RE: TC Refrigerator advice

Thanks for the suggestions. I still think this new fridge may be wonky b/c it's only 80's degrees here and none of my other (3) TT refrigerators ever had this problem.

RE: TC Refrigerator advice

It's a 2013 brand new TC. I've never paid much attention to the refrigerator advice on here b/c mine have always been ice cold :) Now I'm racking my brain trying to remember what people have said in the past...

TC Refrigerator advice

I have always had larger RV fridges in my TT. Got the new TC home and turned on the 2.0 c.f. Dometic on electric. It doesn't have a freezer just refrigerator. No door shelves - very basic small RV refrigerator. After a few hours it was 40ish degrees. But by the next day it had warmed up to 56 degrees! Is this normal for these small units? I have no food in yet, just trying it all out. My TT Dometic would stay cold for days before I loaded it with food. Granted it's been hot here (80's) but this thing is way too warm to keep food safely. Is it b/c it's empty? As I type this I wonder if DH turned it down as low as it can go? The temp. control slide is located on the outside of the TC in the exterior control panel. I've also never had one that I had to light from the outside before.... not sure how I like this one.

RE: Maps with counties and/or cities & Interstates

I have found the maps shown. But I was wondering if there were any that had the major cities or interstates printed. Many people have mentioned "get maps with counties" but then I can't find any maps with the details we need as travelers. I have printed the ones mentioned but wanted to find the detailed ones...

Maps with counties and/or cities & Interstates

With all the horrible weather related fatalities happening right now where do I get a map of the US listing the counties? I have found some online maps, but they don't list the major cities or interstates. Not much help when I'm trying to figure out the weather alerts on the radio. I'd like to either buy an atlas or if you can give me a website I'll print them individually if needed. Thanks.

RE: Why a roof inspection is important

Not sure how it would hold up against hot embers, but I am following the new release of Rhino Eco Coat RV Roof coating. It came out last year and I would be interested in seeing how people like it after a few years. I am crossing my fingers that it lasts like they say it will... and that a dealer will be coming onboard on the East Coast soon.

RE: "Pocket Hose" reviewed on Consumer Reports

No one is saying to use it for drinking water. Most people were just interested in carrying it as a regular hose for washing, filling the dogs dish, etc. I personally don't need an extra hose but some people here do and had asked about it.

I seem to remember someone in the past asked about these hoses. I found this today and thought it might be helpful. Click Here! Moderator note: fixed link

RE: Overnight near I70 - Eagle - Grand Junction

Overnight parking used to be a HUGE no-no on the East Coast. But on our last trip we noticed all of the rest areas were full by early evening with truckers. We took a chance and found a spot for a 4-5hr. nap (at a rest stop) and had no problem... I was told it has something to do with the new trucking rules about mandatory stopping for rest. I'll be interested to see if this is true nationwide when we head west this summer. I was amazed that I'd see tractor trailers just stopped on the shoulder of the interstate with running lights on - obviously just sleeping and not broken down. We just couldn't get over it since that used to be off limits. And the rest stops were full 1/4 on the shoulder going in and 1/4 mile on the shoulder exiting. And all the places had big signs proclaiming NO Overnight Parking!

RE: Must See Suggestions: St. Louis, MO to Sioux Falls, SD

It seems like the front desk of the Casino Queen gave me the wrong info. I specifically asked 2 months ago andwas told no kids in either the cg or the restaurant! I re-planned my route based on that apparently incorecct advice. Grrrrr. You'd think the front desk would know the correct answer.

RE: West bound trip & need advice

Quick update. I called 2 months ago and was told no kids in either restaurant or the CG. But now others are saying that there IS a playground and kids are allowed at CG. Just not in restaurant. Grrrrr. I re-planned my trip based on what the front desk said 2 months ago!

RE: ST LOUIS TRIP

Really??? I called (2 months ago) and they told me no kids in either the campground or the casino (obviously). I spoke directly to the front desk at the casino and they said sorry no kids on the grounds! I re-planned my vacation based on what they told me. Grrrrr. I asked based on another forum that had grandkids and were not allowed to stay at the campground.

RE: Must See Suggestions: St. Louis, MO to Sioux Falls, SD

St. Louis seems a popular topic. Just an FYI for families with kids.... Casino Queen doesn't allow kids in the campground or their restaurant. I wanted to stay there this summer for an overnight to see the Arch and I'm glad I saw this info on another forum or we would have been in for a nasty surprise after a long day of driving.

RE: West bound trip & need advice

St Louis - I liked the Casino Queen RV park. Right across the river from the Arch. For me the Tetons were a great place to take a few pictures. I stayed 2 nights in the RV park near the lake, and honestly would have traded those 2 nights for 2 more in Yellowstone. I stayed at Mt Rushmore KOA, it was OK. Rafter J Bar ranch would probably be my choice now. Casino Queen won't work if you have kids. I nearly stayed there this summer for an overnight before we saw the Arch, but they have a NO KID policy in the campground and restaurant.

RE: ST LOUIS TRIP

Just remember it's for adults only. I nearly made the mistake of stopping there for an overnight while on a summer vacation. I'm glad I checked b/c they don't even let kids in the campground. I thought maybe it would be OK for the CG only (and DH could get some take-out from the casino). NO kids period in CG or the attached restaurant. We are not casino people so we were unaware of this rule.

RE: Can we talk about LIMA BEANS, please

we like the canned lima bean and corn succotash. yummy. main thing, limas need to be thoroughly cooked and cooked with ham or bacon for flavor. I'd be scared that those nasty beans would ruin a perfectly good piece of bacon :) LOL Safer to stick with deviled eggs;):B The only good lima is a dead lima... Sorry OP, I really shouldn't add impolite remarks unless I can help you... My opinion of limas isn't relevant to your question and it should be obvious that I can't help you. Hope you find a good brand of lima beans to enjoy (shudder).

RE: Is our summer trip out West too ambitious?

I always read this blog: http://www.cross-country-trips.com/ It's about a couple from NJ with a Lazy Dayz motorhome and their summer road trips around the US and Canada with their 2 young boys. Not everyone's idea of a good time, but she gives VERY detailed descriptions and maps/routes. It's a good read about what might work and not work for you family. And some people here would just say "OMG, are you kidding? That's what they find fun??" But they obviously had a great time and made great memories. Some people can (and like) interstate dashes to try and see a little smidgen of a lot of things. They then can go back later and explore more. And some people would be more happy with a relaxed 2 lane blacktop-type trip with numerous multiple day stops. YMMV. Enjoy it however you decide to go :)

RE: Deviled Egg Recipes

I use The Joy of Cooking recipe: 4 hard boiled eggs add to yolks: 2 Tbls. mayo 2 tsp. minced fresh herbs - parsley, chives, tarragon, basil - I like parsley 1-2 tsp. Dijon mustard to taste - we also like yellow mustard 1 tsp. vinegar (any kind) 1/8 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 1/8 tsp. pepper I also use a stick blender to puree the filling. The two secrets are the Worcestershire sauce and the vinegar. And piping the puree (I just use a zip loc bag with the corner cut). And I love the fresh herbs. It makes it look very appetizing when you have the green parsley mixed into the yellow egg.
