RE: Boondocking and Generator Economics

WOW, are you guys camping or RVing? Go camping asnd use the RV for what it is intended. They are self contained units that will provide everything you need (roughing it in style) unless you have to have trees and air conditioning. I do have Honda generators for an occasional micro wave use or to hit the battereis for a bit. But air all night? No, we camp not RV.

RE: Sidewinder hitch

I have one as well and so far it has done its job. The only thing, and they sure don't tell you this anywhere, is that the Sidewider WILL raise the front of your rig just because of the pivot point and how high you can put the turret and still have it swivel under the king pin frame. Make sure you have adjustment if possilbe. I am now in the process of lifting my 5th wheel to accomadate the extra height.

RE: Sidewinder noise

This squelling noise had me pi$$ed off to say the least when I first put mine on. It was obnoxiously loud. The instructions that came with the Sidewinder mentioned nothing about lube on anything. And torque the turret bolts to 80 ft.lbs. Mine has 4 on top. I went to the Reese website (who actually makes it I think). Read there installation instructions and found that a Silicone spray on the plate in between the turret and the arm and on the round washer and ALSO torque the turret bolts to 45 ft.lbs. When I followed those instructions it is noise free.

RE: Honda EU 2000I

I have 2 of these little gems. Although I do like them for the type of camping we do, one of them will not run my microwave. I need them both for that chore or the 15k AC unit.

RE: King Pin Stablizer

I have a tri-pod stabilizer laying in the back of my truck. Not a very good $100 investment. Maybe someone will take it so I don't have to worry about where it will lay until someone else wants to borrow it.

RE: Tire type and brand for 5er tire replacements...

One point. Be sure to check RATING ON WHEELS! No sense in getting Load Range E tires, and putting on Load Range D wheels. That would be a huge wheel overload, more than 20% as I recall.
Wheel rating sometimes stamped on rear of wheel, sometimes in valley under tire. Might be a weight OR a pressure rating.
We like our Maxxis.
Why couldn't you still use the "E" rated tire on the "D" rated wheel. Fill the "E" to max of the wheel. Don't you still get the benenfit of the heaier duty tire for the load you are carrying?

RE: Nice video of a 6.4 PSD SuperDuty having cab off repair

After watching the video and its fast pace I'll bet that guy could do an oil change in what 2.6 seconds. I would love to have one of the new fords but only with a lifetime warranty.

RE: Sidewinder

Oh man, sorry to hear that. What is different? Bolt pattern, width?
Yep it was the bolt pattern that didn't match. All of their information showed I needed the ST100. It won't fit. Now I am confused about which wedge to use. I bought the one they told me I needed but there is one bolted to the underside of the arm already.
The wedge that comes attached is the universal, can be flipped to meet several hitch heads.
What did tech support say?
The ST200 should hopefully be shipping soon.
Hey, do you have a picture of yours all hooked up and ready to roll?

RE: Sidewinder

I received my Sidewinder yesterday. Now I am excited. I lay everything out on my workbench and start reading the instructions. The first thing it says is to make sure the bolt holes are the same. I go out and check, nope they are different. Great now what. Apparently my Lippert 1116 pinbox is different than others somehow. So after dealing with the manufacturer we THINK I need an ST200 not an ST100 which is what all of the information says I need. Now I am waiting from a call from the folks I bought it from to see how to get it swapped with the correct one. Kinda frustration right now.

RE: Sidewinder

My VIN was on the pinbox and on an ID plate also, so it didn't matter for me. I had to remount my breakaway electrical box when I installed my Sidewinder since it was mounted to the old pin box. I drilled a couple of holes in the support arms and used heavy sheet metal screws to mount it. I got some pics somewhere, I just need to find them.
TXBlue, thanks for the response. You like your Sidewinder?

RE: Sidewinder

Rolling Rock let me ask you this. My Sidewinder should be at my house when I get home so I have not seen the instructions. Is there a place to mount the emergency pull pin to the new pin box? Also, my VIN tag is riveted to the existing pin box. Is there a spot to re-loate that as well? Or should I just put in on the fixed portion of the pin box?

Thanks for the replies. I will be ordering one real soon.
Seems I have been posting this a lot lately but you want to see install photos...

I have seen the pictures. Nice work. Let me ask you another question. Where we camp most of the time (at the lake) it is almost impossibe to get a straight shot to back in to hook up and it is unlevel to say the least. Is it difficult to hook up with the arm moving around? When I back in will it want to move if not exactly lined up? Might sound like stupid questions but I have not personally seen one in action.

Sidewinder

So I have searched until I am sick of reading. I have not seen the answer to the question I have concerning this setup. Will this setup adversely affect the stable towing of a 5er by moving the pivot point back 20"? Someone told that by moving the pivot point back there is a chance to increase the chance of sway similar to that of a bumper pull trailer. I am tired of dealing with a manual slider, especially since having to replace my back window, but do not want any unforseen issues either. Can someone help me satisfy me curiousity please.
