RE: Residential Fridge

We stock our residential refregerator full when we leave home. The only shelf we had problems with stuff moving and possibly falling out when we opened the door was the top shelf, so I put a case of water in it's plastic case container on that shelf and store items around it as we use the water. No problems since. You'll get use to stocking it to keep any movement at a minimum.

RE: refrigerator won't stay closed

We have a residential side by side refrigerator and store a couple gallons of milk and other items on the door shelves. On our first trip, the refrigerator door came open. I had a very small and thin bungee cord and used it between the handles and that took care of it. Quick and easy fix before we take off. No problems since.

RE: Charlotte NC area campgrounds

We recently attended a 4 day national JR ice hockey tournament next to Matthews and stayed at the Tom Johnson RV park at Concord. It was about a 15-20 minute straight shot drive on the bypass to the arena. After checking RV Park Reviews for the Charlotte area, I wasn't impressed with any of the rest of them. The Johnson facility is next door to the Charlotte Motor Speedway and it is a large well kept facility. http://www.tomjohnsoncamping.com/Page.aspx/pageId/30741/Tom-Johnson-Concord-Campground.aspx I agree Tom Johnson has the easiest access to the Extreme Ice Center during peak traffic times. We were there during the week of the Food Lion car show at the speedway. It was a straight shot from the campground intersection to the bypass and we traveled past Matthews to the Extreme Ice Center during rush hour both ways and had no holdups. Traffic was heavier during rush hour, but no stop and go.

RE: Morgantown, WV

I assume you'll be there for the Oklahome State game. I don't know of any nice RV parks in that area. I'm lucky enough to have a pass to park my MH beside the stadium, but there are no visitor parking areas around the stadium without a pass. I would suggest that you get there a day or two early (Thursday evening or Friday morning) and park in one of the short walk parking areas that will permit you to dry camp for the game.

RE: US 64 East in New Mexico

You'll have some sharp curves, a few narrow places, and some hills, but it should be no problem. I came across there last year with a 43" MH towing a pickup and had no problems at all. A very scenic drive!

RE: Snake!!!

This past winter in Florida on the golf course we play daily, I hit a ball into the rough. As I started into it to hit the ball, a long rat snake slithered away into the deeper grass just a couple feet away. I begged for a free drop, but since there was money on the line, I got no sympathy and had to play the ball where it lies. I took a longer club and rattled it in the taller grass to be sure the snake had moved away before I addressed the ball with the snake somewhere behind. My ball was sitting on some sticks, etc. and as I hit the shot, I disturbed a longer stick and a piece came up behind and hit the back of my leg. My next step was to the middle of the fairway! My playing partners are still laughing!

RE: Mountwood Park, Waverly WV

I drove through there two years ago when we were visiting Parkersburg and decided we didn't want to stay there. It is a county park and at that time it was in very poor condition, to the extend that I sent an email to the county commissioners expressing my disappointment of their facility. I would recommend going out US 50 to Harrisville and staying in the new section of North Bend State Park.

RE: 50/30/20 amp help

Tom- I also have a GFI in my garage that trips most of the time when I occasionally plug my MH into it when I begin loading. In addition to your refrigerator, your inverter/charger begins pulling load and probably some other smaller loads. I have to run a longer extension cord from an outlet in my shop that is not on a GFI, and everything works fine. I recently had to change another GFI that has a garage refrigerator, sprinkler system, and fountain pump running off of it. It would trip frequently and I could never figure why, but after replacement, everything works fine. Bottom line, the GFI you're using may need replaced also.

RE: Canaan Valley, WV from Columbia, SC

I go there often from the Raleigh area and use US 33 off of I-79 thru Elkins. I drove my 43 ft. MH across from VA one time and won't do it again. There are some steep grades between Elkins and Rt. 32, but I've not had any problems when I take the down grades slowly.

RE: Michigan Campgrounds...

Last summer we spent 6 weeks touring Michigan. We stayed at muncipal campgrounds on the water in the towns of Sault Ste Marie, Grand Marais, and our favorite at Munising. The later two are on Superior.

RE: West Virginia

Canaan Valley sites are on 3 loops, all private except two or three on furthest loop. All pretty big and heavily treed. Lots of trails, mini golf course right by campground, playground, bike trails, regular 18 hole golf course, skateboard park, tennis, pool, lots of deer right in camp. A great pizza about 3-4 miles from park at Big John's on the right. You can't go wrong in any WV state park, especially ones with "Resort" in their name. Good restaurant and cafe on premises too. Get reservations and pull up a sat picture. Campground is visible. It's three loops on the right about a mile from turn off main highway. X2 I would try to get two sites that are beside each other instead of across from each other, but either will work. We spend a week or two there each winter to ski and most of the time stay in site #34 at the top of the first loop where you can see across the valley floor and both ski slopes. Also, you will have deer surrounding you most evenings, along with other wild life. Also, you are within a few miles of enough natural beauty and places to see that will last you for a couple of weeks if you choose to do so.

RE: Poole Knobs campground

We have stayed at both places while also visiting our son and family in Brentwood. Poole Knobs is an older campground with smaller/hilly sites. Getting into several of them with our 43' MH is impossible without dragging severly. Our first trip there, we had a site that was up a steep grade and I wasn't going to tear up my rig, but there was a site that I would fit on that was available and I was able to change. Bottom line, I wouldn't make a reservation on a site there without knowing for sure that you would fit and get into it. Having said that, there were a few sites that that were good for a big rig. We now prefer Seven Points because there are numerous sites that we can fit on and are easy to get into. As far as closeness to Brentwood, I feel that both campgrounds are about the same time line to get there.

RE: St. Louis Mo camp ground

If you have a big rig, I would stay away from Jellystone. My MH is 43" long and I attempted to get a site there last year for a couple of nights. The first one they assigned me wasn't big enough to get off the street, then they tried to get me to go into a couple of others that I would have had my wheels off the ground to level. I was happy to get out of there without doing any damage to my rig except for a couple of tree limb scrapes. I went across the highway to the KOA and had a nice level site.

RE: Canyon De Chelly tour recommendations

one word of warning to those who stop at one of those parking lots around the rim and walk over to see the canyon. let one person stay with the vehicle at all times. especially if you see an old beat up pickup truck over in the corner with a couple of dudes sleeping in it. as far as a tour goes, I think I would prefer one taken in a 4x4 owned by the guide. bumpy Another bit of information. When you stop at some of the overlooks, you'll probably find some Indian women selling jewelry and most likely there will be a male close by. He may stroll up and ask if it's alright for him to walk with you and tell you about the canyon. If you say he can, chances are that you just bought yourself a guide and he'll ask for some money after his short guide trip is finished. It was pretty interesting when it happened to us, in that he took us beyond the areas that you were permitted and told you about the canyon including that his grandfather who lived in the canyon was the Chief, among other things! It was worth the $10 that I gave him.

RE: Canyon De Chelly tour recommendations

Our favorite tours of the Canyon are those done on horseback with an Indian guide. We have previously taken the riding tour in our vehicle with a guide and it was great also. But if you're capable of riding a horse, the horseback tours are great fun and provides an opportunity to see parts of the canyon that can't be seen in a vehicle. We have done this three times and ironically, the last two times we had the same guide. When we took the vehicle tour, we hired a guide at the visitor's center and horseback tour arrangements are made down at the mouth of the canyon.

RE: New rig... Dash AC not working.

Lost the air on my present coach's maiden voyage a couple of years ago and the problem was the compressor. It was replaced under warranty by Freightliner. It stopped cooling and I continued to run it, hoping to make it to a Freightliner facility. Problem was the compressor and the pulley had seized up with the belt continuing to go around it. Made it another 50 miles or so before the belt broke, engine got hot, and I had to be towed.

RE: Engine won't start - Battery issue

I had the same issue last week. When I left Florida to return home, my chassis batteries (6 years old) wouldn't crank enough to start the coach. I tied both banks together and got it started. After being home for a couple of weeks, I tried to start it again and if wouldn't turn over. I tied both banks together again, held them together for 10 minutes, and still nothing. I called Coachnet techs and they told me that if I had a dead cell, that it probably wouldn't work and they were right. The next morning, I called my local RV mobile tech and he verified what I had been previously told by Coachnet. Coachnet sent out a towing company with new batteries and sure enough, one of the chassis batteries had a dead cell or two. He changed out the batteries, charged me their cost for them, and everything is now back to normal.

RE: Help, Bedroom slide leaking, HR Endeavor

Also check the side molding to be sure it comes all the way to the bottom and overlaps the bottom molding. I had a similiar issue when I owned an 04 HR and that was the problem with our leaking slide. It was installed that way by the factory. Also, my slide topper didn't overlap the slide enough allowing water to run down the slide molding, it would then hit the bottom molding and go right in the coach. Fortunately, I caught it early and didn't have any flooring damage which could easily happen if it leaks very much. I put some additional molding on the bottom of the side molding and overlaped the bottom molding and used some silicone in a couple additional areas that I was concerned about. I talked to another HR owner at the time that had the same issue with his 04 due to improperly installed molding.
