales. Your chances of having a paperwork hassle are less at that crossing, although you may be held up a bit longer. It does have 2 advantages, a Wal Mart on the US side to stay in and the fact you can easily make San Carlos by dark if your cross at 7:30 AM.

RE: Caravan to lo de marco

Harry, You will get all sorts of advice here including scare tactics, etc. There is no guaranty of safety, but then again there is no guaranty in the US as well. You might want to try a commercial caravan, first time, if you really feel nervous. As far as I know, there has never been a safety incident on any of them. There are several down Baja and one or 2 down both the west & east coast. However you do it, I would recommend the west coast first time. The east coast is a bit dicier right now. Once you have done it once, you should probably find you feel less nervous. The paperwork can be daunting the first time as well and you need to drive a bit more different than in the US, especially if you have a large rig. Physical road hazards are present that you do not find on this side of the border. I have a fair bit of info on these things, you can PM me your phone number if you want to talk. I can probably put your mind at ease somewhat.

RE: Satellite TV

Shaw works well down into southern Mexico, Dish & Direct do not, so Shaw definitely has the widest coverage.

RE: USLD workaround

Apparently its a particle filter bypass & module to fool the computer into thinking it is still there. I will PM you their webpage. i am not sure it is strictly legal (in this province anyway), so I am not going to post in on an open forum

RE: Dogs crossing the boarder

You only need a letter from the vet on his letterhead, rules have eased a bit over last year, they have dropped the 10 day old certificate regulation. I would still ensure it is recent. The only place I have heard of anyone being asked, is the Lukeville crossing so I would consider Nogales instead for southbound. here are the new regs pets
