RE: The Shakedown...our successful first trip out.

We can never book campsites far in advance because of my husbands work schedule. I just obsessively check the Reserve America app for cancellations starting about 10 days out and I've never "not" gotten a campsite at a place we like nearby. Ifcajps: We LOVE that app!!! I honestly think it's one of the coolest apps out there, it's called "Nightsky" and it is amazing.

RE: The Shakedown...our successful first trip out.

We love Mt Madonna!! Glad your first trip went so well. We're nearby in Carmel and I feel so LUCKY I snagged a oceanfront site at Half Moon Bay St park for this weekend!! They never come up on the cancellations!! Some other great ones in our area and not far from you are Coyote Lake, New Brighton and Sunset State Beaches. If you want full hook ups and Redwood Trees Smithwoods RV is nice in Felton (Santa Cruz Mts.) and has a pool!!! P/S We like to sit out by the fire...and never undersatnd the GIANT TV in the camper, but my kids are always drooling at the TV's, so we broke down and bought a 20". :)

RE: Need Mattress measurements 2003 Star Craft 21rb

How much is it to buy the split replacement cover from Starcraft? I would buy just the cover and then find someone local to buy the foam inserts from. I wouldn't be happy moving a one piece mattress into the aisle everytime I was putting up the camper....the mattresses are tucked up nice on the ends when folded and if we are on the road sometimes we stop and cook lunch inside and moving around with a big mattress in the aisle wouldnt' be fun....

RE: Need Mattress measurements 2003 Star Craft 21rb

I'd also like to add that we put a 3" memory foam topper on our mattresses because of the "hardness" of them. this help with keeping warm, too. (and provides for lots of laughs when rolling it up at the end of a trip to store in a sleeping bag bag...

RE: Need Mattress measurements 2003 Star Craft 21rb

Yes, that is right. So what happens is, when you close up, you pull the wide part (2/3) of the mattress in and up (flat) and then close the door and the small part (the 1/3) will be inside there with the tenting over it. That way, you can use the inside of the camper whilet he mattresses are folded up holding back the tent part. We LOVE our 2003, we got it back in September and it was basically brand new. The man we bought it from on Craigslist was very meticulous and had added solar charging! Have FUN! I was going to post a picture, but I don't have one without a sheet on it, and I don't have one with what it looks like closed up. Sorry!!! If I get out to our storage soon, I can take pictures!

RE: Laguna Seca Camping

There is a city campground in "Veterans Memorial Park" in monterey, just up from downtown, it's really nice, and I'm not sure how big your rig is, but no rezzies, first come first served....depending on what day of hte week you arrive, you wouldn't have a problem. Monterey Fairgrounds has a campground on the fairground with some hookups (not sure about sewage). There's a park in Marina, which is on Highway 1, Called "Marina RV" I believe....and then there are a couple out in Carmel Valley..... (if there is no availability at Laguna Seca)

RE: Yosemite

My husband stays at Indian Flats every year, sometimes a couple times, because he fly fishes and it's right across teh street from the Merced river. It is the closest place to stay to Yosemite. It is very close to the road, and not the most scenic or wonderful campground (his words) but it has hookups and there is a pool you can use at the motel next door. He would recommend it as a "place to sleep" if you are just goign to be in the parks all day long.

RE: Black Water Tank Question

Thanks everyone for your advise and points of view. The reason we haven't used it since we bought it is because we've only been out a couple weekends and we've only been going out for a night or two and didn't see the bother! Babysteps! We're going to start using the "facilities" this weekend. Want me to report back my findings? hahaha

RE: Black Water Tank Question

RE: Black Water Tank Question

If people say not to dump it until its 3/4 full what do they do then if it's only 1/4 full after a couple of weekeends? Fill it up with the shower handle before dumping it? We're not scared to dump it, just confused on how to get it full (besides using it, haha) before dumping.

Black Water Tank Question

We've had our trailer for about 6 months, and have used the shower, and emptied the grey water tank, but we have yet to use the toilet. My question is: If you are going to say go on two or three weekend trips between now and July and then a big trip in July. Can you use the toilet and just let "whatever" sit in there until you camp the next time until it gets to the 3/4 full area? Is there a length of time between emptying you shouldn't go past? Gosh this seems like a silly qusetion, but is there any reason to not let it sit in there? Surely people don't fill up their black tank over a weekend or two.

RE: How hard is it to book campsite in Yosemite?

If you are on the website looking at Yosemite, and you are on the phone and cancel, and refresh the campsite is available right then....(and usually gone in 10 minutes or less). We cancelled for this weekend a month or so ago and it was gone in 7 minutes.

RE: Any way to try before you buy?

Does that big RV Dealer in Paso have Hybrids? Skyriver or something? Maybe you could go over there and tell the guy, "Listen, we aer seriously looking at getting a Hybrid, but we really want to just get the feel for one without the sales pitch" and maybe he'll leave you alone long enough to mess with the ends and really check it out?

RE: Super lightweight modifications to htt

I think personal trait? I was at TArget today and was going to replace the ceiling track shower curtain with a pole, rings and nicer shower curtain until I felt how much it all weighed, and then I was like "Nah, I'l stick with the ugly track one".

RE: Water Heater ?

Thanks everyone, I don't want to seem stupid, I was more worried about the water heater then power consumption. I believe it's propane and electric, so I believe it would still be using the propane. Thanks fory our answers! Look see if there is an electric switch behind the outdoor cover. Turn it on and leave propane off when you are plugged in. I would only turn on propane if you need faster recovery to take multiple showers. This is GREAT advise!! We're going out this weekend and I'll try this!

Water Heater ?

We have a hybrid, and my question is this. When we are camping at a campground that has hook ups, do we leave the hot water heater switch on all the time? Or can we? We've always just turned it on about 10 minutes before we want to use hot water, but I'm thnking maybe we should just be leaving it on?? Thanks!

RE: Any way to try before you buy?

Jules, I'm not sure where on the Central Coast you are, but we're in Carmel and our hybrid is stored in Monterey. I'd be happy to have you come and look at it and "set it up" with me and you can even sit in it all day if you want to. ;)
