RE: Your Rig

Yes it is nice & lots of room to ramble around, but then again it is our home 24/7 for 365 per year. I am jealous of the fuel economy the rest of you get, and there are some parks I cannot get into. Over all though I love it! Wow great Rig ... I know how you feel about not getting into certain parks, we had to give up some of the also.

RE: Best brands/models of toy haulers

We love our Newmar X-Air. Got it in August of last year and haven't had any major problems with it. Little problems were dealt with quickly by a local dealer. Things were shipped by Newmar if we needed them very quickly.

RE: Curry Hammock SP Florida Site 14 Question

As a volunteer and host there since Curry opened in 2005, I don't believe you will be able leave the truck in front of the fiver. Also the rear of the RV cannot extend beyond the markers defining the campsite. Parking a second vehicle at the campsite is not an option. redrover98 Is the pad for the camper 60 ft long or is the complete campsite 60 ft long? It does look wide enough to park 2 vehicles next to each other and the reservation site says that you can have 2 vehicles.

RE: Curry Hammock SP Florida Site 14 Question

Here's a photo of an empty site 14 in the foreground. Our 40' Phaeton and navy blue Jeep are just behind the empty site. This should give you an idea of the space available. Here's a photo with an Allegro Bus in site 14. Here you can see head-on how much room there is side to side. Hope this helps! Dennis and Cindy Henderson fulltiming, currently at Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys Thanks for the info ... I was looking and I guess you were in site 12 and that shows as a 45 ft site and you said your rig was 40 and there was still room to park in front. With 14 being 60 ft long I should be able to park the truck in front of it. Thanks for the pictures they give a good idea of what the park looks like. We are looking forward to spending Christmas down there this year.

Curry Hammock SP Florida Site 14 Question

Has anyone ever camped in Site 14 at Curry Hammock? I'm trying to find out if we will be able to bring a second vehicle with us. The campground is closed at this time and I can't get any information besides what's available on line. The reservation site states that it is a 60 ft site and has parking for 2 vehicles. Sometimes campgrounds measure the "spot" for the RV and post that and other times they measure the whole site. Since we have never been there we don't know. Our 5th wheel is 42 feet long and our truck is 22 feet long. I need to find out if the truck can be parked in front of the camper and an Excursion be parked next to it. I would appreciate any info or any pictures someone might have of that site. Thanks Michelle

RE: Putting the baby to bed for the winter.... Sigh

Started prepping ours for the Thanksgiving trip. After that we have our Christmas trip to Florida. Just don't sit still long enough to winterize. :p Hey, Boiledcrabs, we were in Baton Rouge for July 4th. It was 105 degrees. I bet you never see snow there, egh? Where are you going in FL for Christmas? We are going to Curry Hamock in the keys ....

RE: Freightliner M2 Owners - Name this switch

We have the same switch and it turns on the LED lights in the back on the top up on the light bar. The come on by themselves when you put the truck in reverse, but you can use the switch to turn them on at any time. They are great for hitching up in the dark.

RE: Toyhauler's in winter Fuzion Blizzard Package?

How much better are double pane windows than the standard windows in Cold weather. Much better. One of the things I love the most is that they don't fog up the way regular windows do.

RE: Toyhauler's in winter Fuzion Blizzard Package?

Does anyone have an opinion of the Newmar X-Aire toyhaulers? We love our Newmar X-Air ... it is very well insulated. Yes it is much easier to tow with a MDT then it would be with a F-350.

RE: Is this the answer to the "My 2500's overloaded" blues.

That is a very nice Toy Hauler, but IMHO the only answer to your overloaded blues will be to get a new truck. We had the same question with our F350 Dually a couple of years ago and you can see the answer we came up with in our profile picture :B

RE: Your Rig

Thanks SportchassisRV , Believe it or not I am not sure how I set that up I just started moving stuff around and clicking??? DW also has an Excursion except it is an 01 V-10...Joe Well however you did it .. it looks great. We also used to have a F350 dually and it was a 2001 and loved it. Sold it a couple of years ago and replaced it with the Freightliner. We love the Excursion it's our second one the last one was a 2002 V-8.

RE: Post photos of your toyhauler

Thanks, and no, I don't back it up with the Jeep on. And I pull the Jeep because there are 2 quads in the garage as well as a BBQ and a gas powerd pressure washer, chain saw ect. WOW!!!! What a set-up ... it looks great. Congratulations on such a good looking combo.

RE: MDT VS LDT

I have an 05 Escalade sportster. I usually have 1 or 2 MC's in the back. With water and everything I"m usually between 21-22K weight. I had a 99 Ford PSD F450 crew cab 26k gcvwr with pickup Bed conversion on it. 90 Gal's fuel. truck was 9k +-. Built for towing. 4:88 gears. I bought the truck with 21k miles. I had Trans work done to make it bullet proof, turbo work, all sorts of cooling items for trans, engine, oil etc. Truck pulled it no problem. Power wise. Brakes Ok. Seat of the pants feel (and I used to pull 40 foot lowboys with heavy equipment), I hated it. I was always nervous in mtns. My wife could see it on my face sometimes. I was wearing the truck out at 58k miles. I live in the mtns of AZ now. I was also over weight with my rig all the time. dumped $10k to make it right for pulling this trailer. My wife and I bought an 07 FL M2 from Mtn Masters in Jan. 08. Best purchase I have ever made. It is the most comfortable and easy truck to drive. Air seats, air cab, air suspension, air hitch. The escalade has Moore ride suspension. Everything works like it is supposed to. Your mileage will vary a little. I have the cat 300 with Allison 3000 with 4:10 gears. I get 10-11 mpg pulling trailer at 65 mph running 1500 RPM. 15-16 empty. Your rear end gears will vary the mpg also. you don't have to worry about EGT's etc. The truck monitors itself for all that. If I had it to do all over, especially if purchasing in this economy, I would look for a used one. Especially because the 08-09's get bad mileage due to new designs for clean air. Lot's of them out there. Don't forget that they are all over the country and you can fly and pick one up if you want. One other thing to consider and this was a big selling point for us. You will go through 2-3 LDT's in the lifetime of the trailer compared to 1 MDT. The MDT will keep it's resale value up while the LDt's will be worn out and just dont' keep resale values as well. Especially if you buy something right now with economy the way it is. I can't say enough about getting an MDT with the equip. that are on them. You'll never be able to get a LDT that compares to the MDT. The fact is that you have a big trailer and it needs to have a good tow Vehicle to pull it safely and correctly. Good luck with your decision. Mil T http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt347/Mil-T101/truck%20and%20trailer/DSCN3301.jpg I love your set-up .... and I agree with everything that you say about the MDT ... we went from a F 350 to the FL Sportchassis a couple of years ago and we would never go back.

RE: Ramp porch supports - Installation complete

What a great job. Hopefully we can get done on ours too. Would love to be able to have the back open and be able to use the door as a porch. Thanks for the detailed pictures.

RE: freightliner sportchassis questions

We have a 2007 Sportchassis with a 330 MBM and we love it. We used to have a F 350 and the difference is amazing. The ride is smooth. Our Toy hauler weighs in at about 20000 lbs and it tows it like it's not even back there. The turning radius is great and we can make turns that we wouldn't have even thought about making in the F 350. All in all yes it is an expensive truck, but it is worth every penny you spend. The safety factor alone makes is worth it.
