RE: 5th Wheel to TT

You won't like hooking and un-hooking. 5th wheels don't need to be hooked and unhooked? Camp on!

RE: Best Florida campgrounds

We spent the better part of two years traveling down the west coast of Fla, into the Keys, and up the east of Fla. as far north at Hilton Head SC looking for the spot we wanted to spend three months. We spent the entire summer prior to our first trip researching campgrounds, locations, and activities; and we chose about 12 different campgrounds based on our research. Based on our first year's trip, we picked the place we liked best for a month for our second year; but we continued our search for a better campground for the other two months. After our first two years, we decided St. Augustine was the spot for many reasons, which were important to us ... but might not be for you. The best way for you to find your "perfect place" is to try many with an eye to your own particular wants and needs. I'll be happy to give you any further info you might want if you'd like to PM me. Camp on!

The 18" of snow on Cape Cod

The 18" of snow that arrive on Cape Cod last night remind me why I head south on New Year's Day for three months. I'd leave earlier, but I'm a sucker for the Thanksgiving and Christmas experiences, parties, decorations, etc. with family, grandkids, and friends. In the meantime, we start the countdown for our ETD of 0400 on New Year's Day. Look out below; here we come. Camp on!

RE: S.Florida...Wheres all the Snowbirds?

While many snowbirds come down early in October, I think many stay home until after Christmas as we do. We're still not ready to give up Thanksgiving and Christmas with kids and grandkids. But have no fear; we'll be on our way New Year's Day. Camp on!

RE: Traveling with furnace running

While DW is checking into the campground, I run in and turn on the heat. By the time we've back into the site, leveled everything off, hooked up the utilities, etc., our TT is pretty well warmed up. We've never run with the heat on, but I suppose it's possible. IMHO, it's just a waste of propane. Camp on!

Happy Hour Idea

After reading another thread about Happy Hours, I had this idea. How about if snowbirds everywhere offered their site for just ONE happy hour each season? The rules are simple: everybody had to bring his/her own chair, beverage, and story ONCE each season. Imagine spreading this practice over the RGV, Florida, or any other place snowbirds gather? May I request each session begin with a salute "Here's to the Painting_Teacher", unless a fee of $5 is paid to said Painting_Teacher ... said fee forgiven IF every particant promises to indulge in TWO beverages of his/her own choice. Camp on!

RE: RV park near Ponte Vedra,FL for MH?

North Beach Camp Resort in St. Augustine is an easy 15-mile ride down A1A along the ocean and dunes. Forgot to mention that ride is scenic; without traffic; no lights, malls; with plenty of places to pass slower moving cars. Camp on!

RE: What do you use for your front patio surface?

We used indoor/outdoor carpeting for a couple of years, but we could never really get the dirt out because of the rug's density. Then we bought some RV patio pads, and they're great ... easy to sweep and keep dirt free. The 9' X 12' pads cost about $50, and the 6' X 9' was around $40. Camp on!

RE: Campgrounds with Marinas- East Coast?

Take a look at the KOA in New Bern NC. We've stopped there twice on the way home from snowbirding and loved both the campground and the town. Camp on!

RE: Cape Cod to Bar Harbor?

Don't take Route 95 (Rt 128) around Boston there's a lot of construction. Better to take Route 495 around Boston recently paved, and avoid rush hour on both routes. Bob Rte 495 is 30 miles longer going from the Cape to Maine, and I've never encountered severe traffic on Rte 95 (aka 128) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.)in spite of 100's of trips along that route. Camp on!

RE: Cape Cod to Bar Harbor?

Good advice so far. Plan your trip between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on I-95, and you'll have no trouble. I-93 is out because of a propane restriction in the tunnel. Camp on!

RE: Rig friendly motels

So, you have an RV and yet will be staying in the motel? I am sorry I am not answering your question however, my curiosities have taken over.. For the first time in 5 trips,we're doing the hotel thing for the following: 1st year stop at Cherry Hill MD was too short a day and too expensive; 2nd year at Prince William in Dumfries VA OK because we were in Site #1 that allowed us to remain hooked up; 3rd year we had to unhook in the rain because the "only site available" was too short to remain hooked up (hooking up in the rain the following morning and the girl's nasty disposition didn't help either); 4th yr at the Fredericksburg KOA also had to unhook because the two sites we were given were so uneven I couldn't get level front to back without unhooking. This year for $30 more we'll do the hotel thing and use the restaurant on their grounds. Hope this helps you understand why some people make the decision they do. Camp on! RE: New Years Day Travel? - Mass to Fla -

I'm betting it will be THE best day to travel. Leaving the Cape at 4 a.m. and actually thinking of going over the Geo. Wash. Bridge rather than the Tappan Zee, which we've taken every year so far. I'm thinking 8 a.m. on New Year's Day should be very light traffic. Hit Fredericksburg VA by 3 p.m. The following day to Santee SC should also be light since we'll be south of DC and the middle day of a 3-day weekend. Third day also easy on Sunday for short 5-hr drive and we're there. Wave if you pass us. Camp on!

RE: Brunswick, GA

Blythe Island County Park is just up the street from Golden Isles, and I'd stay there (again) instead. When we drove past GI a couple of years ago, it looked old, tired, and run down. Camp on!

RE: Dodges Marketing Director should be FIRED

Two weeks ago I was at my local Dodge dealer attempting to get info on the '10 Rams and was told by the salesperson "They aren't even making them yet!" Maybe she meant "shipping" but she did say "making." In any event .... strange. Camp on!

RE: florida keys

Four years ago we spent a week at Knight's Key on Marathon. The facilities were very tired and very old then but were clean. They had no sewer hookups but did have a pump-out wagon that came around for an additional charge. We had a harbor-front site which permitted us to back up right to the water's edge where we saw manatees just about every day. The campground's location allowed for walking on the old 7-mile bridge. It was very expensive, very worn; but the location was stunning. Camp on!

RE: When first time snowbirding.....

Our first winter, we tried about a dozen campgrounds a week at a time down the west coast of Fla, into the Keys, up the east coast of Fla, ending up in Hilton Head SC. We chose a place we liked best to spend a month in for the second year and spent the rest of our three months continuing to look for a better place; we didn't find one. As a result, our third winter (fourth and upcoming as well) have been spent at the same place. Each of us like different venues, campgrounds, activities, climates, and crowds. We found ours by searching all over Fla, and we enjoyed that search. IMHO, it's the only way to make sure; and we're exceedingly happy with our choice. Good luck ... camp on!

RE: 3.42 Gears????

Not sure if this will help in your particular case, but I was looking at some 3/4 ton pickup combinations lately and going from a 3.73 rear end to a 4.10 increased the towing capacity by 2,000 lbs. I'm guessing dropping down would limit your ability proportionally. Camp on!

RE: The effects of uncontrolled sway.

Gunpilot77 says "The need for sway control? I've read it and still say sway control is not needed on a properly set up trailer that has an adequate tow vehicle. Well over 100,000 miles of pulling TTs and enclosed cargo trailers of all sizes and I have yet to see a need for it." Unless someone can come up with a reason TO NOT have sway control, doesn't it make sense to have it? I'd rather spend the $400 to get it and not need it than go without it. Camp on!
