RE: Surge Protector

Here is a shot of my portable with the chain and lock in place. In case you are wondering you cannot slip the chain up and over the pedestal as the lid (not seen in this pic), will block it. Unless you are willng to destroy the pedestal (not likely for a $100 item), you won't get the surge protecter. If there is any chance of rain I just hang the white plastic cover for the LP cylinders over the pedestal :C http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/ii362/Captottersea/CIMG5114.jpg Thanks for the photo, I decided on the exact one you have pictured from Randy at Bestconverter. I can lock the same way.

RE: Moving to the Dark Side

Come up to the PNW spring rally and show it off there. When and where?

Getting ready to take it on its maiden voyage...the driveway! Like the size of it compared to the TC, but the TC was so easy to take anywhere.

RE: Looking for opinions on smaller TT

Have you looked at Arctic Fox? They make some pretty nice stuff.

RE: Surge Protector

Are the permanent ones fairly easy to install? I am better than average mechanically inclined.

RE: Surge Protector

I like the idea of a portable model in case I ever decide on a different RV. How do you ensure anti-theft?

Surge Protector

What are your thoughts on surge protection for the main power to the unit? I see they sale ones for around $100 designed for 30 amps I believe.

RE: New Arctic Fox 22GQ

Thanks for all of the great info. I actually sent the same questions to the dealer and they called me to answer every question. On the wizard, it has one. It does have a crank as well. Thanks for the propane tip. I think Uhauls pricing is slightly high, might check around to see other options.

RE: getting the best price on a TT

I agree with the 30% starting point. We just bought a new 2012 model and did slightly better than that...

RE: New Arctic Fox 22GQ

Is it really called the GQ? Lol, someone has a sense of humor. Congrats on the new rig! Here's to many happy memories being made. That is what it says!

RE: New Arctic Fox 22GQ

The fun of a new rig. MY roof is not covered and in same town as you. Never had any issue. But many are, so personal choice. Read up on your elec stuff so you don't mess anything up. I think what you have is "smart charge" technology which is very good and wish I had it. So where is the maiden trip to? Not sure yet. Probably the driveway first! We are thinking around La Conner in the next few weeks. Suggestions?

RE: New Arctic Fox 22GQ

We just picked up our new 2012 Arctic Fox today! We used to own a Northern-Lite truck camper but sold it to purchase a house. That was six months ago. We wanted to get back to our camping ways and decided to go with a travel trailer for the added space. I found out quickly that I need to practice my backing up! A few questions for those who own or know about the unit: 1) The equipment list shows a charge wizard. I assume this keeps the batteries topped off without over charging them? How would I tell if it actually has one?Check your converter. If there is a small LED on the front with the picture of a wizard on it you have one. If not there pretty cheap to buy and only take a few minutes to install 2) There is a battery disconnect switch. Would I use that in winter or when I don't want the batteries to run down? While storing I will probably keep it powered up from the house. Will the batteries charge with it off?You would only turn it off if you were going to leave it parked unplugged for a period of time. plugged in to the house leave it on. 3) It came with stabilizing jacks. How do you all crank them down/up? I was told to get a rechargeable drill to do it. Should it come with a hand crank?Should have a hand crank. But depending on the brand, ie hex or ball socket a cordless drill is ideal for setting them down with. 4) Do I need to winterize it if I have it plugged in and a small space heater running in it on low?Was not winterized from the factory? Check with the dealer. Most do it at the first cold snap 5) Should I cover it for the winter? Hugh debate on this subject. It boils down to personal preference. I have had mine covered for a total of three weeks in about 30 years, never again. Just too much of a hassle for little benefit. These are my first questions. Again, I am not new to RVing, but these are some things I am not sure about. Thanks! I assume you probably bought it from APache? Talk to them about the jack handle and the winterizing issue first off. Congratulations Northwood is still building some of the best RV's on the market in their price range. Enjoy. Yes, thats where where we got it. I sent them a note on it. It was winterized, I was wondering if I really need to do it at all, if I leave a small heater in it. I never winterized the NL camper, just drained everything and kept a heater and dehumidifier in it.

Moving to the Dark Side

Everyone, It has been great being a part of the truck camper community and RV.net forums. I have not been on here in awhile due to moving. We sold our Northern-Lite in order to move, but always knew we would get back into the RVing life style at some point. Well, that point came last weekend. We purchased a travel trailer and will pick it up later this week. We spent some time deciding between makes/models and ended up with the Arctic Fox 22G. We just happened to get a brand new 2012 model for a much reduced price. Can't wait to get out there! Planning a first voyage at the end of March...glad to be back!
