RE: Advice on ultra lite upgrade

Don't assume that a bigger trailer will have a bigger bed. You have to physically check them out. If you are not in a hurry I would recommend going to the Tampa RV show which will be after the first of the year. All the big name rigs are there. Wear shoes that you can kick off and try the beds.
You can go home with a mess of brochures to read.

RE: 3,500 max tow capacity.

Many of todays mid-sized "SUVs" are really just tall passenger cars. I will only tow with a truck based, rear wheel drive real SUV. My old Chevy 2wd Blazer is rated to tow 5500#. A 4wd Blazer is rated for 5000#. They don't make them anymore. We tow a Casita 17'.
We have been looking at the Xterra as a replacement. We didn't find the Liberty to be comfortable. Others are beyond the budget.

A lot of trailers in Europe use them.

RE: Easiest towing small TT?

Anybody here have an Airstream 'Bambi'?
Last time I looked at a Bambi at an RV show I got a nearly terminal case of sticker shock.

RE: Easiest towing small TT?

Another vote for the Casita. It is perfect for my wife and I.
We enjoyed a trip to Florida and back last fall. It is super easy to tow and has everything that we need.

RE: What do you think this 1970s TT might weigh?

Does the seller have a title? If not you can be facing a major hassle at the DMV.
I would not expect a weight sticker on a rig that old, they were not required in those days.
Some states have the weight on the registration, that is probably your best hope.

RE: 2013 RAV4

I would go for a Nissan Xterra, 5000 lbs plus rear wheel drive for better control.

RE: Shortest trailer w/full slide?

About 2 weeks ago we saw a travel trailer going the other way on I-10 in New Mexico with his slide extended. We could only speculate on the reason for this. We are 2 seniors that are fine without a slide.

RE: Best Towable Trailer

We have found our Casita '17 to be an excellent 2 people trailer. We tow it with a 2001 Blazer V6 4.3. It tows like a dream.
Casitas are built in Rice TX, south of Dallas on I-45.

RE: 19 footer with torsion axle, less than 10 feet high?

The large Casitas are 17'. BigFoot makes larger units as does Escape.

RE: What I am considering to purchase

A 4x4 costs more to buy, fuel and insure. It has more moving parts to maintain. I haven't driven in snow for 40 years and haven't missed it.
How many people will be in this trailer? We have learned that it is more pleasant towing a smaller lighter trailer that is much more maneuverable. Also you don't need to stop for gas as often.

RE: The right TT for me?

European caravans have much lower tongue weight than the North American RVs.
European trailers in general are much lighter than a US trailers of the same size. It isn't just the tongue weight. If you Google caravansUK you will find many related sites.
Looking at the film clip, my first thought was what would that flat side trailer be like when an 18 wheeler thundered past? Aerodynamics make a huge difference.

RE: The right TT for me?

Sounds like hitching a Chihuahua to pull an ox cart.
I have towed with cars of similar size, but only small popups which were basically tents on wheels, no galley, bath or insulation.
I would not tow anything that required a class 4 hitch with any car that small.

RE: Need help making sure TV will tow TT

We had 3 flat sided stick-built TTs. The first was a 16', the other 2 were 19'. Passing semis used to blow us around. We now have a 17' Casita which is molded fiberglass like a boat. Aerodynamics make a huge difference, the semis don't bother us at all.

RE: I think I found my next RV

I would not try to tow anything bigger than a 13' TT with a CRV.
We had 8 different popups over the years, but after a trip from St Petersburg to Seattle and back we bought our first TT. The next trip from St Pete to Seattle was much easier. We never unhitch for an overnight stop. No cranking or rearranging furniture.

RE: I need to choose between 3 A/C options

Given the small size of that trailer, I would go with the 8000 BTU unit. The big ones would have long cycles and go from hot to cold all the time.
