RE: Is a 28 foot TH too much for a 2013 F150 with 5.0 V8?

A bit off the subject but last week I was reading a ad on ebay for a 3 axle 40+ ft TH. Trailer is 3/4 ton towable. They must put those 3 6000 lb axles on for show.
I wonder when one of these will crash involving a lawyer, can u say class action.....

RE: What did you do to your Toy Hauler today???

Installed the new propane detector and while at the RV store bought a keyless entry lock. I will post pics when I install them. I hate hiding keys when we go riding and leave the trailer unattended.

RE: Supplies for your Toy Hauler/Trailer

We have the trailer pretty stocked. Some of the things not mentioned. Lawn chairs folding tables lantern trash bags. the Ipod adapter wire and chargers. cleaning supplies a small vacuum. Tools to work on the toys plus the stuff that goes with them. Even a spare quad flag for the person that loses or forgets. Rain gear. We now have a rule that something must come off the trailer if something new is added. We have a check list for pre and make notes about the thrip like we need a .... or the campground sucked or these site are better. BTW we have the TV stoked with stuff it could need as well. In my younger days beer and doritos would cut it as supplies and forage for the rest

RE: First trip and need new tires

I thought the tires that came from the factory were to only get your new trailer home. Just like a condom, single use only. Then you buy the correct tires and get rid of the temporaries......

RE: 2012 Dutchman Voltage Review

I wonder I have also seen the new trailers that come to the dealer 95% complete or ready to deliver. Why would they pay a dealer 75-100 bucks a hour to fix stuff they could have a 15 dollar a hour guy to fix.
I still say I have looked at all of the "production" rv's and trailers They are all built the same. They use the absolute minimum quality everything companant and materials. Add mediocre workmanship and we see what the end result is.
By the way I have built my own using Rv and home depot parts and drug around for 2 years without 1 8 cent screw falling out. The secret is to hit a stud not 1/8'' masonite to hang a cabinet.
I still have my raptor. It looks pretty and has started to not have stuff fall off every trip. I dont care anymore cause I am resigned to figure this is what it is. Live with it or buy something else.

RE: Toy Hauler Information Overload! HELP!

I think the structural part of the work and play's are better/stronger than the mass produced TH. The interiors are still the same low level rv stuff as everyone else. Look on Racing junk and a good number of trailer mfg are doing some nice stuff. I would guess that a race trailer or a custom TH like spacecraft offers is going to be in the 100-120 range. Cha freakin ching ! Also pirate 4x4 has a forum section that has a hauler/trailer build section. Some interesting ideas. Be prepared as that site slings the insults so put ur teflan undies.....
Thanks!
We hit about 25 or so annually so if you don't mind... what brands are you talking about in terms of "serious race trailer"?
We have a Raptor and its been pretty good so far. We do the Dirtbike and quad thing and it works for us. It does sleep a butt load of people. Quality is a bit subjective. Since you guys race and are used to stuff failing/breaking than a RV is right up your ally. IMHO if you go to the local races and camp a mainstream TH should be ok. If you are racing 30 or more weekends a year than u may be disappointed. A more serious race trailer may be in order.

RE: IS any one listening???

I have commented on this many times before. If they spent 10% more on better parts these thing would be far better than today. Just like the 16'' china bombs i switched out to 17.5's. Added a battery and so on. They keep raising prices so so it will be close enough that a spacecraft or new horizon would not be much of a stretch. I too have thought to build my own (again) for the next trailer. I have a Raptor 3912. I do understand 1 problem is that most of these will be to heavy for a 1 ton and maybe even a decked out 550 or 5500. Its allready close to whats safe as it is but thats for another thread.

RE: Does your garage start smelling like fumes?

I think the problem likely one of the toys is leaking fuel or a vent tube check ball is allowing vapor to leak.

RE: Planning to Toy Haul Full Time - Looking for Advice

This has come up on a few other threads. Some have the opinion that the mass produced TH may not be up to snuff for full time use. A lot are pointed to New horizon or space craft, basically custom built models. If you are going to full time in a mass produced brand make sure the insulation and dual pane windows are installed. 2 AC's are also a must. Not to start a wizzing match but also a late model dually diesel with exhaust brake, possibly a MDT or HDT. We take our TH and use it as a camper as well. Roll out the carpet zip in the bug screen and it makes a great lounge area.

RE: New Toy Hauler

I have a MDT, a FL60 crew cab. 1999 vintage. I have been using it as a daily driver for about 6 months. It takes up the same width as my old dually. It is 2 feet longer overall but it will turn about as well as a reg cab PU truck with 2wd. It gets about 12 mpg pulling the trailer full with 2 quads and 2 bikes. 17 empty. I have about 150,000 miles and should get another 350,000 before a rebuild. It only cost 31k when I bought it but it did need tires. They were not wore out just 8 years old. A good number of trucks around for this price and for the price of a new dually you could get around a 2005 MDT. My 05 I sold last year depreciated more than this truck costs, so I felt sick to my stomach when I went to look at the new trucks. BTW if anyone want to come and drive a MDT to see how it compares let me know I am in St. Louis. BTW I like this truck but a HDT will be next.

RE: Considering toy hauler please advise

You should be able to pick up a 1-3 year old unit like you are looking for and take that money and buy a late model dually. I am afraid to start a war about tow vehicles but I have never heard someone complain they have to much truck.
About the math: Dont do it like most hobbies it never works. If you have it to spend, do so and enjoy it. As previously stated its (almost) priceless.
