RE: Doing the Distillery tours in Kentucky

I visited Wild Turkey and took the tour. They didn't give you a taste of their whiskey when you were done, wanted you to buy the various brands they make, so I won't go back.

RE: Just bought first RV and concerned it hasnt been winterized

My BIL bought a used TT and met us in Rockport Texas during the winter. He hooked up the power and water for the first test and water began running out from the under neath. We discovered the trailer had not been winterized and the water froze inside the hot water heater causing it to rupture. He called the mobile repairman and $750 later he had a new water heater.

RE: Indian Pow Wow

We attended a pow Wow put on by the Warrior Society, American Vets with Indian Ancestry, a few years back and loved it. It was at the Indian Center in Witchata, KS. The singing and dancing was a trip back into history. During the half time break the host tribe put on a feed and everyone in the place was fed, a pow wow tradition. I was very impressed and I want to attend another one.

RE: Help with Trip Plans

I like to research RV Parks on RVPARKREVIEWS.COM for each day. I figure I can drive anywhere between 300 and 500 miles so I look at the best parks along the way and write them down in a notebook. When we decide where we will stop I call ahead and see if they have a spot. Never had a problem. But researching the parks first saves you grom going into a bad spot.

RE: Sturgis Rally 2013

I've heard The Buffalo Chip is the happening place to camp. Someone told me there were women who ran around naked for the entire week. I think the outlaw biker gangs love it. Take along some chain and a switch blade knife and make sure you know how to use it.

RE: San Antonio River Walk + Alamo?

We stayed at the Hyatt a few years ago over Christmas. We did everything and had a ball. The people everywhere we went were very friendly. Treat the wife to some music at the Mexican Market over dinner. I made a ton of points doing it.

RE: Mail Forwarding service

We are away for the same amount of time. We use the mail forwarding at the post office. They send it out every Wednesday. Its expensive but less trouble in the long run. If you have a change of plans you simply call your local postmaster and tell him what to do. With the other services its a lot of stop and start and In my opinion prone to errors. It means changing an address back and forth.

RE: Nice Campgrounds Close To Mountain Home Ark

There is another nice park below Norfork Dam that is right along the river. It is a few miles away but a great park.

RE: things to do in Austin

Too bad you will not be there for the undies Run. Everyone takes off their clothes and runs in their undies. The clothes are given to the homeless.
I second the LBJ Museum.
Also, find out from the locals where the best Mexican Eateries are and go.

RE: What inspired you to start RVing?

The foreign ownership of the Motels promped me to avoid these dumps and sleep in my own DNA. The new breed of motel owners (for the most part) doesn't keep up the rooms or buildings. With my RV I'm always at home sleeping under clean sheets.

RE: Full-time RVing as a alternative to apartment rental?

I just returned from a trip to Idaho in our travel trailer. We stayed a month at a rate of $340 and had to pay another $20 for electricity. It was very hot and we used the A/C a lot. The trailer park was full of R/vs with Idaho Tags. These people are living on the cheap and seem very comfortable. Some of them had very nice rigs and some were not that nice. All of them seemed happy. The park was clean and had all the amenities. I think I could live like that and not feel deprived. I believe they are saving money. Some of the people took jobs in the park and didn't have to pay the fees.

RE: What Brand Has A Long Queen or King Bed.

I shopped for a tt a few years ago and at that time the only ones I could find with the long queen were the Fun Finder and Sunset Trail. I bought a Sunset Trail 27RB and love it. I would not consider anything with the short queen. I can't figure out why any TT Mfgr. would build a unit with a short bed.

Best quality 30 amp plug for a TT.

My sealed factory 30 amp plug got hot and gave up so I put on an emergency replacement plug from Home Depot. It doesn't look like the best of quality, only $10. It already shows signs of weakness on one leg. I am looking for a 30 amp plug where it has metal clips that smash down on the braided wires rather that a screw alone that makes the contact.

RE: Fuel Stops

I'll tell you what bugs me are people who take up prine outside pumps, the ones towers love, and spend excessive time inside loitering. I have no problem with people making pit stops to use the toilet but remember the others who need to fill up. If you need to spend a long period inside, please move your vehicle out of the way.

RE: Ever heard a moaning metal sound from your WD bars?

The first time I heard it I stopped and inspected the inside of my trailer to make sure a couple wasn't inside having some kind of hanky panky. Now I just live with it. I do lube up things a little and it seems to be less.

RE: Beware Michigan State Parks

That was a rip off. Some time ago a similar thing happened to us when we were stopping for the night in a Louisana State Park. We didn't have a reservation and there were many open spaces. We had to pay the reservation fee anyway to some outfit that didn't do anything. Corruption is alive and well in America.

Tires for my Travel Trailer, Sunset Trail 27 RB

I just took a 4,000 mile trip to Idaho and my tires are starting to wear. I bought the trailer in 2008 (new) and have taken numerous trips with it. One tire was badly worn on the inside so I switched it out with the new spare. The stock tires are Mission, 14".
My tire sources are limited here in town. Wal Mart has Good Year Marathons in my size for $116 Ea. My local tire dealer at the service station can get a number of knock offs for around $85. He said the best tire of the bunch was a Carlisle for around $115, EA.
I looked at Tire Rack and they only carry two trailer brands from what I can see, Kuhmo and Good Year Marathons. The shipping on the Marathons would put them in the same ball park as Wally World.
I've read previous posts and they talk about Maxis but where do you find them?

RE: Two questions, unhooking truck power and 30 amp plugs?

Thank you for all the good advice. I will follow it. My neighbor from down the road, and electrical engineer, stopped by and I showed him the plug. He said the first thing I should do is replace my plug with something of higher quality. He prefers the kind where a metal tab pushes down on the stranded wire rather than the screw alone smashing the wires. The breaker shut off prior to hooking and unhooking is another procedure I'll follow.
