Will the class A RV industry survive?

I notice from some other threads that CC has gone under and parts are in slow supply from the people who supply the industry. The RV manufacturers don't make their own parts, but rather they are component builders. Now, after the manufacturers have been pared down to the survivors, will there be enough business to keep their suppliers in business? Do companies like Power gear, HWH, Kwiki, etc. have enough alternative outlets that they can survive....will the sale of a few thousand motorhomes keep this all going?

RE: Have you had to wait for parts recently?

kwikee I think. it's the standard Winnie one that's Hydraulic.
the MH and manuals are not here at the moment.
and yeah I know I've read lots about Kwikee and their (lack of) service.
My winnebago used HWH for its' slides and levelers...of course I know they could have changed...

RE: What is this thing?

I could buy the thought that this is a barbeque connection since the 1984 brochure has one listed as standard equipment. However, how would this be regulated? There is no valve, quick disconnect, or whatever to plug a barbeque into. The hose is open all the way to the propane tank. I am leaning more toward the safety valve outlet. I have a huge propane tank since this model was factory configured to run the motor on gasoline or propane. One of the early hybrids, I guess. I've never run it on propane but at some time I want to try it. I've just got to get the nerve to flip the switch and hope it doesn't blow up.
I have the exact same hookup on my coach...the dealer was not able to tell me what it was for.

RE: what year is my motor home

The FIN is the Fleetwood Identification Number. So It looks as though you have a 2003 model build on a 2004 chassis. Which is very possible according to the clicky posted above.
"In another example, a chassis manufacturer may decide to skip a model year entirely and designate its chassis one year ahead of the then current calendar year. This could result in motorhomes having a model year one year less than the chassis model year."
Call Fleetwood customer service and ask them. It could have been built in 03 yet still be an 04 model.
Rolnhome has it correct. My coach was built in 2004 but is the 2005 model year. If Fleetwood says your coach is a 2003 model year based on your FIN number then that is what it is. If you are going on your manufacture date, then it is probably the next model year.

RE: When Is Windshield Crack Too Large?

I'm guessing you don't have glass coverage on your insurance...Personally I would fix and then buy full glass coverage.

RE: am i being too picky ?

I would check around the engine, there may be 2 valves to shut off the coolant flow to the dash heater. Next I would find a different mechanic, your coach has self adjusting brakes, & it has NO rotors, drum brakes & dust shields, you can't see the rear brakes unless the wheels are removed & the drum taken off.
I thought the Discovery's were all diesels so I didn't understand the rotor reference.
To the OP, I just keep a running list that I work on as I go along...I have never had a problem that would keep me from using my rig but I have also never gone two months with out something making it on my list.
You must do yearly maintenance (fuel filters) but the alternator and brakes are not common; but not out of line either. Someone here mentioned your tires and I just wanted to re-enforce that warning...check them out.

RE: What do you think of this dealer offer?

Nada low retail was 136,000. If wholesale is 80% of that; you are looking at 108,800....Deal seems reasonable to me...Maybe you can squeeze them for a few thousand more.

RE: (update) Front Brakes on Spartan Chassis Question

You have to get it fixed, but I would call around for different bids and see if I couldn't better that price.

RE: Adding a Second Fuel Filter

Your doing the right thing by adding a primary filter, the high presure systems always use two except by RV builders due to cost savings. Cat makes a filter base with a electric priming pump, the old hand units take forever to prime dry filters.Spend the extra bucks and get the new electric.
JohnB
certainly an electric pump would be more convenient; but the manual (at least mine) only requires a few strokes to prime.

RE: Overhead fluorescent light not working - fix??

There is a circuit board in the 18" florescent lights and it is not replaceable. Mine just went out. If you have power to the light (you can test this with a light tester) then you need to replace the fixture. I got mine at camping world. four screws hold it to the ceiling and two wire nuts to connect the 12 volt wires. pay attention as you take it apart....maybe take some digital pictures as you remove it and then replace the same way....it is not difficult.

RE: Best Way to Heat the RV

Some have alluded to this, but the biggest heat lose is out the front window. Heavy drapes or furniture cover over the front window will do wonders.

RE: Adding a Second Fuel Filter

I would think that a two micron filter can only help. If you know how to plumb it what would be the down side? you open the system when you remove the filter so there shouldn't be any problems there. You are going to install the priming pump so re-priming will not be an issue.

RE: Shrink wrap for winter?

My boat is about 10.00 dollars a foot to shrink wrap....RV would have to be 5 times that....not cost effective.

RE: Cat 300hp

Looks like a water leak by the dining window. 25,000 is a good price according to NADA. If you are in the market, it really doesn't look that bad.

RE: Looking for hidden value

Coaches at the higher end will withstand time better than lower end coaches. Slides, and other accessories, that are newer will perform better than the first ones created.
Hoses and all rubber material will deteriorate over time, but these are all replaceable....I would just go a head and replace all hoses, belts, tires etc. on a ten year old coach unless I new they had just been done.
Foretravel maybe in your price range at ten year old. Some of the higher end ones will still be out of range. Country coach, travel supreme are others that might meet your needs. I would avoid the lower end of the market unless the deal was exceptional and you saved enough to make repairs more palatable.

My C7 came with the manual pump installed, check the engine for your second filter and use the priming pump if it is installed.

RE: Pacific pride

One last thing, and if you travel much through Oregon, it can be worth a LOT! You pump your own fuel. If you pull into a public fuel station and start pumping your own, someone will come running out of the office screaming and flailing their arms as if you're a criminal! Only ''certified'' fuel jockeys can fuel your vehicle. Waiting for the fuel jockey to make his/her rounds in a busy gas station is a major PITA and time waster. (Or waiting for one to come out and get started in the 1st place) And forget about ''clicking it completely full'' since THEY do the filling for you. The exception to the state law is card lock fueling, so you just fuel up and leave as usual.
I experienced this in oregon; You would be lucky if you could find someone to pump your fuel in Minnesota. When I tried to pump my own fuel I got the "your Beaking the law" rant....I was completely taken back; I couldn't believe grown adult law makers would waste their time on something as silly as that.
I appreciate all the information on Pacific Pride...at least now I know what they are about...you would think I could find this stuff out on their website.:R

RE: Itasca question(s)

I owned a 2001 Itasca Sunflyer, Ford chassis. It was built better than my current coach, I had no issues in two years of ownership. I made modifications to the chassis so it rode really well...all in all I was very happy with the coach.
