RE: It's going to be cold this next camping weekend!!!

This past weekend, we left the snow/rain/cold and went to Zion National Park. It was so beautiful! The weather was sunny and highs around 70 degrees. The nights were cool but we had our furnace set to come on. Also, I love, love, love the heated mattresses in my Roo!!!

RE: Big trip in the Roo! GNP, YNP and GTNP! UPDATE! PICS!

I have been waiting to hear a report about your trip. :) I am glad you had a great time and that the "issues" weren't too bad. Yes, post pics when you can. Happy Camping!

RE: Finally, a big trip in the Roo! GNP, YNP and GTNP!

Have a wonderful trip! Those places are great. I think it is terrific that you are taking your wife's grandma. Those will be special memories. And, I think it is great you are taking a lot of days to do the trip. Be sure to let us know how it goes. Happy Camping!

Sounds like you got some good advice here. I don't have any to offer. I just wanted to see hello and welcome.

RE: Who Does Geocaching?

Ha - it SNOWED this weekend exactly where we were camping and geocaching the weekend before! Yeah, Utah. :)

RE: Who Does Geocaching?

iPhone app called "geocaching" is awesome! It is by geocaching.com that we use to enter the caches. Geocaching is so much fun. Our teenagers have their own GPS units. Sometimes on the rare occasion we have nothing going on, we jump in the car and find a few caches around our home. We went geocaching last week when we were camping. One took us all around a ski resort (Utah) and it was tons of fun.

RE: Rain??? Help!

Like most everyone posted, go and have fun. Be prepared to cook inside if the weather doesn't cooperate at eating time. We always have games and books with us. I really like the idea of visiting a museum, mall, etc. We have a hybrid Roo and we enjoy listening to the rain on the canvas. Never had a leak. Enjoy... and post when you get back. :)

RE: S'mores Variation = really good

We used Crunch candy bars in place of Hersheys. They are delicious.

RE: Do you............?

I do too! And, I am surprised that my grocery food bill is so much more when we are camping. Oh well, we sure are having a great time! Camped 17 days so far since May 29, 09

RE: Need help with packing/organization/lists

I love lists! I am like most of the responders, I have a list I put together on my computer. I have the "standard" items to check off and then I have space at the bottom to add things that I might need just for that campout. (4th of July decorations, for example.) I have our trailer fully stocked with all the supplies we need/want and that is great. Things like our lawn chairs have to be packed because we use them during the week. But they are on the list so they won't be forgotten. :) Before we leave, we load clothes, food, and double check the list to see if anything "walked out" of the trailer. Happy Camping!

RE: Do you camp without electricity.

Here in Utah, 99% of the campgrounds, at least in the mountains, have no electrical hookups. However, we have never had to use our A/C because of the high altitude and dry climate. It is wonderful! We get such a nice breeze through the trailer with both ends unzipped. In fact, the nights get pretty cool here. In June we even had to turn on the furnace at night when we were at 8000+ feet and we never ran the battery out. (Our Roo doesn't have a generator.) Happy Camping!

RE: Considering a Hybrid and have a question

We bought a 2002 Rockwood Roo 17, single axle two months ago. We have already camped in it 13 days and it is wonderful. This one has no problems, everything works, and there is no leaking and no damage. We love it!

RE: 12 V Bunk Fans

Our Roo came with those fan/light as well. The fan stirs the air quite nicely and the light is great for DH and I when we read in bed and the kids are at the other end of the trailer asleep.

RE: Need new menu ideas for this coming weekend.

Oh, I need some ideas as well! I will be using our Dutch ovens. One idea I had is pulled bbq beef sandwiches. I will put the roast and sauce in the Dutch oven and let it cook. I will probably put it on the Camp Chef stove.

RE: Why we Camp & why the RV lifestyle will survive this storm!

That was great, thanks for posting. We just got back from a wonderful weekend of camping. It was so relaxing and peaceful. We didn't even want to go home! We hiked the beautiful mountains, rested, ate great food, and stared at the campfire for who-knows-how-long. It was awesome. We bought our "Roo" in order to spend extra special time with our teenagers. Like you said, time flies by way too fast. We are having a wonderful time camping and I am truly blessed.
