My 1998 K1500 now has 337,000 miles and still original front bearings. No play and no noise.

RE: Can this be right? Laramie longhorn crew 4x4 1500

I don't know about Dodge, but the cargo rating on Chevy's is in addition to passengers. What I mean is If my Chevy's cargo sticker says 983 lbs. That is in addition to passengers. The Chevy accounts for a 150 lb person in every seating position. So my truck seats 5 so that is 750 lbs and if my cargo sticker says 983 lbs(I can't remember what it actually says) then I had 750 lbs to that which is 1,733 lbs and that is my cargo and passenger capacity. I have researched as well as done the math with the door sticker and glove box stickers and it is accurate. When I subracted the weight of the truck from my GVWR it was within a few pounds of my calculated cargo capacity. I have 3 Chevy trucks right now and it was accurate on all of them. If I only haul 2 passengers I would have an additional 450 Lbs. of cargo capacity over the 983 lbs. on the sticker. I may not have explained it very well, but that is how mine works.

RE: Ethanol in fuel issues

I read several times about people having issues with the gas left in stored equipment for long periods of time. I have only had an issue one time and that is when I added stabil to my gas. None of my two stroke engines would run until I cleaned the carbs. Never used stabil again and have zero issues. My mowers, chain saws and weed trimmers fire right up after sitting in the shed for the 4-6 fall/winter months. I must be lucky. Oh don't get me wrong. I would prefer to run Non-Oxy in everything, especially my truck.

RE: Ethanol in fuel issues

In Minnesota some stations sell Premium Non-Oxy fuel. It is for off-road vehicles, Vintage cars and motorcycles only. All other fuel for licensed motor vehicles contains 10% Ethanol. I did have a fuel line on my weed trimmer get ruined from Ethonal, but other than that it has been a non issue. I try to run the Non-Oxy in my Atv,s and such, but most often I don't. I will say that the fuel mileage is not as good with the 10% Ethanol. I didn't believe it until I went on vacation in 2005 and put almost 4,000 miles on my truck. I logged every tank of fuel and hand calculated mileage and when I ran Non-Oxy my mileage was 1-2 mpg better every time. I know there are nay-sayers that don't believe it, but I seen it first hand and that's good enough for me.

RE: Buying an F150 - Eco-Boost or not?

Premium gas while towing with the Ecoboost? Yuck! I would hate having to buy premium. (But then, I tow more than 20,000 miles per year due to work, so fuel is a major expense.) You don't have to but around here 87 is 10% ethanol while premium is non-eth. The extra margin of safety is nice and does seem to be a little stronger when pulling. I get 5-10% better mileage (0.5-1mpg) towing so it pays for itself. I think it's primarily due to the fact that it's non-eth vs E10 though. The only gasoline in Minnesota that does not contain ethonal is the premium fuel sold at some stations. Vintage cars and motorcycles are the only vehicles licensed for the street it can be put in. There are even stickers on the pumps that dispense the non-oxy fuel stating the law. All other Regular, Mid and Premium fuel in Minnesota contains 10% ethonal.

RE: leaving key in running position on 2011 chevy D/A

I would think leaving the key on long enough to discharge the batteries would shorten the life of the alternator. It is my understanding that the alternator is designed to maintain the battery charge while using the accessories and not to actually charge a discharged battery and run the truck. Any alternator I have purchased states that the battery must be fully charged or damage may occur. With that said doing it occasionally may be harmless, but repeatedly doing so may shorten the alternator's life. I may be totally off base, but that is what I have heard as well as read.

2003 silverado 2500HD transmission issue

I have a 2500HD with the 6.0 and 4L80E transmission. Recently I noticed it will intermittently shift soft/slow, but not slip. It started on the 2-3 shift where it would seem to take longer than normal to complete the shift and it was worse when cold. Now it will do it on the 1-2 and 3-4 as well, but not everytime.Sometimes it shifts completly normal. If I put it in tow haul mode it shifts perfect everytime. I have a call into Nelson Performance to see if it could be something with the tune even though it has been in the truck for years.I dropped the pan and it looked like new so I cleaned it up and replaced the filter and that made no difference.I talked to the dealer and they said it is a pressure issue. I talked to three different transmission shops and got three different answers if you can believe that. One shop said pressure control solenoid which I don't think it can be, One said it is in the PCM software that is controling the shift timing and the other said I either need to install a shift kit or a remanufactered valve body. Has anyone else had this issue on their truck. I don't want to just throw money at it.

RE: Accident while on trip.

Got to watch your rear view mirror. Scares me everytime I'm stopped in construction or stop lights, drivers coming up at a high rate of speed. Always try to give myself a car lenght in front of me so I can move foward a little, pop the 4 ways on and hope for the best. I do the same thing. I do the same thing as well. In fact I have actually driven onto the shoulder next to the car infront of me and the car behind me was only about 2 feet from hitting the car I drove beside. I sware nobody pays attention anymore. I see them eating bowls of cereal while driving.I watch behind me as much as I do in front of me when I am in traffic.

RE: Problem with TV while camping! Any ideas?

My 03 2500HD did that once and the dealer said it was just a dirty wheel speed sensor if I recall. Mine happened in the slushy spring and they said it was common and it could have been ice. That was years ago so I can't remember the details. Mine actually reset itself before the dealer looked at it and it has never happened again.

RE: 2002 Chevy 2500 Starting Issue

My guess is the passlock security is acting up. mine is an 03 so it is probably a little different, but it has happened to me as well. I actually had to go through a relearn procedure. Not possitive that is your problem, but it my be. GM has used passlock on trucks since about 1997 or 1998. I know the Pontiac Grand Ams, Chevy Malibu's and Impala's are plagued with passlock issues. My Grand am disables the injectors when the problem occurs. I bypassed the resistor in the ignition and haven't had a problem yet. I think the trucks may disable the ignition, but not sure.
