RE: Check your gear!!

About half way through our PCS from FL to CA. Left Wichita Falls, TX this morning for Tucumcari, NM. Took 287 up to I-40, it was a great ride, but windy as all get out. I found it comical that everywhere there was a "Severe Crosswind" sign, there were actually severe crosswinds. I stopped once to double check all connections and sway brace...well, I got to our campground (KOA) and I find that my access door to my propane tanks has gone missing... What a pain, I guess it departed during the winds today. Long story short, my wife now knows why I do a complete walk around when we stop....I treat it like a post flight walk around. Tomorrow is Farmington, NM, then 4-Corners and Grand Canyon. Safe travels. Cale I see you visited our fair city. Were you just here overnight? Where did you stay? Coyote Creek or the city RV park? For overnighting or just a couple days stay, at $17.00 for water, elect and a dump station, the city park is a good deal. As far as the wind, sorry for your loss, but the wind is pretty much an everyday occurance here.

RE: Babies, Golf Carts and Tailgates, etc..........

I am not condoning the behavior that is describe above, but if we all remember, we were young and pretty stupid ourselves. I ran across a note from a friend the other day that I know I can relate to, how about you all? "I don't think we get smarter as we grow older, we just run out of stupid things to do"

RE: Air compressor

I have this compressor and have been very pleased with the performance. It has worked well for the past 5 years. X2 Very portable, stores in toolbox and the 70# psi on the TV and the 80# psi on the 5er are no problem. Use it to blow out waterlines for winterizing.

RE: Norcold Problem or Blessing?

I went to Walmart and bought one of those indoor/outdoor digital thermometers for about $10 bucks. I set the remote one in the fridge and keep the monitor one in the kitchen area. The "indoor/outdoor" labels are reversed, but it tells me exactly what the temps are inside the fridge at all times. By using this, I can monitor and adjust the fridge settings to keep everything at the perfect temp. No guess work involved. Ron Thanks for this suggestion. I know what "Big Whitey" says is true, but I don't want to overwork the unit by keeping it colder than is necessary leading to an early failure.

Norcold Problem or Blessing?

When I turn on Ref I always put a frozen gal of water on top shelf and place a fan under it. When stocking Ref all items are usually previously refridgerated. I keep the setting on 1 number less than coldest setting. Situation; We camped for 4 days with day time highs in low 80's. With the above setting, the ice in the gal jug barely thawed. Probably no more that a cup of liquid after the trip. Is this normal operation and I count my blessings or is the Ref overworking? Do I need to turn the settings down more allowing the temps to aleast be high enough to allow the ice in the jug to slowly melt?

RE: What kind of vacuum

When looking for a vacuum for our 5er, we opted for the Shark Navigator. We travel with 2 dogs and we find that it does a great job of picking up dirt and dog hair. For those traveling with pets, it also comes with a small rotary brush for furniture. Small version of carpet brush attached to hose.

RE: What's the trick to cleaning black tank level indicators

If you must use them and want a clean reading try this: The next time you are taking a shorter trip , before you leave take a LARGE bag of ice , some granular tank cleaner and a little water... Dump it all down the toilet and drive. Let the road do the cleaning for you and once you get to your stop , simply pull the handle. This will clean any hardened STUFF from the bottom and clean what it can from e sensors... Joe The ice works. I couldn't get the 1/3rd full light to go off, I used 2 ten pound bags of ice and some Dawn, Only drove a little over an hour to campground. Emptied tank on arrival and all was well. This was last month while temps were still cool and still had some ice left in tank while dumping. Problem here in Texas is, if you use ice method in summer, the ice melts before it can adequately clean the tank

RE: A question to Open Range RV Owners

sonnyd49, When we were undecided, but leaning towards the Open Range, we took a trip to Shipshewana and toured the factory. The factory rep was very open to answering all of our questions and even when you ask why they may not do something like a competitor may do it,they would explain why they do it the way they do. We have had our 316RLS for a year and really enjoy it. Only one warranty problem, due to a faulty left front landing gear. One phone call to OR by me and issue was handled at local RV repair shop.

RE: First accident with new truck/5er

Little trick I learned from Dealer. Pull landing gear up so it just clears ground. Get in truck and put in gear while holding manual slide on electric brake control, you are checking trailer brakes and making sure pin is captured at same time. Once secure, finish lifting landing gear. This procedure makes sure you are locked in. Same here. All the above, plus I leave my wheel chocks in place as well.

RE: Pads under landing gear?

I just looked outside and saw a couple of folks with 6-point levelers that are using single yellow plastic blocks under theirs, on a firm gravel base. I think any 4x6" leg pad could sink in hot asphalt or soft ground so it never hurts to add a pad of some sort. I use a 6x6x12" wood block with a handle under my front jacks and rear stabilizers all the time, but mostly to reduce the leg travel. X2 I have the stack of yellow pads in the front compartment, and seldom use them. I carry some 2x10x12 for pads and 2-6x6x12 with handles all in the back of the TV and with the tailgate already down for unhooking, they are the handiest for me to use.

RE: shipping charges

I too have purchased quite a few items over the years from CW. But I think after my last experience, I will look more closely at buying local. I traveled 100 miles to nearest CW store. DW and I wanted to look at item before purchase, after reading the reviews. Store didn't stock the item and couldn't even find it as a CW item. On the CW web site it is the first item on the page?:? We ordered it from CW on line, only to find out that because of size of item it doesn't qualify for free shipping. Item arrived yesterday, It is defective.:(

RE: Awning Shade

I just got the ShadePro last week. It has a 1 foot piece with zipper that stays on awning. It is well made , rolls up fine and I am happy with it. It also has an extra cord sewn in and comes with clips if you want to hang lights. Thanks for the replys. The ShadePro is the one I am most intrested in, because I saw the feature with the zipper part staying with the awning. I wasn't sure if it was for all sizes or only the larger ones. A question for, What Next, Does the ShadePro come with corner grommets for either tie downs or added weights? We do get some "breezy" weather here.

Awning Shade

I have an electric awning that entends straight out and can't be lowered because of a slideout, I am considering purchasing an awning shade. I see CW sells a Sun Blocker and a Patty O Shade. I have also looked at a Shade Pro. Does anyone have any experience with any of these products? Once installed, do you just roll them up with the awning, or do you have to remove after each use?

...it must be winter time...cabin fever I've said it before, the information on the posts is helpful, but it's the humor that really sets this forum apart. Nothing better than a good laugh or just a small smile. Keep it coming

RE: Random overnight stops

Last fall, we made a trip from Montana to Chattanooga. We made no reservations on the way down or coming back, other than to call when about an hour or two from the campground we selected in our Woodalls Directory, to make sure there was a space available. We didn't get turned away from any place due to it being full. IMO, reservations make things too set. I would rather start calling when we are about ready to stop, and if we decide to stay for an extra day it usually is no problem. Have a good trip. Besides the Woodalls, have you tried the Allstays App? Campgrounds of all types, Wal-Marts, Truck Stops, City/County Parks, Rest Areas, Welcome centers and much more. I can use it to plan not only camping areas but fueling stops as well. Lists propane dealers, and many repair shops along with Camping Worlds, Cracker Barrels, ect.

RE: Portable air compressor

This Craftsman fits my needs for a reasonable price. Fills my tires to 80# quickly. This is the one that works the best for me as well. I also use it to blow out lines when winterizing.

RE: Why do RV shows (and others) charge admission?

I really don't understand the debate. Capitalism: Seller: I have a product to sell. I want to charge $xxx.xx. Buyer: Value, Yes / Value, No

RE: What's Frugal and what's cheap?

I think the question is an object lesson in objectivity and subjectivity. I am frugal you are cheap. I am pleasingly plump you are fat. I am a senior citizen you are an old----. The information you get from RV.net forum is always great; The humor you get, is even greater.
