RE: half ton tow vehicle

I tow a larger trailer than that with my 1500 5.3 Auto. It tows fine for me here in the flatlands and the hills of east Texas going to the local lakes but I don't get in a hurry.
A long steep mountain grade and I'd likley be down into 1st gear and going pretty slow by the time I got to the top.
Are you triple towing a boat in that sig pic?

RE: half ton tow vehicle

We tow a 26ft keystone 2670bh with a 07 Tahoe. 5.3 with a 7700 lb capacity. The trailer is 5500 empty and we load it good. Around 6500 loaded. It works good. we go through some hills in Wisconsin and it does good. I did have to install an aftermarket trans cooler with built in fan because of the heat we have been having. Now on last trip at 70mph trans temp stayed right at 205 and under.

RE: Tranny Cooler

I just got done mounting an auxiliary trans cooler. Still need to wire up the fan. This will far out cool any other trans cooler that you can mount on a truck. I mounted it on the skid plate and drilled holes in it to help move air through it. Also put steel mesh between it and the cooler to prevent rocks from damaging cooler. Will put it to the test this weekend.

RE: High mileage tow vehicle, Good idea or bad?

If the truck has a good track record of not breaking and all maintenance is been done I have no problem taking it. Whats to say that your new truck wont break down? New trucks break. Older stuff has far less to go wrong too.
Also a good point that was brought up. Paid off truck breaks and you have to pay $1k to fix. Newer used (out of warranty) truck breaks. Now you have a repair bill and truck note to pay. I have a 92 ford f350 that is paid off. 160k+ miles and needs some work. But still cheaper than a new F350.

RE: Satellite

I do all the time. I have a spare dish with a collapsible tripod. I set it up when I get there. Got real good that anywhere I go I can almost set it down and have it aimed first time.

RE: Any idea how to bring a Golf cart along while puling my TT?

Would the Idaho Tote be considered triple towing? It does not pivot so I wonder what the legalities of that would be? Pricey but would solve the bringing a golf cart with when pulling with a SUV.

RE: Hitch Mirror?

Back up cam for the win. You can pick up a pretty cheap unit at orielly's or Autozone and mount it to the plate frame. Makes hook up a breeze.

RE: Yes another LED mod

Ill try and remember to snap a pic later at night when its real dark. We just used it this past weekend where there are no lights anywhere. It lights up under the awning real nice. No blinding light. It attracts bugs like any other light, but plus side is it attracts then away from the door. Unlike that little yellow light right by the door that invites them in.

RE: Temps up, how cool can you get inside?

Our camper sat out in the direct sun for a 5 day camp trip this past weekend. Outside temp of 95 most days. AC set on low speed and almost full cold setting. It was a meat locker in there. Ours is ducted AC.

RE: Master bedroom/bed size questions

What do you sleep on at home? If your home mattress is a queen, then I see no problem. But if it is a king and you are used to a king, then don't sacrifice. You will regret it. BTW many trailers have a king bed option.
Haha not true. We sleep on a queen at home. Camper has a queen also. Its queen wide but not queen long. My feet hang off the bottom off to the side as the partition is there in the way.

RE: Yes another LED mod

I just placed an order. I like the idea of running the wire down the fridge vent. Do the coils or any part of the fridge get too hot for the wire? I'm afraid the wire could get burned up. You just need to keep it away from the vent pipe that runs up and out of the roof.

RE: Ok ...Please help a girl understand ...

113' WB is not that short, not compared to Tahoe for example. Grand Cherokee sized, not Liberty.
Thank you I stand corrected. I did a brief search on specs but couldn't find that. I have passed one in my Tahoe and they just seem small to me.

RE: Tranny Cooler

You probably wont find a dealer that knows how to put one on because the dealer does not offer an aftermarket cooler. You will have to get one from an aftermarket supplier like jegs, summitracing and tap into the trans cooler lines and mount it in front of the radiator.

RE: Ok ...Please help a girl understand ...

The LR3 is a small SUV. Similar in size to a jeep liberty. I wouldn't want to tow something over 5000lbs or any length over 20 ft with that. Wheel base is very short. You can certainly find a TT that it will tow just have to keep looking.

RE: Yes another LED mod

Biggest issue with this will be keeping the connector from corroding when not in use as it will be exposed to rain when rolled up. I just put male/female spade terminals on mine and figure if it corrodes up in a year or 2 Ill just clip off the old and put on new ones. Could probably spray them with wd40 or something to help protect them.

RE: Yes another LED mod

Yes its some sticky stuff. Plus with it being rolled up in the awning its always held in place when not in use. I will know a little more after this weekend when we use it and its gonna be hot. Also they dont weigh much so there is not much to hold up. Just clean the awning tube good with some alcohol before sticking it to it.

RE: Yes another LED mod

12 volt. They roll up into the awning. They are smooth and only about 1/8" thick. I have a wire that I have to disconnect before rolling up the awning. Only 2 connectors.
Should be like these
Waterproof led strip lights
I bought these over 6 months ago. Mine have a 3M backing on them so made it easy to apply. They come in many colors or even ones you can change the colors or make them dance colors.

Yes another LED mod

So I have had these LED outdoor strip lights sitting in the garage for a while now and thought I would put them to use. They are a flexible waterproof strip that I bought off ebay. I stuck them to the awning tube aimed the same direction as the awning its self. So the light illuminates off the canvas.

They really do light up under the awning real nice. This was taken at dusk. I cant wait to see how they light up at night.
