RE: 2500HD Towing

Seems like another difference would be a dually rear axle. You might find you will be happier with a dually once you get that new trailer loaded up.

RE: New Tires for my Raptor MP300

I have 12,250 lbs. on 3 (three) axles, and that works out to less than 4,500 lbs./axle. Am I right? So why should I pressurize my tires to haul 7,000 lbs./axle just because my axles are rated to carry that much?
If you have a 3 axle toy hauler wouldn't you have 6000lb axles? I though most of the 3 axle haulers were 6K while the 2 axle haulers came with 7K axles?

RE: Holmans

I wonder if Holman is seeing a decrease from far away out of state buyers. Two years ago when shopping for a TH, Holman had the dealers in my area of CA beat by $10-13K. That has changed a lot in the last year when I was shopping. The area dealers are now within $5k of Holman and the Midwest dealers. By the time you factor in the $3K shipping cost or the time and money to run back to Ohio the savings is just not there anymore. My conversations with local dealers are that they are more than aware of the Midwest dealers and needed to change their pricing strategy.

RE: Cyclone and Road Warrior ?

When we looked at the Cyclone vs RW one of the differences the RW sales person mentioned was the roof was different between the two. On the RW was the tradition wood truss, while the Cyclone used some kind of composite trusses or something along those lines.

RE: Looking at the "real price" for Toy Hauler

Our 315 had a MSRP around Alberta of $72k-79K and after all was said and done I got er for just over 52K. The salesman was so pissed that he wound up showing me their purchase order and when they bought it out of the US it cost them 52K.
EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE
Unless its a small dealer I doubt they even paid 52K for it. Its all part of the sales game that the RV and car dealers play. Let the customer come and make them feel they are playing hardball. Dealer finally says he will do what it takes to move that trailer because there are more on the way. He can't sell below $XX because thats the price he paid. Pulls out phony invoice to prove point. (What they print off the computer screen and show you is not the "actual" invoice or price they paid.) Customer feels like they got one over on the dealer and is happy. Which is not a problem if you are truly happy with the price you paid. Dealer pretends that you really got one over on them and then proceeds to tell all his buddies that walk in his office what you bought the trailer for. They all look at you and your wife and say "Wow that is a great price! I don't think we can even buy them for that cheap." Then walk out the door with a big grin on their face as they wink to the other sales guys on the floor.
When a person goes in to buy a new car/truck/or trailer every five years and thinks they are going to have the upper hand and are real good at playing the sales game vs the salesman/dealer that sells a hundred or more every month, that person is being naive. I just bought a 2013 Fuzion 342 and I paid less than 44K and I know the dealer still made money. No one stays in business for long by selling something for less than they bought it for.

RE: Fuzion 342

You are right the right half of the garage looks like it is about 11'. I would like a little more room for the RZR. I want to added a front bumper and winch. I have a rear bumper with a spare tire and that currently eats up my 10'.
What are you thoughts on 342? Any disadvantages to the floor plan or trailer? I am interested to know if you find that with the auto level station postioned closer to the back wheel if you find any stability issues in the back of the trailer? I have never seen a trailer with the positioning so close to the rear tire. Most position it closer to the back of the trailer. So I curious as to how much stability is given up with that positioning.
I would like the rear bathroom so that guests can have their own (which currently is an issue on like 2-3 trips over the camping season) and to keep people from tracking into the master bath, including me when I am dirty and muddy. I can live without it, I just think I would like to have it.
The garage measures out this way. From the cabinets to the ramp door its 10'10" x 45" wide. From the ramp door to the entry door into the living area it is 12' x 54" wide.
From a personal preference perspective the one thing I would change on this trailer would be the east/west bed. I was looking for a north/south so it would be easier to get around. But for the price we picked this up for I can live with the bed going out the slide. As far as the level up jack placement I have never noticed any kind of stability issues when we have used it. Its rock solid. As a matter of fact I have never noticed the placement of the rear jacks until you brought it up. Maybe they have moved them now, since mine is an early 2013 there have been some changes. Mine has the black graphics on the outside vs the brown. The wood/trim is different on the newer ones along with 2 more windows behind the couch where I have 2 cabinets in that place.
One thing we do enjoy is having that 3rd slide in the kitchen across from the couch slide which really opens up the space. We find lots of cabinet space also. Especially with having the full pantry to store all the food and more. It has 8 pull out drawers in the island, while some trailers we were considering that did not have that island only had 3 drawers or 2 that were just very deep in the L shaped kitchens.
Everyone has different needs, but this trailer seems to cover most of ours at this time. I'm sure as time goes by there will be things that will bug me and that I would like to change or look for in the next rig.

RE: Fuzion 342

I have the 342 and though I have not measured it since I am only hauling 2 quads right now and have more than enough room, I am not sure if the garage is a full 12 feet all the way across because of the full kitchen pantry and the garage cabinets that extend into the garage a bit. It might be 12 feet from the glass door that goes into the garage to the rear, but could be closer to 11 feet from the cabinets to the rear. If you need the full 12 feet that could be an issue, but at this time its not a problem for me.

RE: Cyclone 4100 rear pull down screen

The one in my Fuzion is the same way, since the roll down screen is made by the same company. At first I though it was broken, but after asking a few questions I found out that is just the way they are. One side of my screen stays in that groove pretty good, but the other seems a little loose like the screen isn't centered and I wonder about the skeeters finding a way in once the warmer weather comes and we do more camping.

RE: Repairing fuel station pump

Mine is not frozen, but it sure seems to pump slow. I measured about 2 GPM into an incremented fuel can. Is this normal. It is less than 3 months old.
Did you ever figure out your issue? Mine does that also and its only a few months old. According to the pump manufactures literature that came with the trailer the flow should be somewhere around 8 gpm.

RE: Diesel roadside smog checks

My office is in Baldwin Park, right on the border with Irwindale and they set up commercial truck checks right in front of me quite frequently. Commercial trucks only.
I have seen checkpoints in Burbank a few times and they were pulling in random cars and trucks and was NOT a sobriety check. Regardless I avoid them if at all possible, don't need the hassle or loss of time.
Would be interesting in knowing what the law/statute is that allows them to randomly inspect passenger vehicles.
Was it the local PD that had the commercial truck checks set up or was that the CHP? The law may have changed, but a couple years ago down in Oakland the San Leandro police set up a commercial truck inspection just down the road from one of our locations. Apparently guys were coming back and complaining they were being inspected. A call to the CHP got them out of there because only the CHP can set up and enforce the roadside inspections.
Many of the local PD's seem to have the commercial enforcement pick ups now, but they can only pull you over and do and inspection if warranted. They are not allowed to set up inspection stops and pull trucks in.

RE: Chevy Silverado tow mirrors

Well its just a bad mirror design on my truck. Maybe the mirrors on the newer or older trucks work better. The mirrors are definitely wide enough. They measured out at around 113". Trailer is 104" wide. Problem still exists that the mirror assemblies cannot be put out at their furthest point at 90 degrees to the truck and still have the actual mirrors be usable. The mirror assemblies have to be angled in towards the truck.
By playing around with them for a bit I got the drivers side mirror to be usable, but not perfect. Passenger side still cannot be adjusted to see down the side of the trailer. Should an awning come loose, or the door come unlatched, or I forget to put one of the steps up I would never be able to catch that in my mirror until somebody flags me down or worse. As it is now with the passenger side convex mirror adjusted out to it furthest point and still being usable while going straight, as I make a right hand turn I can only watch the trailer wheels about half way through the turn and then they disappear from view and I am stuck looking at the front half of the trailer. Not a safe situation. Guess I will be on the hunt for some aftermarket mirrors.

RE: Chevy Silverado tow mirrors

Take a tape measure and measure the width of your trucks mirrors to see if they really are wider than the trailer. If they are not then I think you have found your problem.
That is my plan once these storms stop rolling through and I can get outside and measure. Hopefully this afternoon. That was my thought also....are these mirrors wide enough. I do miss the flip up tow mirrors on my Dodge.

RE: Chevy Silverado tow mirrors

I tow a 102" wide (8.5') trailer and I can see down the sides with the tow mirrors on my 2009 Silverado.
Do you have your mirrors pointed out at 90 degrees to their furthest point or are they angled in towards they truck but still usable with a full range of vision?

RE: Chevy Silverado tow mirrors

I'm voting on this answer "are they out of sync with the electric motor?
Occasionally if something hits the mirror they get knocked off track. You then have to manually click them back into position with your hand".
Take your mirrors out as far as they go and gently adjust glass by hand, you may hear a clicking as you move the mirror glass past where the motor is stopping. Once they are where you can see, they can be fine tuned with the motor.
One of the most sensible things I have read in this thread. I did go out and check that, but unfortunately I couldn't move the mirror any further by hand than the motor could. No more adjustment left in them. Thanks

RE: Chevy Silverado tow mirrors

I have however used Chevy mirrors and they work fine. I have no problem viewing the side of my 40'trailer
That statement is misleading as in a previous post you mentioned that in order to see down the side of your trailer you have to use the convex mirror. That tells me your mirrors are not working fine. How do you consistently use a convex mirror to see whats going on 50-55 feet behind /along side you with any sense of detail? That was never that kind of mirrors intended purpose.

RE: Chevy Silverado tow mirrors

We have a 2011 3500 DRW CHEV. pulling a 37' H.H. CE..
Have experienced any of those problems. Had a 40' Cardinal
And no problems.
Are you able to have your mirror assembly out 90 degrees to your tow vehicle, to the furthest point and still be useable? or are the assemblies pointed in at an angle towards the truck?

RE: Chevy Silverado tow mirrors

The larger mirror should be focused on the next lane not the side of the trailer . The convex portion will eliminate blinds spots and let you view the side of the trailer.
Baloney....You have no idea how mirrors are supposed to be set up. The large mirror should be able to capture the side of the trailer along with the lane next to you and and the smaller convex mirror is for your blind spot as vehicles have left the field of vision of your larger mirror and are coming up along side the bed of your truck.

RE: Chevy Silverado tow mirrors

you have west coast style mirrors on your tractor; if you want to see down a 102" trailer then you need to get a west coast style mirror.
I do have a "west coast" style mirror. The GM camper/towing mirrors are installed on my 3500, not the kind of "sport" mirrors found on the 1500's and some 2500's.
The predicament I am in is to figure out if I am doing something wrong with the current GM towing/camper style mirrors or if I am maxed out on the adjustment with them or if I can locate an after market towing mirror that would work better(stick out further) with a 102" wide trailer.
