RE: clorox bleach in diesel

Guys, that's 1 cup in how much fuel? Bleach is an oxidizer - I'm surprised it hasn't caught fire You cant be serious!

RE: clorox bleach in diesel

HR: Good response, pays to not take a chance, if just for the peace of mind.... FWIW Sully may not be off the mark, 1 cup of bleach at 6% solution is less than a 1/2 ounce of Chlorine in 90 gallons of fuel. (11,520 ounces) It certainly isn't super chlorinated.... I'd look to the water separator. And the nice part is we don't have to prove it,-- opinions you know!!! Everybody's got one.. And as Bartels and James used to say.....We thank you for your suppport!!

RE: clorox bleach in diesel

Wildman, But does your lawnmower engine have a fuel/water separator like the DP. I would think the bleach would most likely end up in the bottom of the separator. BINGO!!!

RE: Coachman quality

I am searching for a 35ft or so pusher. It seams that the Winneybago 36m is made of gold so I'm branching out and looking at a Coachman cross country. How is their quality compair to the winneys? Also will the 300horse cummins be enough for that size coach? Any input will be appreciated before I spend $100K. Why not buy a late model used rig? Much higher quality for lots less $$$

RE: clorox bleach in diesel

Wonder why Clorox bleach comes in a plastic (non-corrosive) jug, and years ago it came in a glass jug, But it has never been sold in a metal can?... Hmmm... simple.....COST!

RE: clorox bleach in diesel

Johnny risk adversion is a great idea of course, IF the chlorine stays in the water, does not mix with the diesel fuel, and will be trapped at the water trap, but it will come in contact with the lift pump and fuel lines again, we need a fuel systems engineer or chemist i merely provided some numbers, and it really makes me wonder because sodium hydrochloride is NOT the same thing as Chlorine gas mix bleach and ammonia and you can release chlorine gas, and that IS corrosive, poisonous and dangerous It will "stay with" the water because its in solution and not in suspension

RE: clorox bleach in diesel

Sure would like to know the real answer. Is a small amount of bleach, 1 cup, in 90 gals of diesel harmful to the point of catastrophic repairs required or could it have been simply taken care of by using fuel additives and not a cause for real concern. A cup of household bleach contains very little chlorine....its maybe a 6% solution. Thusly its by far mainly WATER. So what would happen with a cup of WATER dumped into 90 gallons of fuel??? NADA...not jack squat is what.

RE: Yellowstone

We stayed 10 days at Grizzly RV Resort and did not see everything. Can't wait to go back!! We fulltime though and are in no hurry, as I like down days once in a while, etc. Very Easy...places such as the Grizzly commercial part are so far superior to ANYTHING within the borders of YNP...ya cant even make a comparison...added in the Grizzly is a whopping 1 1/2 miles outside the border of YNP...and a great big 15 miles from Madison...one of the busyiest road junctions inside Yellowstone....and its not much of a question.

RE: Yellowstone

How long would be a good stay at West Yellowstone to drive into the park each day and view the sights? Once I leave Yellowstone heading down to the Grand Canyon, near Flagstaff to see the canyon. I appreciate all the ideas and tips from people that have already been there done that. If you dont intend on spending AT LEAST 4 days in YNP....then dont bother going!

RE: clorox bleach in diesel

Household bleach s only about a 6% solution...so what you basically did was dump a pint of WATER in your fuel.....your water separator will remove it

RE: 2004 ISL

You didn't indicate the weight of your coach, but even if you're in the mid 30,000 range, 6.3 mpg is pretty poor. Most ISC/ISL Cummins owners get up into the 8 mpg range, or better. (The ISM and ISX engines are down in the range you're experiencing.) I beg to differ with you about that!

RE: Securing Blue Ox Towbar to Prevent Theft

And for all that propound to have fully locking this and that....just wait till there is an emergency and you need to get the toad AWAY from the coach ASAP......and then sit and think where the keys are! Locking hitch pin in the receiver for sure...everywhere else..normal standard hitch pins. ( And for those that say times never happen that you have to get loose THAT quick....explain that to my wife when our CC was spewing fuel all over the place and had the jeep COVERED with fuel... Mr Brown can tell ya all about it!)

RE: smell deisel fumes up front with a deisel pusher

Yup, first thing to do is verify that there is NO exhaust leak. Check for any tell-tail signs of black on the head to exhaust manifold, exhaust manifold to turbo.... all the way to the tail pipe. The other thing to check is for open vents/windows while driving-- anything that would cause pressure inside the coach to be less than in the engine room. Lastly, check the gasketing around the coach interior to engine room accesses. Im betting either the seal where the engine box sits on the floor OR the seal between the box and the lid.

RE: smell deisel fumes up front with a deisel pusher

Just because the engine is in the back doesn't mean fumes will be blown backwards as you travel down the road. With a motorhome there will be a large spinning vortex at the rear so any fumes going into that vortex could pretty easily make their way into the motorhome if there is a gap or a vent or maybe even an open window back there. Any smoke or exhaust fumes are not "blown" backwards...meaning to the rear of the coach.....while moving they are SUCKED in behind the unit. Said VORTEX created ( ever really seen one or any...I have) swirl from centerline to outboard and grow in size as they have room to expand. You can see them generated on wingtips from large aircraft as they land....they have NEVER been seen to blow FORWARD.!

RE: Acceptable Delivery Miles

How many miles are acceptable on a new coach. My 40 ft dp had 2500 miles on it by the time I took possession. Built in Indiana, taken to shows who knows where, delivered to California, then finally purchased in Las Vegas. Is this normal? Thank you. Mine had 3400 miles on it. Oregon to Cleveland. Whine about something worthwhile

RE: 12-13k Budget For Motorhome

I'm not bashing the P30, just simply stating the facts. We had a 1982 southwind on the P30, now we have a 1994 georgie boy on a P30 and they are both about the same. The ford's frame is built much heavier than the chevy-it's a true fact. Its absolutely true! And if you buy a Ford chassis of the same vintage yo get something with "wheel barrow" sized tires and a coach that rides rougher than a cob...and ya cant do anything about it. Take your choice

RE: House batteries

12.1 volts is as close to DEAD and still light up a 12V bulb as you can get. Your on board charger isnt working. Drag out your stand alone VOM and hook to the leads that go TO the coach batteries and you;ll see you aint getting much / anything

RE: Xantrex inverter/charger issues

Thanks to all for the replies. Since the 15 AMP house circuit we were plugged couldn't handle the 92 AMP DC charge rate, I adjusted the Xantrex charge rate down from 100% to 30%. When i got up the next morning, batteries were fully charged and everything seems normal. Larry 15amp AC is all I use for my coach. When asked why I dont have more juice...I simply say that 15 amp @ 120 VAC is all I need to run a battery charger!
