RE: A/C units

Are you reading the replies to your posts? You seem to be ignoring the advice offered. YOU NEED 50AMP CURRENT TO RUN BOTH AIR CONDITIONERS ATTHE SAME TIME. Try running one AC at a time.

RE: diagnostic reader

Yes, OBDII As mentioned in other posts, large diesel chassis (e.g. all DPs I believe) do not use OBDII. Unfortunately there aren't any very cheap options for DPs (for OBDII, you can get a cheap adapter for under $20) but ScanGaugeD is probably the cheapest option, VMSpc will likely give you more information but you'll need a laptop or something. Other than that, I'm not aware of any cheap options - I've searched but just haven't found any cheap option for the connection cable and then you'd still need software (VMSpc might work with other cable). I used an old WIN98 laptop for my VMSpc. You will need their proprietary cable that has box that translates the data stream into a form that a serial/usb input can read. Cost for the cable is around $400, but there are good buys on the internet. VMSpc allows you to choose between around 20 different gauges. each in its own sizable and movable window. Here's my custom screen. http://home.roadrunner.com/~kwildman/v2a.jpg http://home.roadrunner.com/~kwildman/v3a.jpg http://home.roadrunner.com/~kwildman/v5a.jpg

RE: Siping tires

Don't forget to insist on them filling the tyres with nitrogen too. I'd fill them with Helium and make the coach lighter. :B :B :B :B :B

RE: Exhaust break-- transmission shift down

Another option is to have any Allison dealer re-program the Allison ECU for a higher pre-select gear. While 2nd and 4th are common pre-select gears, you can choose any gear for the transmission to downshift TOWARD (as Peralko said). The higher the gear chosen the more choices the driver can make BUT the more input he has to make, as gears lower than the pre-select gear require the use of the down arrow to get to them. Because of health issues I haven't driven the coach in two years but as I recall you can change the preselect, once it's activated by pressing the up arrow to get to a higher pre-select than the standard 2nd gear. In other words, my recollection is engage the Pac brake, it pre-selects 2nd and then I "up-arrow" to whatever higher gear I want. So, Brett, is my memory failing or am I remembering it correctly? :@ :W

RE: 22.5 tires inflation

Sorry, your dealer is either a clairvoyant or an idiot. I highly doubt he is clairvoyant (although he did tell me that he knew I would love the coach I bought...) And, I think after 35 years in the "biz", as a "working" dealer... (he actually crawls under these things to do the work himself...) He's become a lot less than an idiot than when he first started as a line mechanic, building travel trailers fourty five-years ago. He also qualified his theory by saying, "You can spend a lot of time fiddling around checking weights and tire pressures, or, you can get on the road and enjoy to world instead..." I think his point was to go with what is an exceptable practice and what you know... and practice good maintenence... BTW: I found in my owners manual, that the recommended pressure for the original Goodyear tires that came on the coach was 85 PSI rear and 80 PSI front... (I have Roadmasters by Cooper on there now and the recommended pressure for the weight is between 90 and 95 PSI for 26,000 pounds... (whch is weird to me because no one tire is going to handle the entire 26K... (So much for tables...) That is pretty big presumption on the part of the tire manufacturer... especially with not knowing if there are singles, dualies or even a tag axle... (with singles or duals) (Neither of which I have..) Since load/pressure tables give figures for both single and dual tires I wonder if you ever looked at one. BTW, you trust the engineers who design the tires but not the recommendations that they make for proper use? :h

RE: New tires differant PSI??

For whatever it's worth, our coach has Bridgestone 245x70r19.5 load range "G" tires, and Bridgestone's load inflation chart states a minimum of (80psi) for their load range "G" tires. The tire sidewall reflects MAX load inflation-110psi. after weighing the coach we found 80psi is more than adequate to support its weight. Good luck and safe travels This is the most important factor. You can't use the Load/Inflation tables without knowing the four corner weights. For each axle you use the heavier side for the chart. Typically people add an additional 5 or 10 psi to the table recommendation to give a little reserve. The best part of using a higher load rated tire s that you don't need as much pressure for the same weight and you get a softer ride. For four corner weighing you need a flat platform truck scale with lots of room around it to maneuver. I use a local grain elevator. Many moving companies have similar scales. Call Public Scales and ask. Weigh the coach when fully loaded for travel. Record the results. You might want to read my notes on tire selection in my signature below.

RE: Getting Ultravan #362 ready for 2013 CORSA Convention in MI.

Tony: I had the floor up front out a number of times on #338 and never had to touch the paneling. I don't see why yours would be different. Update: The list of things needing done before I can take this coach on the July trip is growing. I removed the front bucket seats yesterday. I will not be able to use them. The PO installed rear mini-van seats and they have no adjustments. This is what the old bucket seats looked like. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8082/8294912759_54c0c15d09_z.jpg After I removed the seats I took a look at the steering column. As you can see in this picture; the steering column leans to the left. It also places the steering wheel much closer to the side window than any other Ultravan we own or I have seen in pictures. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8072/8294912639_28441eae12_z.jpg I removed the nuts and bracket holding the column to the coffee bar. I wanted to see if the bolts on the left side of the steering gear box might have come out; allowing it to lean to one side like it is. However, I was not able to straighten up the column. I’ll have to remove all the paneling under the coffee bar to be able to lift up the plywood floor to see just what is going on with the steering gear box. I also found that the coffee bar is rotting away and will need to be replaced before my trip. The coffee bar is also used to support the steering column in place. I hate to be driving down the highway and have the rest of the coffee bar fall apart and I’m left holding a steering wheel in my hand. ggg Oh and I purchased an electronic cruise control for UV362. I hope I can install it before the trip. It sure will make the 3,000 to 3,500 mile round trip much easier. All this and anything else I find – needs to be fixed before June.

RE: New Member / First Time RV'er / Advice Needed

I took a somewhat different approach. I bought an older, high end coach in very good condition. My 1996, 35 ft, Safari listed at over $150,000 when few coaches cost over $100,000. Bought it for the cost of well-equipped new mini-van in 2007. It had 59,000 miles on it. Wide body, 300hp Diesel, Allison 6-speed, solid wood cabinetry, large pass-through bays, etc. See the pre-purchase check list in my signature below, and pictures to see what you could get for under $40K. :C

RE: cpap machine

I use a ResMed CPAP. I just plug in. No problem. but I do turn down the humidifier. House batteries are two Interstate U2200s. If I'm in a location where I can't run the generator in the evening I'm very sparing using 12V - no TV, minimal lighting.

RE: Trading MH from Canada into US?

I bought a car from a Canadian. U.S. Customs demanded a Canadian Export certificate. I was able to get around that since the seller was a snow bird returning to Canada with the car.

RE: Class A Front Window heat loss - need advice

We put a Reflectix sun shield in the front window on cold nights. The Mylar coated bubble wrap works pretty well as an insulator. I made little pockets at the top with scrap Reflectix and used 1/4" dowels to hold the material in place. http://home.roadrunner.com/~kwildman/screen1.jpg http://home.roadrunner.com/~kwildman/screen3.jpg

This might help with driving: Driving hints For backing you might want to use a rear view camera. Some information about an inexpensive but excellent system in my signature below.

RE: Diesel HP-how much is enough?

My '96 35ft coach weighs about 24,000lbs. Standard engine was the CAT 3126 (7.2L)250hp with Allison 6 speed. Perfecty adequate for any road. My coach has the optioinal 300hp. Both have 840ft/lbs of torque. Mine just goes up hills a little faster but gets a little lower fuel mi;eage
