RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

There is a 1974 Lark TEC motorhome brochure for sale on Ebay right now. It's not the same year but probably close enough.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Griff and Eyeteeth, My ignition control is located just above the chassis battery on the firewall and I notice it has been leaking too. I think I better get a spare. I would just replace it, but it sounds like that might be just as risky (if the new ones fail prematurely).

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

I have been using dielectric grease on light bulbs for years. It also is great for battery terminals and any other electric connections that tend to corrode. And in a RV most electrical connections tend to corrode. I even use it on flashlight battery connections. If the batteries leak it protects the connectors.

RE: 84 Shasta Motorhome Rebuild/ Repair

Any idea where I can find the "hard" channel molding that goes around all the outside compartment doors? For my '88 Shasta? Maybe here: http://www.rvpartscountry.com/Rv-Molding-Trim_c_267-2-1.html

Phantom59, In most auto parts stores you can find lens repair kits. They won't make it look new but they will seal the hole so it doesn't leak.

I do remember the bushings being hard to lock--I think I used pliers. You sure don't want them coming loose in a rainstorm.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

alleykatz, Here is another item to add to your list. Replace the plastic windshield wiper bushings. You will have to remove the panel under the windshield to do this. The bushings in my '79 were completely disintegrated. They come in packages of 2 and you will need 2 packages (Dorman 49440, Wiper Linkage Bushings). There are also two tubing connectors that connect the windshield washer tubing sections right at the base of the wiper blades. They should be replaced also. I don't know if you can get exact replacements at the dealer--I just used straight connectors that I got at an auto parts store. And, replace your wiper blades and get a spare set of wiper blades while you are at it. Better to fix them now, than have them go out when you are on the road.

RE: Wifi hotspots

If you have cell service you can get the app PdaNet. You plug the phone into the computer/laptop and it uses the cell phone like a router and does NOT use data. I'm sorry, but it cannot work without using the phone's data plan.

Missjaymie, A word of caution. Catalytic heaters of that age usually used asbestos for the burning mat. As you know asbestos is not good for your lungs and asbestos in a vehicle would get a lot of vibration which would tend to break loose more asbestos particles. I would suggest checking into this.

And more fun... also broke the temperature control cable. That happened to me too. I haven't tried to fix it yet so I will be interested in your progress on this.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Danpaine, Kudos to you for doing that! If they have shore-power, then perhaps you could configure it to handle the cold (add tape heaters to prevent freezing of liquids, and maybe some insulation around water lines, etc.).

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

I have regular black zip ties that have been holding a sprinkler pipe to a fence for about 8 or 10 years. This year two of them failed (out of about 10). YMMV.

RE: battery/electrical problem.

Older converters like mine (79), only charge at 3 amps. If you are still using the 12v system, you may be even using more than 3 amps so the battery continues to drain even with the generator running.

RE: led lighting

Try searching the forum for LED. There are a number of old discussions on this.

RE: PLEASE HELP..WINDOW LEAK..

As others have mentioned, it could well be the running lights. These lights are designed to leak, or rather drain, but leak they do. There are several holes inside the lens for the wires and and screws to pass through the fixture, and there are drain holes also. The problem is that when they are not mounted on a vertical surface then the water leaks into the hole in the cab-over where the wires exit. Also, when driving in rain, water can be driven up into the drain holes of the fixture. I used ProFlex RV caulking to seal all the holes in the light fixure and also around the fixture. Try this to see if it solves the problem. It really should be done on all cab-over RVs due to the slant design. Oh, and I recommend never using Silcone on an RV. It doesn't stick all that well. More importantly, you can't retouch a Silicone caulking job since Silcone will not even stick to itself (nor will any other caulking stick to it). IMHO ProFlex RV is a much better caulking for RVs.

Rehoppe, I think you may have misunderstood--I did at first. Ipodhappy is selling the RV not considering buying it.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

I have added a second charging circuit--so basically the house batteries remain untouched when I'm driving. Please expound, what do you mean by a "second charging circuit?"

RE: spark arrestors

You might try some PB Blaster. This is like WD40 only it seems to work better. You may have to leave it soaking for a day or so.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

JoninFountain, Looks like a great buy. I would never recommend using Silicone on an RV. The big problem is that it doesn't hold up well to UV, and absolutely nothing sticks to it, even more Silicone. So, if it ever needs a touch up, instead you have to remove ALL the previous caulking (hard to do) and re-caulk the whole area. I highly recommend ProFlex RV caulking. You may have to purchase it online as it seems to hard to find in RV places, at least here in San Diego. As you can guess from the name it is specifically for RVs and it sicks even to oily, wet, or frozen surfaces (although I don't recommend that except for emergencies). It is also even more flexible and elastic than Silicone.
