RE: Enjoying camping this weekend and...crash!

OP here,To clarify,TT was on a pretty good downhill slope towards road,it wasn't hooked to anything,it sat really high,he had about a 6" block under all 4 scissor jacks and tongue jack,it probably rolled 4'-6'ahead when it stopped,it was pretty violent, sounded like a 5ver landing on a bed,it was that loud....he's actually lucky the tongue jack folded under and the hitch dug into ground or it would have probably run over his Dodge truck!

Enjoying camping this weekend and...crash!

Was sitting reading at our 5ver at the lake with some friends on Friday evening and I heard a huge crash...jumped up and ran around my friends MH to see what happened, and there was about a 30'+ TT with 2 slides with the tongue laying on the ground, the tongue jack bent over, both front scissors were folded over and the rear bumper was about 4' off the ground.I saw the guy standing there with his wife rubbing his forehead and everyone looked ok,then started jacking up with a hyd. jack and get everything straightened out....didn't look like he wanted any help,so I went back to the 5ver but could see the back half of his TT,he jacked it back up to get it on his ball hitch and backed up to put the rear tires against the concrete curb and put some firewood in front of the front tires........no nothing was chocked when the tongue jack fell off the block ,someone came over and gave him their X-Chocks to use for the weekend, really felt bad for the guy, hope he didn't hurt the TT too bad, both slides were out when it fell, been doing this camping thing along time....as soon as you get it where you want it,the first thing you always do is PUT THE CHOCKS ON THE WHEELS!

RE: Trailer Brake Problems and Braking Performance

I know my integrated Ford controller is so smooth you think they aren't working correctly,I can lock mine up manually but never with the trucks brakes, even set on 10,and other Ford guys say the same, until tonight,on the way to the CG this afternoon a light in town changed quick and my view was blocked, and I got on them as hard as I've ever had to in 3 yrs. with this 5ver and she stopped right now! I looked back in my mirror to see if anyone was behind me and I left 20' of tire marks from the trailer....backed the controller down to 9,I've learned the harder you get on the brakes the better the trailer brakes work, but on easy slower braking you never feel the jerking even on 10,it just takes a little getting used to compared to the old controllers I had for years...

RE: Emerald Ash Borer profit?

Two different COEs we camp at,allow a local VFD to ride around in the campgrounds and sell you a very large wheelbarrow full of slab wood for 10.00,to raise money for their FDs,I've always questioned how do they know where all the wood came from for the sawmills to cut into slab? I buy a full truckload of slab from the local Amish less than a mile from my house for 20.00,so I bring my own,and the Rangers don't even ask where any of the firewood comes from, they are real strict,(LEO) on taking wood across state lines, which I think is smart though....

RE: First Fifth-Wheel

Congrats on the new rig,if you have a 4X4,stick it in low range backing up,that's what I do if it's a real steep climb, also, always try to back to you left so you can see where the trailer is going until you get familiar with backing....

RE: RV Crash Safety & Illusions of Safety

You and your kids are probably way safer in your MH compared to what happens when a family is in a small fuel eff. car going 75+ and hits an SUV or pickup!!! Drive at a safe speed and be carefull and watch out for all the crazies on cell phones and you"ll be fine...

RE: Keeping a log

I just write down which camp ground we went to,mileage up and back for maintenance and how many days there, that's about it.I have a very detailed maintenance log for the truck though,I write down if I wax it! But then again it's an '06 with 36,000 mi.and it's my baby...

RE: Tale of the Scale

It's nice to know everything is right and safe,I keep my CAT scale papers in the glove box so that if by chance anyone questions how heavy I am,I can just show them! I weighed mine with a full load of firewood in my box in the bed and about 25 gal. of freshwater in the tank, and My #s are similar to yours, good job!

RE: Fresh Water Tank Won't Fill

Mine will do that once in awhile,I just wrap my hand around the hose and the fill opening and try to seal it,in about 10 seconds, the vent will burb some air,I let go and it fills the rest of the way with no problem,it just gets a air pocket in it.

RE: blown tire collision or comprehensive

As someone that wrote damage appraisals for over 15 yr.s,If a tire was Ice picked on a parked vehicle,it would be comp.,(vandualism),if it blew going down the road there is no way to say it did,or didn't hit a curb,or pothole and was damaged at a prior time, the tire is NOT insured against a blow out in your policy, therefor the tire is not covered in this type claim, but the damage done by the tire is covered, and the wheel struck the ground so it is covered, but it is a collision loss, that's the way it was in PA.,and written in the policy of the major Co. I worked for at the time......collision

RE: Funding the state coffers!

April 5th I picked up a new 5er and paid $2500 sales tax. April 29th I registered the new 5er and the TV and paid $2200.00 excise tax. That is a total of $4700.00 taxes paid in the month of April. Ouch, can you feel my pain? Lakeside I'm sure they will flush it wisely, like all tax dollars....what gets me is if you sell them both next year, they"ll do it again!

RE: television losing signal

My guess is the water pump generates electrical noise. If the antenna signal is weak to begin with, the water pump interference overwhelms the TV signals. We have the same issue with a vent fan located a few feet from the antenna. Strong signal areas, no interference. Weak signal areas, the fan kills the TV signals. At least we can leave the fan shut off to eliminate the problem when needed. I think you are right,my pump won't bother my TV,unless I'm watching a channel that is weak and sometimes does the "stop" thing that digital does, only then will it make it stop,or come on and say weak signal, nothing else bothers it,when turned on,and I'm on shore power.

RE: Dogs, wll they ever quit barking?

I've been known after listening to a dog barking all the time, and the owners just sitting there not caring,I"ll walk a few trailers or trucks away where no one is at,and at the right time yell,"Will Somebody Shut That D## Dog Up!" then walk away in a different direction,so they have no idea who said it...works everytime! My SIL brings 4 German Shorthairs camping with her all the time, never a peep,it's the stupid owners, not the dogs!

RE: Campers Booking Right Next To You?

A couple years ago,for about 3 yrs. we would go to a COE in early April, most times there would be maybe a dozen campers in the whole place, most would wave and go far away from each other, last time we were there,in pulls a PU,3 kids 1 dog,2 TTs,3 dogs 4 kids, the whole campground is completely empty, all sites have power, guess where they camped...right across from us! What a fiasco all weekend,I knew if that ever happened again,I would have just moved!!!

RE: ARRRGGG!!!!!!!

Having a hard time understanding how OP didn't get a slide bar hitch latched all the way???? One of the reasons I bought my Reese Pro was the fact, you leave pin a 1/2" below faceplate, back in until it slams shut and put lock in hole, there really is NO chance of coming unhooked....no jaws to latch or check???? I'm not bad mouthing any other hitch or OP,just trying to figure out how he dropped his 5ver....
