RE: First Trip - Memphis & Nashville: how to split the time

We stayed at Graceland RV Park too. Our family did both Memphis and Nashville. We too found Memphis more to our liking. My oldest son had so much fun trying out ribs. His final vote was Blues City Cafe! He did think Rendezvous was good, but preferred the wet over the dry ribs. I really liked visiting Graceland and the National Civil Rights Museum. DH loved the Gibson factory...I wasn't so thrilled when he insisted that he HAD to buy a new electric guitar. :R There was more than we thought to see downtown: Firefighter Museum (DH is a firefighter), Mud Island, Peabody Duck Walk, Trolley rides and tons of good BBQ!

RE: Easy individual micro cakes

Does anyone know of a disposable cup or bowl that would work for this recipe? Something that can handle microwaving.

RE: Questions regarding renting for a trip north

I'm think that your SA location means San Antonio. If so, this place looks like it rents popups and hybrids.

RE: Questions regarding renting for a trip north

I think you need to look at a popup or a Trailmanor. Those are the only ones that a minivan can pull safely. I think a hybrid would be too heavy for the minivan. Keep your eye open on craigslist. You never know when you find a good deal. Depending on your subdivision, these can be small enough to fit in your driveway. That would save storage costs.

RE: Too many t-shirts

My mother and I did that with all my college sweatshirts years ago. That quilt is now close to 30 years old. Below is a picture of it in our old camper from our 2006 trip to Yellowstone. It's still traveling with us! http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu190/ginwalsh/3184_1128987059642_7291000_n.jpg width=640

RE: What food to bring?

As everyone else has said, we cook what we usually have at home. Yes, the grill is used more. There are a few exceptions for me. I don’t use the oven as much in the RV. We camp in warm weather and I don’t like to heat up the RV plus I find my RV oven not very good at even baking. For some recipes I will do prep work beforehand at home. For example cutting up the onion, bell pepper or other vegetables needed in a meal and storing in a Ziploc sandwich bag in the frig. This saves times and space. If I’m making something like chili I might brown the hamburger at home and also put it in a Ziploc bag. Remember that frig space is limited, so if you can save space by cutting up before then it will help. My boys love pancakes so that is on the menu every time. I like the mixes that use only water, again saves space in the frig if I don’t have to bring extra milk to use in the recipe. Another thing to keep in mind is if you are dry camping or staying in a CG without full hookups. You need to think of meals that will use limited mixing bowls, pans, etc. The less you use the less water for clean up or disposal pans to buy. After a few trips you will find a menu that works well for your family. I have a list of meals that works for us and put the ideas on my camping list on the computer. Now before going camping I look at the list and decide what to bring. It gets easier with every trip. Good luck!

RE: Camping with friends- Meals

We have done this several times. In most cases each camper is in charge of their own breakfasts and lunches (sometimes there is sharing). The meal we trade off on is dinner. Each night a different camper makes dinner. We usually call each other before going to make sure we are not doubling menus. Sometimes we have to help each other if there is need to use someone's burner, grill, etc. On some nights we all take a break and go to a local restaurant. We usually camp with groups of 2 or 3 campers. It works well for us!

RE: Tax Hike in Texas!

Gosh...before long, Texas will be just like California...:) It's going to happen before you know it. You should see how many people from California are moving to Austin!!

Celebration- I got reservations at Banff!!!

Banff opened their reservations today. After calling for almost 3 hours I finally got a person. There were only 2 spots left that we fit in with full hookups. I tried online while dialing, but couldn't figure out how a non-Canadian can pay online. It seems like you either need a Canadian bank or a Canadian Government user ID. After finally getting a nice young lady who booked our spot, she said that non-Canadian's can register for a Canadian Government user ID. The system just seems rather complicated. It has me wonder if booking at US National Parks is hard for people from another country too. I'm just thrilled to get a spot for our dates! It was my lucky day! I think it might be time to buy a lottery ticket!!!:B

Help- looking for info. between Glacier and Banff

We are looking at traveling this summer to Glacier and Banff. Right now I am narrowing down the attractions and campgrounds we want to stay at between Glacier and Banff. I was thinking about one night at Fort MacLeod to visit the Fort Museum of the Mounted Police and Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. From there we would be heading to Calgary. I'm looking to stay in the area for a few days. From Calgary we will head to Banff. Here is the information I'm looking for: 1. Campground recommendations for Fort MacLeod area. 2. Campground recommendations for Calgary. 3. Recommend attraction for the Calgary area. 4. Recommend any attractions we need to see between Glacier and Banff. Thanks for all the help!

RE: What do you store in your TT?

Take a couple of camping trips near a Walmart. Anything you're missing you can buy and leave in the camper. We always have a note pad in the camper to note items to purchase or restock for the next trip. Everyone is different on their needs. One of my friends found it funny that in addition to all the linens, kitchen items, etc., we had to have a fan in our bedroom. In the stick house we have a ceiling fan that runs year-round (need the background noise to sleep). After our first trip I had to buy a small portable fan for the camper...it's a must for us.

RE: disney world questions

I agree with previous posting about taking a break during the hottest time of the day. Take advantage of the extra morning and evening hours they sometimes offer at the parks for people who stay at the Disney properties.

RE: Looking for a place to stay

Bryn Mawr You won't find it in Woodalls. They do pack em in. But has access to the beach on the property. Not a beautiful C/G. But it's OK. People are really nice. We stayed there. It's tight, but nice to be that close to the beach. On another note, we got a three day pass on the train that tours the town. Every morning we could call them and they would send a van out to our CG and pick us up and take us into town. Nice!

RE: High End Cooler: Yeti, Pelican, or ????

The first time I saw a Yeti I was in a hardware store in a small Texas town. I was surprised at the prices (never knew coolers could be so expensive). Talking to some of the guys in the store they said that they sell a lot of them to the oil field workers. The workers swear by them to keep their drinks and food cool during the hot Texas summers.

Cabela's zero gravity chairs. Bought them for the RV. Love them so much I'm looking to buy them for the stick house.

RE: Shower Upgrade/Mod

Would something like this work? It's not 18" deep, so I would think you will have to raise the subfloor.
