RE: Installed Digital Thermostat in 2009 Jayco w/ Pics

While you are there, plug the hole with fiberglass insulation. The empty space in the wall will leave either cold or hot air behind the thermostat affect the room temp. WDP

RE: A/C seems weak

Start here- clean the filter every 2 days before it begins to look fuzzy. While you have the filter out take a flash light and check the evaporator coil for lint build up, clean with a fine nylon brush. Keep the fan on high, if you feel the unit is not working sufficently, pull the filter and check the evaporator coil for ice build up. Ice MAY indicate a low freon charge, time to have it checked by a HVAC pro. WDP

RE: electric awnings

Add a Room works just fine with the Travele-r. From Carefree Just took delivery of a 2009 320 RLDS with the Carefree power awning. It has the slant with no clearance problems. I am also concerned as the whole setup looks flimsy. Has anyone used this awning with an Add A Room? I emailed Carefree customer service and got conflicting answers- Pete, Good morning. Yes the Add A Room will work in the Travel'R awning, it just takes a little more finesse. The spacing between the motor drive and the slot is fairly narrow, this is where the finesse comes in. The room must be removed completely when you roll your awning in. You cannot leave the front panel attached as it is too heavy and causes too much bulk on the canopy. As for the wind, we do not test for this as these awnings are made for sun protection. Slight breezes should be okay, but any strong winds could cause damage to the arms. This being said, you also need to use caution with the Add A Room if you have the flat pitch model as the arms are made to collapse when the canopy fills with rain water. (C&P) Kim McEachern Carefree of Colorado Customer Service Two days later this one came. Good afternoon and thank you for your email. We don’t recommend you use a room with electric awnings as it can cause damage to the awning if the button was accidently pushed on the awning. Wind is not tested on the awnings as it is made for sun protection. (C&P) Customer Service Carefree of Colorado 2145 W. 6th Ave. Broomfield, CO 80020 Anyone out there in the real world use a Travel'r with an AAR? Any issues? Besides rolling it up with the room attached? The add a room works just fine. Carefree is just trying to hustle their new room design. I purchased new hardware and used the AAR from my trade in. Remove the non powered roller cover to aid clearance and slip the front panel in the unused slot on the roller. Roll it up a tad to snug up awning, tie down the roller with the usual ropes and ground stakes, you are done- save $700. I have been through torrential rains and moderate winds and didn't have an issue with pooling water or damage to the arms. The cat is out of the bag! Mine has a very steep drop (not the flat auto dump) and no auto retract. WDP

RE: Hunter Thermostat, must do

I did the Hunter replacement thermostat today and discovered another reason why the original did not regulate well. http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss8/WDP13/DSC_0067.jpg The hole for the wire is huge. The empty space contains either hot or cold air directly accessible to the thermostat. If you don't want to replace it, try stuffing the hole with fiberglass to keep the thermostat from feeling the heat. WDP

RE: RVdirect vs local on Jayco 26bh

Try putting in another on line price request with RV direct. I did this about 5 days apart and got a 2K difference for the exact same specs so there is some rubber in the markup even with RV direct. I bought local because of a trade and reduced sales tax and my dealer came darn close to the low quote on a Jayco 320 RLDS. WDP

RE: Soot on trailer above water heater exhaust

No need to take it in for this. 2 minutes and it's done. I have the same camper, same heater, open the access door and locate the burner mixing tube. There is an air shutter that slides back and forth to admit or restrict the air mixing with the gas. Loosen the screw, fire it up and open the slots to get a bright blue flame, tighten the screw- done. WDP

RE: Guess I'm in Trouble Now....

There is limited storage space on these RVs. It will only cost you 5 maybe 6 grand to fill er up. YUK-YUK WDP

RE: virus question.

Could have been a "zero day virus attack", a very recent released or a variant not known to anti-virus establishment. That is why your anti virus should auto update multiple times a day. WDP

RE: Battery Draining

The propane detector runs off the house battery and it is a current pig. Either install a battery disconnect switch (advised) or disconnect the propane detector. Battery should last a month or so with the rest of the parasitic drains of the stereo, TV and clocks. WDP

Easy Utility Hanger

Since my usual hang out is the beach, Long Neck Delaware, leaving hoses, cables and power cord on the ground causes a lot of sand the get tracked into the storage areas at breakdown. For about $8 and about a half hour of light mechanical effort I made a hanger to keep everything off the ground. http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss8/WDP13/Mess.jpg height=220 width=260 Start with a 48 inch Shepherds Hook for hanging plants available at most hardware stores. http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss8/WDP13/Hook.jpg height=220 width=320 Grind off the sharp points on the two legs that are inserted into the ground. Bend the hook for the plant as straight as possible. http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss8/WDP13/Bend.jpg height=220 width=320 This will give maximum length and height for the cables. Next cut off the hook for the plant and sharpen to a mild point (safety). This will be pounded into the ground. Next spin a nut, sized to fit the rod to make a hammer driving flat area to drive into the ground. http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss8/WDP13/Nutapply.jpg height=220 width=320 Grind off anything protruding above the nut to make a flat surface. Paint the nut and all the rest of the dings and you are set. Just pound the finished product into the ground, hang the utilities and be sand free. http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss8/WDP13/Nut.jpg height=220 width=320 http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss8/WDP13/Neat.jpg height=220 width=320 Works with all forms of campers. RE: Brakes..I know, I know..beaten to death but..

Depends what "sway control" is. 6 volts may be correct for that application. Check the manual and see what the manufacturer says. WDP

RE: Bearing Seals

My local NAPA parts store had what I needed in stock. $7.00 per seal and $9.00 per bearing / race set. SKF parts. Way too much for the seals, $1.50 at the dealer. WDP

RE: Slideout Owners!!!

They are mechanical user inserted locks to keep the slide from moving and provide a tight seal. Key here is slide size, my 25Z had a 13 inch slide and a lock bar. Current Jayco 320 BHDS has a larger and heavier slide that won't shift unless flipped on it's side. Use it if provided, I saw a similar Jay lite with the slide banging in and out on rough roads. WDP
