RE: using generator while driving

We use the gen while driving whenever we need it -- whether A/C in the summer or to run the microwave or ... In the winter we usually don't as the furance (it's a hydrohot) works best on diesel w/engine preheat connection and the heat pumps (in the ac) don't work very well below about 40.
On our last rig we had a propane furnace that woudl run off of 12V for its electric so gen wasn't required to run it while driving if we needed more heat.
FYI, our dash heat needs "help" from the furnance to keep us comfortable at anything below about 30 outside.

RE: Country Coach Goes to Chapter 7

It's a shame when a good brand goes to liquidation due to how it is run.
There is always the hope that someone will buy the assets and start it up again as happened recently with Monaco.
At least I know that we will still have many, many more happy miles in our rig.
IMHO, it would be a great time to negotiate a deal on a new one using this news as leverage so that you had the $$$ left over to cover warranty related items.

RE: gas or diesel

We had a gasser and for short trips, occasional long trip it was fine -- had the 8.1/Allison combo.
But...when it comes to long drives, ride quality, noise, etc., nothing beats a DP with air suspension.
The downside is that I can do less work on the DP than I could on the gasser and so our cost for maint. is higher... due to my own physical limitations and the space we have available for working on it.

RE: Mushroom Networks

You might find it cheaper to go with a cell router like the MBR1000 which can take up to 2 USB modems and while not bonding them will load balance. Also allows you to connect a cable or sat or other high-speed wan connection with load balancing or failover.
I think you'll find that this will be cheaper than a binding router and if you choose a provdier with good coverage for your area you will get very good speeds.
FYI -- we have 2 of these -- one for the ouse and one for the rig and use them for personal & business use...formally a sat user (home & rig) -- and the cell approach is many times better.
What you need to look out for with the cell vs sat approach is that when you read the FAP on the sat your speed drops for a period of time but your bill does not increase. With cell modems when you hit the cap for your plan you pay a premium for additional use, but your speed remains constant. We use Verizon and have a 5Gb plan for EACH modem.

RE: Good Park near Palm Springs, CA

Depends upon what you're looking for and how much $$$ you want to spend.
We like Outdoor Resorts but it's a bit pricey. Usually only stay there when they're having a promotional; or are renting from an owner rather than from the resort.
Since we have Western Horizons membership we usually stay at either Desert Pools or Indian Waters.
IMHO, if you want to save some $ and want some green try Indian Waters. If you want to save some $ and want convenience (over the freeway) and don't mind a more 'rustic' place then Desert Pools.

RE: Large motorhome question

FWIW, our turning radius in our 40' is about the same than in our prior 33' gas rig; the reasons are that the wheel cut is sharper and with the tag up I can further reduce the effective wheelbase.
Since I have I make several 90 deg turns along tree lined road to get to our driveway and it's the driveway that's our challenge to get into!

RE: Cradlepoint MBR 1000 or 1200

We have 2 mbr1000's -- one in the house and one in the rig. We regularly use 2 different USB modems without a problem and with load balancing on.
The mbr1000 + 2 usb modems are our only internet connectivity for personal/business use.

RE: How does the US Gear Toad Brake System Work?

Works well. Have had the same one for 6 1/2 years on the same toad (over 40k mi towing) and had it moved form our last rig to the current one.

RE: HELP - Im stranded!

I would think it is a problem wit the ride control valve...I woudl strongly suggest having a truck or rv techlook at it as you can get into a lot of trouble (deadly) if you don't know what you're doing.
If it were an airline or the compressor then I would think you'd see a lot of fluctuation on the gauge.

RE: Home Theatre Systems for Dummies -- Help

Our rig came with surround sound and the movie experience in the rig far surpasses that in our house. If you enjoy movies, go for 5.1 or 6.1 sound. You will need the speakers of course and to get high quality while keeping costs down, look for a Samsung BD1250 (?) that is blu-ray with built in radio & surround sound that will accept digital audio -- we feed the audio from our sat receiver.
I don't think you will find that the sound bars will work very well in the limited space avaialbel in an RV -- they usually need more area in order to simulate the surround soudn experience.

RE: Accident & insurance

No. Once your insurance pays you it is their problem to collect from other parties.
Good luck.

RE: tire blowout air brake loss

I meant to say axle, not drive line.
The point is that with the loss of air pressure the brakes are applied as the emergency brakes are held open by air pressure and closed by springs vs when you press on the brake which uses air pressure to apply the brakes.
On our rig the emergency brakes get applied to both the tag and the drive axles.

RE: Help - slides stuck extended

Possibly an ignition interlock or a micro-switch that is stuck?
Also, have you confirmed that you have enough fluid?

RE: tire blowout air brake loss

If you lost air pressure your emergency brakes will come on which engage on the drive-shaft.

RE: Cell Phone Booster for Home

We've used (diff home) a WIlson amp with a directional ant that worked great. Downside is that is was a wired vs wirelss unit.
I would suggest checking out the 3GStore.com site and they also have a great forum where you can get excellent information.

RE: Super C vs DP

Doubt that you would notive the 5000 lb except maybe pulling up a steep grade.
I would be more concerned about service records, oil analysis, do they both have air brakes, air suspension, etc.
Also, you should check the turning radius of each.

RE: PALM SPRINGS CA. 'RESERVATIONS OR??'

You may get lucky but personally I would make a reservation since there will still be a lot of snowbirds in the area.
I would try Indian Waters or Desert Pools.
