RE: Another 1/2 ton question

ive got an 06 chev 1/2 ton ext cab with the heavyduty z71 suspension (bigger brakes) and trail tow package and like yours, 9600 gvw. my trailer is 26' total length, 6500 max weight, about 700 on the tongue. with my trailer loaded with water and supplies and a couple hundred pounds of firewood in the bed, i certainly knew the trailer was back there. it would pull fine, but the truck would squat slightly with the load, even with wt distribution system. i added the airbags on the rear axel which helped greatly. however, i dont think i would want to try to tow anything heavier than what i currently have. if i was to go as heavy as you are thinking, i think i would have to seriously consider a 3/4 ton, and heavy duty at that. good luck

RE: What devices are you using for leveling?

make a plumb bob. get a small plastic hook with 2 side tape. stick it onto front of your trailer directly over and about 18 inches above frame. tie on a piece of clear fishing line with a pinch weight on the other end that will hang just above the trailer frame, without touching it. level your trailer and put a white dot of paint where the led weight hangs over the frame. this is your plumb mark. now when you camp, jack the front up or down until the weight is over the mark. you are now level. however, i do like the shotglass suggestion better. :)

RE: Bad bearings?

just by your visual inspection of top of tire tilted in, i would say either the axle is overloaded, or a bearing is bad. if the axle is overloaded, it would affect both tires. i vote for the bearing. you say that you have to go back to get it when it is fixed. what are they fixing, the bearing. it is simple to check and replace. did they do that? if no help from camping world, take it to another shop.

RE: AWNING CARE

sorry, i failed to mention that the damage has become so bad that i am in fact replacing the awning. just wanted an opinion if the uv blockers will help the new material last longer. thanks Ufda

AWNING CARE

Ive got a 6 yr old trailer and the awning is starting to peal where it meets the trailer. too much sun exposure. i dont want to put on plastic covers because they have to be continually removed and installed for travelling. my question is, do the UV protectants sold specifically for awnings work? thanks

RE: shopping for a new R.V.

ive got the same 2006 set up, same wheel base, motor, 373 gears, etc. i tow a 4600 unloaded 24ft trailer and it is the most enjoyable tow ever. when i fill it up with water, and everything else needed for a long stay (dry camp), it is probably at the 6000 or so point. you REALLY know it is back there then. i also have the 9500 max GVW on the truck. i would definitely NOT want to tow anything approaching that mark. i tell the wife that if she wants more luxury and length, she has to buy me the 2500hd. we are sticking with the 24. i think you are just going to have to downsize.
