RE: Old water well

Interesting thread. I like Bruce Starkey's option #2. You'll get more water and cheaper operating costs overall. I checked, Red Devil does indeed make a 1/2 and 3/4 residential submersible pump.

RE: The summer that wasn't!!

I'm glad some folks had nice summer weather. Central Texas, on the other hand, had the hottest temps since 1925. 68 days >100 degrees, Lake travis is at only 45% of capacity and all boat launches are closed due to low lake level, and we are over 30 inches short in the rainfall department for the past 24 months. Good news is that it started raining (finally) two days ago. Maybe our luck has changed. And of course everone knows, every Central Texas drought eventually gets broken by a gosh-awful flood event. We're waiting.....:)

RE: Calling all wood workers

You might consider Penofin Brazillian Rosewood Oil finish. 99% UV resistant. I've used it for years on decks and other outdoor projects, including the harsh Texas Coast enviornment.

RE: Dual Pane Seals have Shrunken.

Hi Robatthelake -- Yes, the window can be repaired by replacing the double-pane insert. Not hard, but somewhat time consuming. We've had one of our window insert seals fail, allowed moisture between the pains. And another one was unsightly when the insert seal began to migrate towards the center of the pane -- never did loose its seal. You may have some difficulty getting soemone to build the double-pane inserts to your measurements, that was our biggest issue. After that, it's only a matter of removing the entire window unit, replacing the glass insert in a very tight rubber grommet, then re-assembling the window unit back into the rv. FYI, when we inquired at the dealer, they insisted the only fix was to replace the entire window at a cost of >$1,200. Good luck and feel free to PM if you have questions.

TEO -- It's a guy thing. Read the directions (carefully) only as a last resort. :S

RE: Rockport, TX

Like JackG said, daytimes are "warm" and humid even with this year's drier than normal conditions. However the offshore breezes cool things to a very comfortable level shortly after the sun starts to set, makes for very nice evenings!

RE: Lug nut torque?

According to my Alcoa wheels, 450-500 foot lbs.

RE: Rockport Texas

Try Waters Edge RV Park. We've stayed there many times. Located right on the water, private pier with some of the best fishing to be found. Probably one of the most cleanest and well-managed parks we've ever found.

RE: For your Austin, Tx RVers

If you are in south Austin, there is a small shop on FM 1626 / Manchaca Road, he does nothing but inspections -- diesel and gas. Very convenient and rarely any waiting. Go west on FM 1626 from Manchaca Road, just past the railroad tracks on the south side of the road. Best part is he doesn't try to sell you soemthing you don't want or need -- just state inspections.

RE: AIR HORNS ON ITASCA MOTORHOME

Indeed, I believe you answered your own question. Though I am not an expert by any means, I suspect your need mores volume and less pressure. Again, just a guess.

RE: An OMG moment: the Vet bill

Sophie (4 yr old Yorkie) jumped from DW's arms, fractured her back leg in three spots. That was Thanksgiving weekend 2007. After four surgeries and two specialty vets, we're looking at close to $8,500. Hey, the kids are all grown, and only one grandchild to spend it on. Sophie is trying to sleep on my shoulders, behind my neck, as I type while sitting my home office chair. She looked up to see what I wrote and we both agree she is worth it!

RE: Cabellas Overnight?

We regularly see all sorts of RV traffic overnight at the Cabellas in Buda. Well-lit parking lot, plenty of room, WalMart and other amenities close by.

RE: Hurricane Season What do you do if in FL, AL, MS, LA, or TX

In 2008 we had our MH parked at our place in Rockport. National Weather Service predicted a direct hit between Corpus Christi and Rockport. 48 hours before predicted landfall, we moved inland to Austin just in time to see the storm turn "hard right" and make a hit on Galveston. Go figure.

RE: Gulf Waters RV Park

DW and I stayed there on several occasions. In fact we almost purchased one of the lots, bought and built a house in Rockport instead. Gulf Waters is a very pleasant place. Clean, professionally managed. Pool, hot tub. Lots of landscaping and freshwater ponds, although not much shade as the trees are immature yet. Board walk takes you directly to the Gulf. Very convenient to Port A, and as I recall the bus comes into the park regularly. The downside is I thought they were a bit pricey, too rich for my blood.

RE: Coach advice...Tiffin or Fleetwood?

We looked at both. Our choice was Tiffin. If I were buying again, I'd choose Tiffin again.

RE: Thermo Pane Windows

Yes, I've done it. Saved a TON of $$$ over the cost of a replacement window. I took my time in separating the frame from the window glass segments, also was careful to put a bead of sealant on the leading edge and top edge of the frame when I reinstalled the unit.
